"Happy my ass!"
She blurted it out, then froze, realizing she'd said the wrong thing. Her tone instantly softened as she pleaded with the man on the other end of the phone, "Dad, I'm just so angry I can't sleep."
The Zhong family is no less powerful than the Li family. They have many rules and regulations, and swearing is something that Zhong Guan has repeatedly and explicitly forbidden.
Zhong Guan values upbringing and is a very traditional middle-aged man. Zhong Qingya feels that her father was born in the wrong era; he would have been more suited to living in ancient times than in modern times.
Of course, although she was annoyed by Zhong Guan's restrictions on her, she had to admit that Zhong Guan had provided her with resources and money that ordinary people could never access in their entire lives.
She was born a princess.
Zhong Qingya realized from a very young age that by pretending to be a good daughter, she could gain Zhong Guan's rewards: money, connections, and anything else he could afford.
This is an absolute steal!
Zhong Guan is rarely at home and often travels for work. Even when he's not traveling, he works at the company. So, pretending to be a good girl is a piece of cake for Zhong Qingya, since she only sees Zhong Guan a few times a year.
We meet occasionally, but the time is always very short; we don't even have time to have a meal together.
Tonight was the first time Zhong Qingya had been caught out.
Her heart pounded; every second she waited for Zhong Guan to speak was agonizing.
After a long pause, Zhong Guan finally spoke, "Did Li Jingchen bully you?"
Zhong Qingya breathed a sigh of relief, the weight on her heart lifted instantly, and she felt completely relaxed. She pouted, "He clearly promised to come with me to look at wedding photos, but he abandoned me and ran off after only sitting for a short while, with so many shop assistants watching."
"Did your behavior upset him?"
Zhong Qingya's heart skipped a beat.
She knew Zhong Guan well; even through the phone, she could deduce his mood and his unspoken meaning from his tone.
He was still bothered by the swear words she had accidentally said earlier.
"Dad, I was so angry that I lost my temper." She immediately admitted her mistake. "But I really didn't say anything bad. Don't you know what kind of person I've always been?"
Zhong Guan snorted, "Although the Li family is not as good as ours, they still value social standing. After you marry into the family, you must be a good wife and mother and take care of the household."
She'd heard those words so many times she was sick of them.
Zhong Qingya picked at her ear impatiently, but obediently replied, "I know."
After flattering me, she changed the subject, "But is Li Jingchen really willing to marry me? He was so impatient even when trying on wedding dresses... let alone preparing for pregnancy with me in the future."
Zhong Guan is very traditional and believes in the idea that more descendants mean more wealth. Upon hearing Zhong Qingya's words, he immediately frowned.
"Go to sleep peacefully. I'll make sure the Li family brat gives you an explanation tomorrow."
"Thank you, Dad," she said sweetly.
The two chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up. Zhong Qingya's eyes were cold, colder than the early morning wind.
Don't think she doesn't know who just called Li Jingchen.
But if she could force Li Jingchen to try on wedding dresses with her once, she could force him to do it a second time. Since Song Nuan insisted on interfering, she shouldn't blame her for completely breaking off relations.
Meanwhile, at the bar.
When Ouyang Zhoujing arrived, the bar had already been cleared out. The remaining twenty or so people were all familiar with Windsor or Ouyang Chengyi, as well as a few bar staff members.
The bar manager saw him from afar. Every time Ouyang Chengyi caused trouble, it was Ouyang Zhoujing who cleaned up the mess.
He went to greet them with a mournful face, as if he had seen a savior.
"Brother Zhou, you've finally arrived!"
His gaze swept over everyone present, lingering on Windsor's face for an almost imperceptible second. Ouyang Zhoujing asked the manager, "What happened?"
"Brother, it's like this..."
Ouyang Chengyi had just opened her mouth, but before she could say more than a few words, she received a warning glare from Ouyang Zhoujing: "I didn't ask you, so you stay put. You have no right to speak."
Ouyang Chengyi stomped his foot angrily, glared at Windsor, and turned to go elsewhere to smoke.
The manager observed cautiously, his mind racing with thoughts.
In the past, Ouyang Zhoujing would always protect Ouyang Chengyi. His reputation as a doting brother was well-known in the industry. He was low-key, but Ouyang Chengyi was high-profile and caused trouble everywhere.
Originally, Ouyang Zhoujing was a mysterious figure who rarely appeared in public. He made a name for himself over the years entirely thanks to his great-aunt, Ouyang Chengyi.
But despite Ouyang Chengyi's antics, no one in the industry has ever seen Ouyang Zhoujing truly angry or lose his temper.
For decades, he has been cleaning up Ouyang Chengyi's messes and giving him the cold shoulder.
Now……
The manager felt that he seemed genuinely angry, although he didn't show it on his face, the aura emanating from him was quite frightening.
He hesitated for a moment before speaking, "The incident started because Miss Cheng Yi bought out all the wine in the store and refused to sell it to this lady. After an argument, Miss Cheng Yi was slapped."
Windsor rolled her eyes. "You're pretty good at turning black into white, aren't you?"
Even if Windsor hadn't said anything, Ouyang Zhoujing knew that things were probably not as the manager described.
A polished version of the story can easily overturn the facts.
He looked at Windsor. "You hit someone?"
Windsor was not intimidated. She had seen too many smiling tigers in the Wen family, and she felt more at ease dealing with an open enemy like Ouyang Zhoujing.
She retorted sarcastically, "Did you wrongly accuse her?"
"Cheng Yi," he turned to look at his sister who was sitting alone on the sofa smoking, and beckoned, "Come here when your cigarette is out."
Ouyang Chengyi obediently did as she was told.
Walking up to Ouyang Zhoujing, she was clearly more confident. She glared at Windsor and, before anyone could react, raised her hand and slapped Windsor across the face.
A very clear sound.
The manager was bewildered, and so were Windsor's friends.
Ouyang Zhoujing gave her a reproachful look. Ouyang Chengyi stuck out her tongue guiltily and whispered, "You called me here so I could get revenge."
The two have developed a perfect working relationship.
Whenever Ouyang Chengyi was wronged, he would make her get her revenge on the spot.
Ouyang Zhoujing did indeed mean that, but before he could even speak, she took action. Wasn't this just giving Windsor another reason to retaliate against her?
"Ouyang Chengyi, don't act like a bully just because you've been bullied!"
Windsor's friends finally realized what was happening and started pointing at Ouyang Chengyi and cursing him, showing no fear of Ouyang Zhoujing.
"You dare to lay a hand on us? Do you think we're pushovers?"
"You want to fight, huh? Come on, I've never hit a woman in my life, you're the first one today!"
The man standing closest to Windsor was a burly, tall man, who also shouted the loudest and spoke out for Windsor's injustice.
Ouyang Zhoujing glared at him coldly, "Try touching her?"
In the heat of the moment, the man rolled up his sleeves, ready to strike, but Windsor stopped him, saying, "Don't be impulsive."
Ouyang Zhoujing said, "You admit to hitting Cheng Yi, so I'll let her hit back. That's reasonable, isn't it?"
Windsor sneered, "That's right."
Ouyang Zhoujing was somewhat surprised.
