After returning to the mansion, Le Yuanhou felt uneasy, not knowing why Xin He had suddenly told him to be cautious of Lady Sun before she left.
Be wary of Lady Sun?
Lady Sun had been in the mansion for almost twenty years, only a year later than Lady Wu. After Lady Wu’s death, he had no interest in marrying another, but there was always a need for someone to maintain the backyard. Hence, he had chosen Sun – a woman of gentle quality.
Over the years, Sun had been his wife without any major aberrations, and the mansion’s backyard was peaceful and auspicious. Except for Li Junyao’s unique unruliness at the beginning, basically, no trouble came from the backyard.
But why did Xin He want him to be careful of her? Was it due to the minor friction between them that Xin He bore a grudge?
Was Xin He such a person? If it were Li Junyao, he would believe it a bit.
If he believed Xin He, wouldn’t he suspect Lady Sun? A woman who has shared bond and affection with him for twenty years? At this moment, Le Yuanhou genuinely didn’t know whom to trust.
On one side was his wife, and on the other side was his own daughter.
Thinking from dawn to dusk, he could only sigh in the end, deciding to respond accordingly. However, inevitably, he harbored a few more precautions toward Lady Sun.

Once the convoy left the city, Xin He pulled back the curtain of the carriage to see the imposing city gate growing further and further behind her. Thinking back to when she first arrived in the capital, she felt amazed at such glamorous and bustling place. Now that she was about to leave, she felt as if a weight had been lifted from her heart, much relaxed.
It’s not that she didn’t like bustling places, preferring the countryside, but she didn’t love this kind of superficial prosperity. Especially under such prosperity, the hidden intrigues tired and disgusted her.
Opulent, yet oppressing places, indeed, are hard to like.
"What are you thinking about?" Mu Houchu suddenly asked her.
Xin He came back to her senses and lightly shook her head, "Nothing, I just feel relieved to be leaving." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"You don’t like the capital?"
"Yes." Before Mu Houchu, she didn’t need to hide anything.
Xin He paused for a moment, then she looked up at Mu Houchu, "What about you?"
Mu Houchu smiled, "I grew up here, so I’m accustomed to everything. I can’t talk about liking or not liking."
Xin He then asked, "Mu Houchu, don’t you feel it’s a pity to leave such a prosperous and opulent place like the capital and follow me to the remote Yu State?"
"It is a pity, but it’s nothing compared to you." Mu Houchu lightly pinched her hand.
He had always been a guy of strong purpose. He knew what he wanted and what mattered more. At this moment, it was clear to him that Xin He was worth more than anything to him.
Xin He suddenly wrapped both her hands around his larger palm, locked her eyes on him, "If you feel it’s a pity, I can give you another capital."
Mu Houchu was taken aback, not expecting Xin He to suddenly say such words, "What?"
Xin He lifted her lips, smiled, "If I say, one day, Yu State will be as prosperous and wealthy as the capital, would you believe it?"
Mu Houchu suddenly laughed, "Since you dare to say it, I dare to believe it."
Xin He’s tiny hands firmly held his larger hand, smiling, "Good!"
He had given up wealth and power for her, she would return it back to him! He gave up everything just to protect her, providing her a lifetime of peace, why can’t she do something for him? She never liked being helpless, not to mention, this man is someone she sincerely wanted to protect.
——
By dusk, the carriage pulled into a small grove.
As Xin He was puzzled why they didn’t take the main road but this deserted route, the carriage suddenly stopped, and Mu Houchu led her off the carriage.
As soon as Xin He got off, she saw a grayish-green carriage waiting there. The coachman, who looked like a martial arts expert, jumped off the carriage nimbly and knelt down, saluting, "Master, Madam."
Mu Houchu nodded and led Xin He onto the nondescript grayish-green carriage. Meanwhile, the luxurious carriage, after a short pause, resumed its journey, leaving the grove.
Xin He quickly figured things out, and only after getting onto the carriage did she ask, "Are you afraid of assassins on the road?"
Mu Houchu’s complexion slightly chilled, "Now that I’ve left the capital, the chances of being targeted are of course high. It would be good to avoid any unnecessary problems."
Xin He silently nodded. It made sense. Mu Houchu had made various enemies; who knew how many people would seize this opportunity to strike at him during the journey? Not to mention, the Emperor himself might not be at ease and could possibly send assassins.
Surely, this was the safest option.
Not until half an hour after the carriage convoy had left did the grayish-green carriage slowly set off along another route.
No one knew whether it was because the secret guard secretly following Mu Houchu was too strong, solving many troubles along the way, or because the ruse of switching carriages had worked very well, but Xin He’s journey was peaceful.
As they were not in a hurry, they leisurely traveled toward Lanshan City in the carriage, enjoying the view along the way.
After more than half a month, they finally entered the city.
Looking at the familiar city gate and the "Lanshan City" sign hanging high above, Xin He’s mood brightened, and she happily said, "We’re about to get home soon. I left in such a hurry this time, without even informing Xiao Bei and big brother. They will probably be scared by our sudden return."
Mu Houchu laughed, "Let’s eat something first. There’s no rush."
Just as he was saying this, they got off the carriage and went straight into a restaurant.
As they entered, a waiter immediately led them to a private room on the second floor. A man was already sitting in the room, and as soon as he saw Mu Houchu, he quickly got up to pay his respects.
"Master."
"How is it?"
"As you expected, Master. The carriage convoy was attacked less than three days after leaving the capital. I’m not sure who the mastermind behind the scenes is, they are clever. The moment they noticed something amiss they quickly withdrew, leaving not a trace."
Mu Houchu’s expression turned cold, "There’s no need to investigate. There aren’t many possible suspects. Were there any casualties?"
The man bowed, "We were vigilant, therefore there were no incidents. Master, rest assured."
"Hmm. You can go now."
"Yes."
Xin He’s face also turned serious. Those people were indeed like savage beasts. They nearly annihilated them. She was thankful that Mu Houchu was so foresighted, otherwise, what chaos would’ve been caused?
