Chapter 678 - 677: Let Them Recognize Her

Xiao Chaihu didn’t deny Ji Xinhe’s words, indicating that he thought the same way.

Xiao Chaihu said solemnly, "His Highness’ departure from Yu State this time was very secretive, so the court should not have received the news yet."

Speaking of Mu Houchu, Xin He’s heart rose rapidly, she pressed her lips together with a stern look on her face, "That’s good, we must suppress the news, the court must not get wind of it."

If the court knew that Mu Houchu had left Yu State, they would undoubtedly hunt him down with all their might.

Ji Xinhe didn’t dare to imagine the consequences.

"Princess, rest assured," Xiao Chaihu said, making a fist.

Xin He bit her lip, "Prepare a carriage for me."

Xiao Chaihu asked, "Is the princess planning to go to Winding Pavilion?"

These days, when Xin He went out, she mostly went to her estates, where there were many affairs to attend to. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Who knew Xin He said: "Go to the military camp."

The fact that Yu State secretly maintained an army was no secret to everyone. Despite the court’s lack of evidence, the Emperor was not a fool. Why did Mu Houchu dare to be so bold if not for his army of elite troops?

Especially now, in increasingly tense circumstances, Yu State’s troops were no longer as hidden as before, but were being trained in the most orthodox ways.

Currently, the military camp of Yu State was stationed in the western outskirts of the city.

Xiao Chaihu was slightly stunned. It didn’t seem appropriate for a woman to go to a place like a military camp.

"Why are you not moving?" Xin He glanced at him and headed straight out.

Xiao Chaihu responded immediately: "Yes."

No matter whether Ji Xinhe could go there or not, as long as she wanted to go, he would accompany her. And whoever dared to mess around would be killed without mercy!

A low-key and elegant horse carriage left the Royal Mansion in a slow pace, heading straight for the west suburbs. Nobody noticed or could guess, that in this unremarkable carriage, was the Princess Pingyang herself.

Since Song Yalin entered the mansion, it was the first time that Ji Xinhe had left. The court eagerly hoped that Song Yalin’s arrival would become a positive catalyst.

The court anticipated Mu Houchu’s resistance and also hoped that Ji Xinhe, out of pettiness, would bicker with Mu Houchu, thus driving a wedge into their relationship.

In short, ever since Song Yalin entered the mansion, the court had been eagerly awaiting any reaction, however slight, from the Pingyang Prince’s Mansion, whatever it might be, it could prove to be a great aid.

But Ji Xinhe wasn’t stupid, nor was Mu Houchu. So the Pingyang Prince’s Mansion had remained peaceful till now, with no disturbances whatsoever. It seemed as if Song Yalin becoming the side consort was a trivial matter that had no significance or ripple effect.

Ji Xinhe didn’t go out, in order to avoid suspicion.

The horse carriage went straight to the military camp in the west suburbs. From afar, one could see the vast military tents, quite a spectacle.

When they arrived at the entrance of the military camp, the guards blocked the carriage. Several soldiers shouted, "Who dares to intrude into the military camp!?"

Xiao Chaihu immediately displayed the token of the Pingyang Prince Mansion and said coldly, "The Princess Pingyang is here, who dares to oppose?!"

The countenance of the soldiers guarding changed immediately at the sight of the token in Xiao Chaihu’s hand. They quickly stepped aside and said respectfully, "We pay our respects to the princess!"

They immediately yelled at the people inside, "Open the gate!"

Without any further instructions from Xin He, Xiao Chaihu said no more and directly drove the carriage into the camp.

The soldiers guarding the entrance looked dumbfounded for a long while before finally responding, they muttered, "Did that person just say... that the person inside is the princess?"

"What would the princess be doing in a military camp?"

An officer slapped a soldier on the head, "Hurry up and report to General Zheng! The princess is here!"

"Yes, yes, I’ll go right away!" The soldier finally snapped back to reality and ran off quickly.

The appearance of Xin He’s carriage meandering through the military camp caught the eye of many soldiers. News of the princess’ arrival quickly spread throughout the camp, attracting numerous curious eyes.

But out of fear for the military discipline, even the strongest of curiosities didn’t dare to cross the line. They respectfully remained at their posts.

However, whoever happened to pass by Ji Xinhe’s carriage couldn’t help but take a second look.

Even whispers began, "I heard our princess is in the camp, what do you think she’s doing here?"

"Who knows? What can a woman do in a military camp? I heard that a new side consort entered the mansion recently, could it be that she came here because she was upset? Maybe it has something to do with that!"

"Why would the princess come to the military camp if she was upset? This situation must not be that simple, but I have heard that the princess is as beautiful as a fairy. I wonder if we will be blessed enough to catch a glimpse..."

Before he could finish speaking, he was slapped by someone, "Mind your manners! That’s the princess! If this gets to His Highness’s ears, even ten lives wouldn’t save you!"

At this, the man was frightened. His face turned pale and he shut up awkwardly, but in his heart, he didn’t think highly of Ji Xinhe.

After all, she was just a woman. Since ancient times, women were only permitted in military camps if they were camp followers!

What was a woman doing in a place like this? Truly no sense of propriety.

Of course, he didn’t dare to say this out loud, but could only disdainfully think about it. Among the ten thousand elite soldiers in the camp, perhaps he was not the only one with such a thought.

When General Zheng heard about Ji Xinhe’s visit, he was first taken aback. Then he quickly rushed over.

In front of Xin He’s carriage, he bowed and said, "I was not aware of the princess’s arrival, otherwise I would have arranged for a warmer welcome. If the princess has any orders, I am at the princess’s beck and call at the mansion. There was no need for the princess to come this far."

Xin He’s voice, clear yet indifferent, "No matter, certain things are better spoken of here in the camp instead."

General Zheng laughed, "The princess is too kind, I..."

Before he could finish his courteous words, Xin He had already lifted the curtain of the carriage and stepped off it, "This is not a place to discuss matters. Where is the meeting tent?"

This time, Xin He didn’t wear a veil hat or a veil. If Mu Houchu found out, he would definitely be angry. Ji Xinhe felt that if he could come back alive, if they could escape this crisis, he could be angry for the rest of his life and she wouldn’t mind. Worst case scenario, she would just coax him for the rest of her life.

Usually, Xin He was accustomed to wearing a veil or veil hat when going out, not out of compliance with the strict rules of this era for women, but because her breathtaking beauty made her easily recognisable, which made carrying out tasks inconvenient and being low-key nearly impossible.

But this time was different, she wanted these soldiers to recognise her, remember her, and follow her! A veil or veil hat was not essential, even if the camp was full of men.
