Chapter 564: I’ll Behave Myself a Little Bit

After the drama at Qing Shui Temple, it was already night time. The streets were empty and only their slow-moving horse carriage traveled quietly along the blue stone slabs.

Considering Xin He was pregnant, the carriage naturally didn’t go very fast, and they were in no hurry.

Although Mu Houchu had calmed down, he still couldn’t guarantee that his mood wouldn’t change and become angry again. So, Xin He cuddled up to him as soon as she got on the carriage to distract him with chit-chat.

"I heard you found out about this last night?" Xin He blinked and asked.

"Yes." Mu Houchu tightened his arm around her waist, being cautious not to let the carriage’s bumps harm her.

"Then why didn’t you tell me?"

"Because you slept like a pig and couldn’t be woken up," Mu Houchu said calmly.

Xin He’s eyes widened in disbelief, gritting her teeth, "Mu Houchu!"

Mu Houchu curved the corners of his mouth, finding her adorable. He pinched her chin and bit softly on her lips, "What should I do with you? You’re always making me angry. How did I end up with such a wife?"

Xin He chuckled, wrapped her arms around his neck, and gave him a peck on the corner of his lips, "I’ll behave better and try not to make you angry anymore."

If she could be well-behaved, that would be a real miracle.

But Mu Houchu didn’t expose her, he just kissed her passionately on her lips before whispering, "I’m still mad. You better appease me tonight, understand?"

Xin He glared at him, knowing he was again using the situation to threaten her!

The carriage curtain was blown open, and Xinhe saw Ling Feng walking beside them outside, "Huh? He can walk already?"

Glancing at Ling Feng, Mu Houchu replied indifferently, "I don’t keep idlers around me. Should I let him stay in bed and freeload forever?"

Behind the carriage window, Ling Feng felt as if he could sense his master’s icy gaze. His back felt like it was being pierced by thorns, and the pain from his fifty-stroke punishment seemed to intensify. Ling Feng’s mind was filled with grief. He had only obeyed his master’s orders, and now he was punished and unentitled to sick leave.

Why did he have such bad luck?

He finally realized that while following the commands of his master’s wife was still serving his master, he could never hide anything from his master!

Enduring the burning pain in his buttocks, Ling Feng continued to walk while secretly sniffing back tears. He lamented, regretting having realized too late.

Xiaoyu and Shulan gave Ling Feng a sympathetic glance as they shivered internally, grateful that they were Xin He’s servants.

Because their true master was Ji Xinhe, Mu Houchu had let them off the hook for now. Although he was angry, he understood the concept of loyalty. These two maids had always been loyal to Xin He, and he had no right to demand they switch their loyalty to him.

He also didn’t want to restrict Ji Xinhe, forcibly converting her trusted aides into his own spies. That would be too oppressive for her.

Mu Houchu knew Ji Xinhe well, and understood her principles. She wouldn’t tolerate any constraints, and if he forcefully clipped her wings, she would fiercely rebel. He didn’t want that, and he didn’t think it was necessary. He preferred to see her carefree and independent, with her own sky to fly in.

The next day, just before noon, Ji Xinhe finally woke up.

By the time they returned home last night, it was midnight, and Mu Houchu had kept her up late. She was now relaxed and slept soundly, straight through noon.

Shulan and Xiaoyu had been considerate all morning, not disturbing her in hopes that she would rest more. They had never seen a heavily pregnant woman so preoccupied like her.

As soon as there was movement in Xin He’s room, Shulan and Xiaoyu hurriedly pushed open the door.

"Madam, are you awake?"

Xin He rubbed her eyes, "What time is it?"

"Almost noon. Madam, freshen up, and we can have lunch right away."

Xin He blushed slightly, "Oh."

"Madam, did you sleep well last night? It’s rare for you to have such a good sleep. Now that you’re further along in your pregnancy, you need to rest more, otherwise, it’ll be too tiring for you," Shulan said with a smile.

Xin He got up from the bed and sat in front of the mirror. "Is there any news from outside today?"

Shulan laughed, "How could there not be? It was quite a scene at Qing Shui Temple yesterday. In half a day, it seems like the whole Yu State knows about it. I don’t know what the Song family must be like right now. I heard they quickly sent someone to the Sun family in Lian’an Town to talk about the marriage with Sun Yaowen."

Xin He expected that. Considering how big of a scene Song Yalan made, she could either marry Sun Yaowen or have no choice but to commit suicide out of shame. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Xin He asked, "What about the Sun family’s reaction?"

Shulan snorted, "The Sun family? What other reaction could they have besides being overjoyed? It’s said that Madam Sun cried tears of joy, praising her grandson for his prowess. She immediately annulled the marriage proposal with Guo family’s daughter and was utterly shameless, turning this scandalous event into a glorious achievement."

Xin He laughed, "You know what kind of family the Sun family is."

Shulan laughed, "But Sun Yaowen, it seems he still can’t get out of bed. Wasn’t it just last night...hahaha... that you know, he’s said to be at death’s door, his mouth swollen beyond recognition. The Sun family must be mixed with happiness and worry. Xiao Chaihu was quite vicious, this kid has a promising future."

Xin He rolled her eyes and then asked, "Does Xiao Chaihu go to school?"

"Yes! He left with Young Master Xiaobei this morning. I saw that he seemed to be feeling normal. I guess he felt quite satisfied beating Sun Yaowen yesterday," Xiaoyu replied.

Xin He chuckled softly, "Looks like Lian’an Town is about to celebrate a big event soon. Have the Sun and Song families settled their marriage?"

"Not yet, but probably soon. In the next day or so, the Suns are in a hurry, afraid the Songs will back out. The Song family is also eager to throw their hot potato, Song Yalan, away. The engagement should happen quickly, as well as the wedding. The only problem is Sun Yaowen’s current condition. He probably won’t be able to get out of bed for three months," Shulan laughed maliciously.

Xin He seemed lost in thought, staring at her reflection in the mirror.
