Chapter 189: Sick Leave

When Cong Nian woke up, the sky was still dark and it was raining outside, and it didn't stop for a whole day and night.

The window was not closed tightly, and the wind was howling in through the gap.

Look at the weather, it should still be early, right?

I turned over in bed and glanced at the digital clock on the wall.

12:30.

“?!”

Cong Nian closed his eyes and then opened them again.

12:31.

He struggled to sit up, but fell back down because his whole body was limp, and lay on the bed with his eyes wide open.

It’s noon?!

Could it be a prank by someone who set the time forward to scare her?

I picked up the phone next to my pillow and took a look. It was exactly half past twelve, and today was Friday.

It’s over.

Cong Nian scratched his sleep-tangled hair.

The morning's classes are over, and she hasn't even gone to school yet!

I held my breath and sat up from the bed. My head was dizzy, my arms hung limply by the bed, and there was an inexplicable bitter taste in my mouth.

She pursed her lips and didn't care too much.

He took the folded school uniform from the bedside table and tucked it in his arms, then hopped on one foot to the bathroom while putting on his socks.

Didn’t the alarm go off?

Could it be that she slept too soundly?

It seems that Aunt Lin is at home today?

He Sui went out without calling her!

Now hurry up and wash up and eat, you should still be able to catch up with the afternoon class.

Squeezing out toothpaste to brush her teeth, Cong Nian looked at herself in the mirror.

His little face was a little red, and the corners of his eyes were drooping, making him look sick.

White toothpaste foam overflowed from the corners of her mouth. Cong Nian pouted and poked her cheek.

I wonder if I can get away with it this way?

“Cough cough cough…”

Choked by the toothpaste foam in his mouth, Cong Nian bent down and started coughing, holding his saliva.

How come she seems to have no memory of what happened last night?

When I closed my eyes and thought carefully, I only remembered that I felt dizzy and then collapsed on the desk due to exhaustion.

That’s right!

She is doing her excerpt homework!

After quickly brushing his teeth and washing his face, Cong Nian rushed to the desk.

Sure enough, the notebook was still lying on the desk, and the book used for excerpting was closed next to it, with a bookmark stuck in the middle.

It's just that some places are a little strange...

"This word...why does it look like it wasn't written by me?"

Stroking the paper, Cong Nian leaned closer to read.

Although the handwriting is very similar, she writes with more force, which usually leaves a little mark.

Could it be that she was lying on the table half asleep and half awake last night, so the words she wrote were lighter?

"Whatever, as long as I finish writing it."

He quickly put all the homework books into his schoolbag and looked up at the time on the wall.

12:40.

The first class in the afternoon was at 1:30, and if she remembered correctly, it should be English class.

On Friday, there are basically no new lessons in the classes, but they are used for in-class exams.

The English test paper requires writing an essay, and it is usually distributed fifteen minutes in advance.

As the English class representative, she was the one who helped distribute the papers.

Then she only has 35 minutes to get to school, so she should still be in time.

Cong Nian yawned and stretched, and suddenly the sound of bones rubbing against each other was heard.

I slept until noon and my bones were stiff.

Cong Nian walked down holding the handrail. The feeling of being top-heavy made her think that she was going to curl up into a ball and roll down.

"Huh? Nian Nian, you're awake."

Lin Shuangshuang was making soup in the kitchen when she heard the "dong dong dong" sound of footsteps coming up the stairs. She thought she was hallucinating.

I poked my head out from the kitchen and found that it was really her who woke up.

"Why don't you rest a little longer? Are you feeling better?"

Cong Nian blinked her hazy eyes.

Aunt Lin also knew that she was not feeling well last night?

"That brat said you had a fever early in the morning and kept asking me to make you some soup to nourish you."

"This black-bone chicken soup has been simmering for a whole morning. It should be tender in your mouth. Let's try it later and see how it tastes."

Lin Shuangshuang smiled and slowly stirred the soup pot with a spoon. Then she took off her scald-proof gloves and waved to the stunned Cong Nian.

"Don't just stand there, come here, Auntie."

Cong Nian walked over, still thinking about what she had just said.

He Sui said she had a fever?

How did he know?

Some fragments of memories flashed into her mind. She was lying on the bed, and He Sui was sitting at her desk, writing something.

She thought it was a dream!

"Yeah, the fever's gone."

Lin Shuangshuang first touched her forehead with the back of her hand, and then touched her own forehead.

The sudden close distance startled Cong Nian, who was trying hard to recall the details of last night.

Memories also broke off.

Lin Shuangshuang saw that she was carrying a schoolbag and pulled the strap of her schoolbag.

"Put your schoolbag down. I called your homeroom teacher, Teacher Chen, this morning to ask for leave. You should just rest at home today."

"But this afternoon there is..."

Just as I was about to nod, I remembered that I had an English class test later.

"Teacher Chen told me about the quiz. You don't have to worry about it."

"She persuaded the English teacher to have He Sui bring the test paper back for you as your weekend homework."

The light words shocked Cong Nian.

Convinced the English teacher?!

Teacher Chen is so awesome!

She couldn't even imagine that scene.

"Go sit on the sofa for a while, the soup will be ready soon."

Lin Shuangshuang pushed her out of the kitchen, and Cong Nian had no choice but to obey.

This was the first time she had taken a sick leave since she started school, and she always felt a little unreal.

Is she dreaming?

He raised his hand and pinched his thigh.

"hiss……"

It hurts! It seems I'm not dreaming.

This unreal feeling did not disappear until she sat down at the dining table half an hour later to drink soup and eat lunch. Instead, it reached its peak at half past one.

The class should have been taking the exam for a while by now, right?

After dinner, Cong Nian took some cold medicine again, sat on the sofa and turned on the TV.

She wasn't watching what was on TV at all. Instead, she leaned uncomfortably against the back of the sofa, glancing at the clock from time to time.

By three or four in the afternoon, perhaps because the medicine had taken effect, she felt exhausted.

I felt so sleepy that I fell asleep lying on the sofa.
