Ji Xinhe ignored the clear anger in Lady Sun’s eyes, looking at her with a seemingly innocent gaze, just waiting for her to continue speaking.
Ji Xinhe wasn’t a fool. Although she did not know the purpose of Lady Sun’s visit, from the moment Lady Sun started questioning her family background, she knew Lady Sun would ridicule her for being of a lowborn peasant girl’s status.
She didn’t care about this bit of humiliation, what she cared about was what this woman would say next.
Madam Song, the third wife, clenched her hand tightly inside her sleeve, finally putting on a reluctant face: "Since you also know that you’re humble and cannot bring any benefits to your husband, you shouldn’t shamelessly hold onto this position."
At this phrase, Ji Xinhe finally understood, revealing a profound smile on the corner of her lips: "I am the legal wife whom my husband married in a legitimate ceremony, why should I feel ashamed?"
When Mu Houchu was the Prime Minister, people said she was not his match. That was understandable since there was a vast difference between a peasant girl and the Prime Minister’s status, but now that Mu Houchu is just a small businessman, are people really implying she has to settle for being with a bandit?
Madam Song’s face also turned cold, scoffing: "Well, since I came today, let’s not beat around the bush. You should know your limits considering your lowly identity. You can’t provide any assistance to your husband. But if the Song Family’s daughter were to marry Master Mu, he would have the support of the Song Family, ensuring maximum growth whether it’s his business or his future, something you cannot offer."
Ji Xinhe calmly sipped her tea from her teacup, completely unaffected by her words.
Madam Song then continued: "If you have even a shred of shame, or are not too selfish, you should step aside for the sake of your husband’s future. I’m sure you understand what I’m saying?"
Shulan’s eyes were about to pop out with shock. Her lady was the legitimate wife, and was legally married too! This was the first time she saw someone coveting somebody else’s husband and making threats to drive away his lawful wife!
However, Xinhe retained her calm demeanor, even raising a small smile: "So, Madam Song, whom do you think I am now occupying the place of?"
Seeing her smile, a mysterious chill ran down Madam Song’s spine, but she snorted coldly: "Let me be straight, my daughter Lan Lan is currently seeking a husband. Originally, her marrying into the Mu Family would be beneath our Song Family’s status. But since she likes him, I must reluctantly accept it. As for you..."
Madam Song sneered: "If you know what’s good for you, it’s best to leave a clear path for your husband. I’ll give you some silver so you can lead a comfortable life in your latter years. However, you must not keep the child in your stomach."
Ji Xinhe could hardly believe such shameless people existed in this world unless she heard it with her own ears.
This pompous act would make anyone think that she was the one whose legitimacy was questionable.
However, she had to admire Madam Song’s ruthless tactics. Those with strong self-esteem, but low social status, who were softer in nature, might even feel so humiliated they would consider suicide. She truly got a glimpse today of how battles could be fought without shedding a drop of blood.
Ji Xinhe gave a cold laugh: "Madam Song, you certainly know how to play your cards."
Madam Song’s face also hardened: "Don’t lose face when offered one. I came to you out of respect today, wanting you to know your limits. Otherwise, I could go straight to Master Mu, and ask him whether he wants the broad path of the Song Family, or wants to be dragged down to death by a little peasant girl like you. By then, you can only be driven out like a drowning dog!"
Ji Xinhe promptly splashed the tea from her teacup onto Madam Song’s face.
Lady Sun let out a shrill wail, jumping up and shouted at Ji Xinhe: "Insolent wretch! You dare to splash me with tea!"
Ji Xinhe curled her lip: "Looking at how Madam Song loves to fantasize, I couldn’t resist wanting to wake you up."
"You!" Lady Sun was shaking with fury. She pointed at Ji Xinhe and growled, "You ungrateful wretch! Do you know who the Song Family is? Do you know who you’ve offended today!"
Ji Xinhe arched an eyebrow: "Oh, is it the Song Family? I truly was confused for a moment."
Lady Sun, frustrated and furious, shouted, "Regrets now? It’s too late! I tell you, I will make sure you, you rotten girl...AH!"
Before Lady Sun could finish her sentence, Ji Xinhe directly threw a teacup lid at her, hitting her knee. Lady Sun screamed in pain as her knee bent, and she fell to the ground.
Ji Xinhe gave Shulan a glance: "What are you waiting for? Madam Song is making a scene, shouldn’t you quickly call a few people to throw her out?"
"Yes!" Shulan agreed immediately, hurriedly ordering a few strong women in, using thick sticks to forcefully escort her out.
Seeing this, Lady Sun turned so pale with fear, she hurriedly got up and ran away, all the while threatening Ji Xinhe: "Just you wait and see! Ah!"
Since Lady Sun paused, she was hit with a stick, scaring her so much that she ran off swiftly without looking back.
Watching as Lady Sun fled in haste, Shulan said indignantly: "In my opinion, we should have beaten her until she’s crippled and then thrown her out!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Xinhe’s face became serious: "So that’s why Song Ya Lan has so much hostility towards me."
"Bah! What sort of creature is that seductress, coveting someone else’s husband, and having the nerve to show attitude to the wife, outrageous!" Shulan huffed, hands on her hips.
Shulan might have a stubborn personality, but this was the first time she really lost her temper since she was so infuriated by Madam Song’s brazen behavior.
Looking at Shulan in this state, Xinhe found it somewhat amusing: "You need to relax. Do you think Lady Sun only planned to be so shameless? Today’s visit was just her first simple move against me. Unfortunately for her, I’m not easily tricked. I bet she has lots of schemes planned for me, people like her don’t stop until they accomplish their goal."
Shulan widened her eyes: "What should we do then?"
"For such troublesome individuals, we must strike them down decisively and not give them any opportunities to turn the tables. Otherwise, she will continue to create countless troubles for us," XinHe hummed lightly.
Shulan blinked; "Does the madam have a secret plan?"
Xiaoyu happened to walk in, "Madam, Miss Ah Lian is here."
Xinhe nodded: "Let her in."
Shulan hurriedly said: "Madam, what’s the plan? You haven’t told me yet."
Xinhe lightly flicked Shulan’s forehead with her finger: "No need to waste too much energy on such people. Better to use your brains elsewhere."
