Ji Xinhe raised his eyebrows, full of provocation: "Want to fight?"
Ji Xiulan stomped her foot angrily: "Vulgar!"
She quickly ran into the house. After all, she was still afraid of him.
Ji Dong frowned slightly: "Why don’t I build a fence in front of our house to separate it completely from theirs?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Ji Xinhe had already thought about this and immediately nodded: "I think it’s not bad to avoid seeing people jumping around in their house all the time. It’s annoying."
"Hmm."
By the time all the grapes were crushed and thrown into the big jars, it was already getting dark. Ji Xinhe poured in white sugar at a ratio of ten to three, stirred it evenly with a stick as thick as his arm, and then covered the ten big jars with wooden lids.
Because this was the first fermentation, the lids didn’t need to be sealed tightly. Fermenting grapes would release gas, and if the lids were too tight, they could easily blow off.
Finally, the first fermentation was finished. This cartload of wild grapes was a great project that was really exhausting. But looking at the ten full jars in the courtyard, like silver, her heart inexplicably filled with contentment.
After a hasty dinner, Ji Xinhe almost went straight to sleep. It had been a tiring day, and now she was extremely sleepy.
The night gradually deepened, and the whole village fell into silence and deep sleep.
Somewhere in the night wind, a few treetops swayed slightly, and several masked men in black quietly emerged from all directions. They landed quietly and quickly gathered together.
"Have you checked it out? Is it here?" A leader whispered to one of the men in black.
"It’s in that mansion at the east end of the village, there’s no mistake. He’s severely injured and can’t return to the capital, so he can only hide and recuperate in this small mountain village. It’s the perfect time for us to make a move!" The man in black said with certainty.
The leader’s eyes flashed coldly: "According to Prince Three’s command, we must capture him alive if possible. If we can’t, we must kill him on the spot!"
"Yes!" The men in black bowed their fists in response and then, with a light tap of their feet, disappeared into the night.
In a short while, the mansion towering in the darkness saw the men in black landing softly on the high walls. One of them slowly drew his sword from his waist. Under the moonlight, the unsheathed blade shimmered with a sharp edge.
With a single gesture from him, all the men in black swarmed forward.
There was a quick response from inside the courtyard house. The guards stationed within were timely in drawing their swords and clashing with the intruders.
However, the men in black who had broken in were well-prepared. The ones attacking in the front were only part of the ambush. Another small group had already quietly bypassed the frontal assault and entered Mu Houchu’s room directly from the roof.
But when they lifted the blanket, they saw a wave of hidden weapons flying out. The man in black retreated after being hit and saw that there was no one under the blanket. They realized they had been tricked and shouted: "We’ve been fooled! Retreat!"
But it was clearly too late, as the guards in the room broke in...
Outside, the night wind blew gently. Since the mansion was in a remote location with few neighbors around, the sounds of fighting were suppressed and didn’t wake the sleeping villagers.
However, Ji Xinhe, who was always alert, felt uneasy and frowned in her sleep, turning over in bed.
She seemed to be dreaming of the day she first arrived in this era. The man with the ghastly pale face still exuded a chilling murderous aura, his cold, arrogant gaze locked on her, and yet he had no choice but to submit to her. The scene changed, and it was the encounter with him in the town a few days ago, when he tried to kill her. He reached out to strangle her neck, as if a light twist would break it.
Ji Xinhe felt a wave of panic surge through her heart, and her heart started pounding. Just when his hand was about to touch her, her eyes flew open.
And then... she saw a tall figure standing in front of her bed. The night was too dark for her to see his face, but she could make out his outstretched hand...
Ji Xinhe’s eyes flashed, and she dodged his hand with a flip, then pounced at Mu Houchu like an angry cat, her moves fierce and vicious.
But Mu Houchu seemed to have already anticipated her moves. He was prepared from the moment she woke up and easily captured both her wrists with one hand, locking them behind her back.
Ji Xinhe struggled a bit but realized she couldn’t move. She gritted her teeth in anger: "What are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
With one hand locking both her wrists behind her back, Ji Xinhe turned to face him so she could stare at him. His arm naturally encircled her waist. If you didn’t look closely, you might think they were embracing.
Mu Houchu wasn’t fond of women being close to him. It wasn’t that he had no interest in women, just that there had been too many pursuing him. As a result, he developed a resistant mentality.
He had worked his way up to his current position step by step, and people’s first reaction upon seeing him was always to be amazed by his beauty. But the thing he hated most in life was people commenting on his good looks, and those women pursuing him were mostly doing so for this reason, or because of his tremendous power.
Years of habit had led him to keep women away from him, and even in matters of clothing, food, shelter, and transportation, he relied on Ling Feng and others to serve him. This time, however, "holding" a woman in his arms seemed to be a first for him, and the feeling seemed quite nice.
"I came to find you," Mu Houchu’s voice was somewhat low, and in the darkness, it seemed to be a bit more enchanting.
But Ji Xinhe was too angry to feel the unusual atmosphere. Being awakened by a nightmare in the middle of the night and then seeing the harbinger of the nightmare standing by her bedside—if she hadn’t been so bold, anyone else would have been scared to death, okay?!
"Of course I know you came to find me!" Ji Xinhe gritted her teeth, obviously he was standing by her bed, so who else would he be looking for?!
"Why are you asking so innocently? I thought our account had been settled," Mu Houchu raised his lips slightly, looking somewhat cold and sinister.
Ji Xinhe felt goosebumps all over her body. This man, who kept biting at her, was the nightmare that haunted her beautiful life! Whenever things got a little better, he would show up and make it worse again!
Ji Xinhe couldn’t hold back her anger anymore and roared: "Is it really necessary to be so relentless just because I slept with you once? I, an unmarried girl, don’t even care about it, so what do you want? If you’re really so furious, why don’t you just kill me and be done with it? Just strangle me to death!"
She had a temper too, okay?!
