Xin He said calmly, "Tell them that I am unwell and don’t want to see anyone. As for Song Ya Lan, I will barely let the matter of yesterday pass, but she’d better discipline her daughter-in-law, so she won’t continue to disgrace herself. Otherwise, I won’t be so patient next time."
As for Song Ya Lan, Ji Xinhe really had no intention of even bothering with her anymore. The woman no longer posed any threat to her, and she didn’t want to keep her in mind.
Even taking an extra glance felt like a waste of energy.
Xiaoyu agreed and turned to leave.
By now, the front door of Mu Mansion had been opened, and Madam Sun, indeed, was kneeling outside with Song Ya Lan.
Passers-by couldn’t help but stop and watch. In just one day, Mu Houchu’s identity as Prince Pingyang had stirred up the whole Yu State, and any event at that residence could cause quite an uproar.
Song Ya Lan’s face was a mix of pale and bluish, as if she was both embarrassed and angry, as she gritted her teeth while kneeling.
Madam Sun, on the other hand, wore an ingratiating expression. As soon as she saw Xiaoyu come out, she hurriedly said, "Ah, Xiaoyu, is Lady Mu... Ah, no, is the princess willing to see us now?"
Facing the obsequious Madam Sun, Xiaoyu maintained a poker face: "Our madam said she is unwell today and won’t see any guests. As for Madam Sun and your daughter-in-law, she is generous enough to let go of what happened yesterday. However, please do discipline your daughter-in-law. Otherwise, she won’t be so patient next time."
At Xiaoyu’s words, Madam Sun immediately replied, "Yes, yes! I will definitely discipline her well and make sure she won’t cause any more trouble! No, I’ll make sure she won’t embarrass herself anymore!"
Now, Madam Sun was full of regret. If she had known that Song Ya Lan would bring such disaster, she would rather have her son marry the girl from the Guo Family instead!
Just a few days after entering their home, Song Ya Lan had caused such a huge mess for the Sun Family, infuriating Madam Sun to no end.
While speaking, Madam Sun delivered a few quick hits to Song Ya Lan, scolding her, "Why don’t you thank the princess and Xiaoyu right now!"
Song Ya Lan’s heart was full of grievances. She could accept having to thank Ji Xinhe, but was Xiaoyu, a mere servant, worthy of her thanks too?
Xiaoyu, however, was too lazy to watch their antics and simply turned back inside, ordering the gatekeeper to close the gate.
Madam Sun watched as the door to Mu Mansion closed right before her eyes, her face flushing with anger. In front of everyone, she slapped Song Ya Lan hard and scolded, "You ignorant girl! Can’t you even thank people properly?"
"On what grounds?" Song Ya Lan felt wronged and angry, nearly gasping for breath.
"And you’re asking me on what grounds? What’s her status? And what’s yours? Don’t drag the Sun Family down with you when you offend someone!"
"What right does she have..." Song Ya Lan was full of jealousy. At first, she was already envious when she found out that Mu Houchu was just an ordinary businessman. But now she discovered that he was actually Prince Pingyang!
Why on earth was that woman so lucky?
"She’s the legitimate eldest daughter of Le Yuanhou, who do you think you are? And you still have the nerve to ask what right she has? Take a good look at yourself in the mirror!" Madam Sun poked her head hard and stormed off in anger.
Laughter broke out among the crowd who had gathered to watch the spectacle, and Song Ya Lan felt both humiliated and furious. Having lost all her dignity, she covered her face and wept as she walked away.
Finally, peace was restored to Mu Mansion.
"Madam, they have all left," Xiaoyu informed her."
Xin He yawned, "Good."
So they wouldn’t cause any more trouble here.
Feeling a little tired, Xin He rubbed her temples and said, "I’m sleepy again, I’ll take a nap."
"Madam, now that your body is heavy and your pregnancy is further along, you need to take even more care. Don’t worry about such trivial matters anymore. Just rest for now," Xiaoyu and Shulan advised as they supported her to the bed.
Xin He drifted off into a light sleep.
After an unknown amount of time, Shulan whispered softly to her, "Madam, madam."
"Hmm..." Xin He rubbed her eyes and slowly opened them, "What’s the matter?"
Shulan whispered in her ear, "Young Master Song is here."
Xin He instantly woke up, "You mean Song Xi is here?"
"Yes."
Xin He frowned; this man’s presence probably meant trouble.
"Help me get up."
"Yes."
After dressing quickly, Xin He went to the East Warm Chamber.
Since their mansion was indeed small, there was only one room available to receive guests – the East Warm Chamber.
Song Xi was already sitting there, waiting. His small frame still couldn’t reach the ground, and as he sat in the high taishi chair, his legs couldn’t help but swing.
Ji Xinhe looked at his serious demeanor and swinging short legs, inexplicably amused.
"Young Master Song, what brings you here today?" Xin He asked with a smile.
"I can’t find anyone from Mu... Prince Pingyang’s side, so I had to come here," Song Xi replied.
Xin He took her seat and asked, "Is it urgent?"
"You could say so. With the Great Prince in Yu State, haven’t you noticed anything unusual? Don’t tell me you really think he’s here to deal with the bandits," Song Xi asked, adding, "This time, the Great Prince must have a secret decree from the Emperor, and most likely it’s to get rid of Mu Houchu."
Song Xi grew agitated, calling Mu Houchu by name.
However, Ji Xinhe wasn’t overly concerned. "What I don’t know is how he plans to do it."
"Isn’t dealing with the bandits an opportunity? My father sent a message saying the Emperor wants them to use the bandits to kill Mu Houchu!" Song Xi blurted out immediately.
Xin He’s eyes narrowed slightly, growing colder.
No wonder Mu Houchu didn’t want to get involved in the Great Prince’s campaign against the bandits. He probably sensed something, which was why he deliberately avoided getting involved in that murky affair.
Looking back on it, the Great Prince’s visit to Yu State was well prepared.
"So, you have to warn Mu Houchu not to get involved in this extermination of the bandits at all. There must be countless traps in it," Song Xi said earnestly.
Seeing Song Xi’s serious expression, Xin He couldn’t help but wonder, "I’ve always been curious, why did the Song Family choose to stand by him so firmly?"
