Chapter Forty-Five: Concern

Fu Changfeng also heard about the thieves who had also come to the alley where Xichun and the others lived. He didn't know exactly where Xichun's family lived, but he was relieved to hear that someone had been injured but was now out of danger.

When he went to the academy to study, he saw Xichun doing business. He ran up to him and said, "Are you all alright? I heard that thieves broke into your alley."

"It's alright, but my neighbor was injured and is recovering at home now. I don't know what happened to these thieves, they just disappeared. But you should still be careful when you go out, I'm worried they might come back one day."

"It's rare that you guys still care about me even when you're in trouble. Don't worry, I know some martial arts too. And according to my dad, those people aren't from this county. They seem to be itinerant criminals. They should have already run away and won't be coming back," Fu Changfeng continued with a smile.

"That's good. Now we can focus on our business. Thank you for saying I wanted to make some new dishes last time. But because of the thief incident, I haven't had the energy. I'll treat you to a meal in a couple of days after I've made them."

"Alright, then I'll thank you in advance, Miss Chen. I'll head to the academy now." He smiled and left.

Xi Chun wanted to make fried chicken, spicy strips, and a sweet and spicy version of the ancient-style black duck. If no one hadn't yet discovered potatoes, she would have liked to make French fries, which would have been a perfect match. As for drinks, Xi Chun chose orange juice, since she didn't know how to make cola.

With tofu, making spicy strips becomes much simpler, but it still takes a lot of effort. Xi Chun visited several shops to make the ancient version of black duck, which requires a lot of spices. However, spices were too expensive in ancient times. Her target customers were ordinary people, so she might not be able to make money selling this herself, so she simply didn't sell it.

During those days when she dared not go out, Xichun got through it by researching this. If it weren't for the small portion size and high price, Taozi, with his greedy nature, would definitely have been clamoring to eat it long ago.

Xi Chun called out to Fu Changfeng, who had come out, and handed him the food she had prepared, telling him to eat it while it was hot.

Fu Changfeng saw the contents inside, and the aroma emanating from them was very enticing. This must be the delicious food that Miss Chen had mentioned. He couldn't wait to get home and went straight into the yard. Zhu Nian followed behind him and also smelled the aroma.

"Young Master, what is this? It smells so good!" Zhu Nian looked at him expectantly.

"Wait a minute, let me try it first before deciding whether to give it to you." Actually, Xichun gave two portions, but seeing Zhunian's expression, he deliberately teased him.

"Mmm, it smells so good! This is so delicious, let me try it." Fu Changfeng tasted the fried chicken. This flavor was something he had never tasted before. The crispy skin was wrapped around tender chicken meat. He rarely experienced this kind of flavor.

"Young Master, what does it taste like?" Zhu Nian swallowed hard as he watched him eat with relish and asked with difficulty.

"Fragrant, just one word, fragrant. Is this what they mean by 'I'd rather live without bamboo than eat without meat'?"

"Young Master, you seem to have read it backwards. I remember you didn't say it like that before."

"Alright, I won't tease you anymore. This is your portion. Do you want some? If not, I'll share it with you," Fu Changfeng said with a grin as he took out another portion.

"Of course I'll eat it, young master, you're teasing me again." Zhu Nian took it without even looking at it, grabbing whatever was in his hand and eating it.

The two were enjoying their meal so much that they ignored the servant running over to call Fu Changfeng for dinner. It wasn't until the servant called again that Fu Changfeng finally managed to burp and say, "I've already eaten. Go tell Master and Madam that I won't be coming over."

"Yes, I will go and report back immediately."

"Young master, you should try this. It's even more fragrant. Is this duck meat? It tastes both sweet and spicy. I've already eaten one, and I want to eat a second one. It's just that there are a lot of bones. It would be better if it were all meat."

"Idiot, it's not tasty if it's all meat. The point of this is to enjoy the pleasure of gnawing on the bones." Fu Changfeng also saw its dark appearance. At first, he was disgusted, but after taking a bite, he exclaimed, "It's so delicious!"

Xi Chun was unaware of the disheveled state of the two of them while eating. Some time ago, the uncles and elders who came to the city to work had come over to help guard them a few times, so Xi Chun also asked Tao Zi to bring each of them a portion of food.

Taozi rushed home after delivering the food. Today, Sister Xichun made fried chicken, which is his favorite, and spicy strips too. Slurp, they taste even better.

"Taozi, you're back so soon! Here, it's just come out of the pan, perfect for eating." Xichun was frying chicken, knowing they all liked it, and had made quite a lot.

Seeing that Taozi had already started eating, she took her bowl to the An family next door. An Wuji was still recuperating at home, so they hadn't gone out to do business during this time. Hearing the knock on the door, An instinctively hugged all the children together.

“Aunt An, it’s me, Xichun.” They relaxed after Xichun spoke.

"Xichun, it's you. Why are you back so early today?" When Madam An heard it was her, she came over and opened the door.

"Business isn't doing too well yet. This is some snacks we made, so we're giving some to these kids to try." Xi Chun revealed the contents of the bowl, and the children looked at her with delight as they smelled the aroma.

"Xichun, you've really gone to too much trouble. Our family has been so grateful to you these past few days. You can keep all of this for yourselves. They're still young, they can't possibly eat so much." Madam An looked at the things she brought, and since it was meat, it was obviously expensive.

"It's alright, it's alright, it's not like we eat this every day." Xi Chun simply distributed the food to the children before heading back.

"Sister Xichun, this is for you. You haven't eaten yet." Taozi placed the food he had left for her in front of her when he saw her return.

"Taozi, what do you think of the taste?" Xichun asked, seeing him still staring at her expectantly.

"Delicious, delicious, really, I feel this is different from eating, it's just so delicious." Taozi chuckled.

"As soon as you walked out, he pounced on his food like a hungry wolf and ate it all in one go. Now we're not letting him eat anymore. Look at him, with that greedy look on his face. I don't know where he learned that from," Aunt Zhang took the opportunity to complain.

"Oh, I see. Taozi, do you think anyone would buy these spicy strips if they were sold?" Xichun asked this proper local.

"Yes, definitely, but if it's too expensive, I can't afford it. If you sell it for one coin a stick, Sister Xichun, I'll definitely buy one often to try."

"Didn't you say you were saving that money to get married?" Aunt He asked with a smile.

"Then I'll take one out every day, and save the rest to get married," Taozi said after hesitating for a moment.

"Hahaha." Everyone laughed.
