Chapter 17 Bus Incident

"...So soft." Qin Yu looked at Xia Lan's face, admiring its fair and supple appearance in the sunlight, and reached out to pinch her cheek.

"Are you being a pervert?" Xia Lan glared at Qin Yu, her cheeks flushing red.

"You're my wife, this doesn't count." Qin Yu pursed his lips, a hint of anticipation flashing in his eyes as he thought about Xia Lan soon becoming his wife.

"Not yet! Humph." Xia Lan snorted and turned her head away.

Qin Yu ruffled Xia Lan's hair, looking at the bus that had come into view. "The bus is here."

Since it was the inaugural bus, there weren't many people on board. Qin Yu let Xia Lan board first. The ticket seller glanced at the two of them and asked, "Where are you going?"

"Two people in the county town." Qin Yu took out two yuan and handed it to the ticket seller.

"Six cents per person, one yuan and twenty cents for two people." The ticket seller nodded, took out eight cents from a stack of change and handed it to Qin Yu along with two tickets.

Xia Lan sat by the window in the back row, and Qin Yu came over and sat next to her. There were only three people on the bus besides them.

One of the women was clutching a bag tightly in her hand, while the other two men each carried a carrying pole and baskets on the open ground next to the bus driver.

As the bus traveled, Xia Lan felt the bumpy ride of a dirt road from the 1970s. The numerous potholes on the road caused the bus to shake constantly, and Xia Lan felt her stomach churning.

"Are you feeling unwell? Do you want to lean against me and sleep for a while? A nap will make you feel better," Qin Yu said worriedly, looking at Xia Lan's pale face.

Xia Lan shook her head uncomfortably. She was in so much pain, how could she possibly fall asleep?

"Are you feeling unwell, lady? Why don't you open the window for some fresh air?" The ticket seller suggested, noticing Xia Lan's pale face.

Xia Lan looked at the yellow dust floating in the air outside the window and shook her head. "Thank you for your concern, I'll bear with it a little longer."

Qin Yu's eyes showed undisguised worry. Xia Lan leaned her head against Qin Yu's body, and decided to obediently follow Qin Yu's suggestion and get some sleep.

Xia Lan thought she would be too uncomfortable to sleep in this swaying environment, but she actually fell asleep without realizing it because of Qin Yu's scent.

Qin Yu felt Xia Lan's head getting heavier and heavier, so he adjusted his position so that Xia Lan could lean against him more comfortably to sleep.

"Comrade, is this your lover? You two have such a good relationship." The ticket seller couldn't help but laugh when she saw Qin Yu sitting awkwardly and Xia Lan comfortably leaning against him.

"Yes, we're about to get our marriage certificate." Qin Yu nodded, making no attempt to hide their relationship, as if he wanted the whole world to know they were going to get their marriage certificate.

The ticket seller was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said, "Congratulations! This lady is so lucky; you two look very well-matched."

"Thank you." Qin Yu smiled.

Seeing Xia Lan nestled in his arms, relying on him...

It feels really good to be relied upon by my wife.

When Xia Lan woke up again, she was awakened by an indescribable smell. Rubbing her eyes, she found herself leaning against Qin Yu's chest. Xia Lan blushed and quickly sat up.

"You're awake?" Sensing Xia Lan's movement, Qin Yu, who had been frozen for half an hour, secretly moved his numb hand.

"Are your hands numb? Let me massage them for you." Seeing Qin Yu's stiff movements, Xia Lan grabbed Qin Yu's arm and helped to improve blood circulation.

Qin Yu glanced at Xia Lan and felt his arm tremble slightly with the movement of her small hand, as if thousands of ants were crawling on his arm.

Xia Lan squeezed his hand, and a tingling sensation immediately came from the spot, making his hair tingle.

There's a feeling that's hard to describe...

This made Qin Yu's eyes darken.

"Alright." Qin Yu was tormented by this feeling and quickly withdrew his hand, not wanting her to press it down any further.

Xia Lan didn't insist. When she looked around, she found that the bus was already full, and even the aisle was crowded with people.

The indescribable stench reached my nose once again, and I couldn't help but search for the source of the stench.

It turned out that a man had taken off his shoes, and since the bus was a closed space, the smell of his feet permeated the entire bus, making Xia Lan feel like she was about to be poisoned.

Looking out the window at the yellow sand swirling in the sky, Xia Lan felt that being covered in mud was better than fainting from foot odor poisoning.

Xia Lan immediately opened the window and covered her mouth and nose with her clothes.

This way, you can breathe fresh air without getting sand in your mouth and nose.

Seeing that Qin Yu did not react, Xia Lan reached out her other hand, grabbed his clothes, and covered Qin Yu's mouth.

Qin Yu looked at Xia Lan in confusion, and Xia Lan's voice came from her hands. "This way, the yellow sand won't get into your mouth."

"I don't need it." Qin Yu chuckled; he was already used to it.

Under Xia Lan's gaze, Qin Yu said nothing more. A glint flashed in his eyes as he grabbed Xia Lan's hand and made her cover his mouth.

Xia Lan was stunned. Couldn't he cover his mouth himself? Why did he still need to use her hand to cover his mouth?

Suddenly, something kissed her palm. Xia Lan's eyes widened in disbelief that Qin Yu had actually kissed her palm.

Her cheeks flushed instantly.

How could he do this?

Qin Yu looked at Xia Lan, whose cheeks were flushed, and a playful glint flashed in his eyes. He then deliberately kissed her again.

Xia Lan immediately withdrew her hand, glared at Qin Yu, and then turned away, ignoring him.

Looking at the scenery outside the window, my heart was pounding...beating very fast.

Qin Yu noticed that Xia Lan had turned her face away, but secretly glanced at the man next door who was taking off his shoes.

As the vehicle tilted to the right after the right wheel went over a mud pit, the driver stomped hard on the man's instep, causing the man to scream in pain.

"Ah! Who! Who stepped on my foot?!" the man screamed, angrily demanding an explanation.

"What's all the noise about? The car went over a pothole, and everyone was losing their balance. What's the big deal if someone stepped on your foot?" the driver yelled. The man sat down dejectedly, not daring to argue with the driver.

When the vehicle tilted to the left again, Qin Yu stepped on the man's foot once more.

The man winced in pain and shoved the man standing next to his seat. "Who stepped on my foot again? Step forward!"

"We've all been trampled on, and you're the only one who's precious?" The man next to him said angrily after being pushed by the other man.

"You're barefoot, who else would I step on if not you! You deserve to be stepped on!" The man looked down and saw that he had taken off his shoes and was barefoot.

No wonder he kept smelling the stench; the man became even angrier.

"What did you say?" the barefoot man shouted angrily, grabbing his collar.

"What do you mean, 'you deserve it'? Go ahead and push me again if you dare!" the man, whose collar was being grabbed, threatened coldly.

The tension between the two men escalated until the driver spoke up.

"If you dare cause trouble in my car, get out of here!" The driver glanced at the barefoot man in the rearview mirror.
