Xin He gave her a light glare, "And you think this isn’t suffering? I’m so aggrieved right now!"
Shu Lan chuckled, "Yes, yes, Madam has been lying on the bed this whole month, just stretching out her hand to get dressed and opening her mouth to eat, so truly wronged. If I could be so wronged once in my lifetime, I’d laugh myself awake even in my dreams."
Xin He sternly replied, "Or you can marry off, have a child, and experience it for yourself."
Shulan, who was teased by Ji Xinhe all day long, didn’t blush or skip a beat, she replied, "Madam, please give it a rest. This servant doesn’t have such good fortune to get married and having to worry every day about serving my confinement. My husband even gets up in the middle of the night to prepare food for me. Alas, in this lifetime, it seems I’ll have to keep facing hardship."
Xinhe blushed at those words.
Xiaoyu laughed, "You should talk less. You’re always non-stop. Go and see if the young master is awake? Bring him out to sunbathe with the madam."
After giving Shu Lan a slight glare, Xin He said, "I’ll go see Ah Guai directly."
Ah Guai was indeed awake, still snuggled in the cradle, chirping happily, kicking his short little legs vigorously as if he was having a lot of fun.
Xin He picked up a rattle to amuse her with, and her chirping grew even louder as she tried to catch it with her chubby little hands.
"The young master is getting more and more energetic by the day, gets along with everyone, and doesn’t cry or make a fuss. I’ve never seen such a good child." the nanny said with a laugh.
Xin He smiled, "Have you fed him?"
"Just did, Madam, don’t worry."
Xin He had originally planned to breastfeed the child, but during her confinement period, it wasn’t possible, and Marquis Mu also hired a wet nurse, believing it would be too exhausting as the baby would need feeding even at night.
Xin He hence agreed with Marquis Mu. If she didn’t have to breastfeed, then she wouldn’t. After hearing about the pain of breastfeeding, given the pain she had already suffered from childbirth, she really started dreading it.
Xin He smiled and picked up her child, "Why is Ah Guai so happy today? Would you like Mama to take you outside to sunbathe?"
Ah Guai made some noises, and Xin He took him out to play.
"Where is my husband?" Xin He casually asked.
Xiaoyu replied, "Master left early in the morning."
As Xin He was playing with Ah Guai and the rattle, she asked, "By the way, the Great Prince went back to the capital half a month ago and there’s been no news since that, right?"
Their marriage alliance with Miss Song from the Song family was not yet settled, was it?
"The Great Prince, after being heavily injured in the bandit incident, probably needed to rest and recuperate, so it’s normal not to have received any news for a while. Besides, the Great Prince should have just arrived in the capital."
Xin He stroked Ah Guai’s little face, "I’m just worried that the matter from last time isn’t over yet."
Xiaoyu was taken aback, "Madam, what do you mean by that?"
"The Emperor, after all his careful planning, had his schemes easily undone by Marquis Mu, without causing even a scratch on him. Can the Emperor really just let it go?" Xin He gave a faint laugh, "I’m afraid something else will happen."
"Ah!"
Apparently, Xin He had raised her hand too high for Ah Guai to reach the rattle, making Ah Guai upset and causing him to cry out.
Xin He quickly dropped that topic and with a laugh pushed the rattle back into Ah guai’s hand, "That’s mama’s fault, almost ignored Ah Guai."
Now that Ah Guai had the rattle again, he held it contentedly in his arms.
After looking at Ah Guai, Xiaoyu laughed and said, "There’s no definite conclusion, Madam, no need to speculate. We’ve already overcome the hardest hurdle, what’s there left to fear?"
Xin He curled her lips into a smile, "True."
Watching Ah Guai in her arms now, she felt completely content. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
In a short while, Shu Lan came in and reported, "Madam, Manager Jin from Winding Pavilion is here."
"Please ask him in." Xin He continued to play with Ah Guai.
Upon entering, Manager Jin bowed immediately, "Greetings Madam, I have yet to congratulate you on your precious daughter!"
Xin He chuckled, "Manager Jin, how do you happen to be here?"
Making a face, Manager Jin replied, "Ah, it’s not that I had spare time today to visit suddenly. It’s that only today was I finally allowed to see you! I’ve come several times before, but I wasn’t even allowed to enter the door."
Xin He looked up in surprise at Xiaoyu, but Xiaoyu, with a flicker of embarrassment on her face, tried to remain calm as she said, "Master made the arrangement. When Madam was on confinement, no one was allowed to disturb her."
Xin He’s eyes widened, no wonder she felt so peaceful this month without any guests at the mansion!
Rubbing her forehead, Xin He asked, "So was there anything going on this month?"
Manager Jin said, trying to force a smile, "Madam, rest assured, there haven’t been any major issues. We can’t always rely on you for everything, after all. If we did, what would be the point of keeping me around?"
Xin He laughed, "You’re quite a talker."
"As I should be," Manager Jin laughed, "Over the last month, our Winding Pavilion has put on the Summer Fashion Show. Since Madam couldn’t come, I had to run it by myself. Fortunately, there were no major errors, otherwise I would have been too embarrassed to see you today."
"Hmm."
Quickly, Manager Jin handed over the account book, "This is the price list from our summer show for the new clothes and accessories. Please review it, Madam, and the account book with last month’s summary as well."
Xin He handed Ah Guai over to Xiaoyu, then took the account books, and after a quick look, laughed, "The auction prices at the summer show were quite good. The final skirt sold for a thousand taels? Who spent that much?"
"Well, that...actually, we were lucky with our Winding Pavilion, encountering two young misses in an intense bidding war, competing for the higher price, and in the end, it was pushed up to this high price."
Xin He raised an eyebrow, "Who was it?"
"The fifth young miss from the Sun family. Madam, you probably know her. It’s Miss Song. She is the one who was with the fifth young master, Sun Yaowen, at Qing Shui Temple...that one!" Everyone in Yu State knew about the incident back then, it was impossible for Ji Xinhe not to.
In Yu State now, almost everyone mentioning Sun Yaowen or Song Ya Lan, has to mention the "romance" that happened at Qing Shui Temple.
Xin He snorted in laughter, "So it’s her."
No wonder, only she could do something so brainless.
"So, she was the one who got the skirt in the end?"
"Yes."
Unable to hold back, Shu Lan said, "Does the Sun family allow her to overspend like that? Sun Yaowen didn’t inherit much of the family fortune."
Ji Xinhe gave a faint smile, "You really think the Sun family would be willing to spend money on her lavish tastes? It must be from her own dowry."
