"Thank you, teacher. Thank you, Xia Lan."
Several female classmates were extremely grateful, looking at Xia Lan as if she were their savior.
Zhang Qiu spoke slowly to several classmates.
"Go back and write me a self-criticism, is that alright?"
"No problem, no problem."
None of them dared to say no, and they quickly agreed.
"Alright. You can go back now!"
Zhang Qiu gestured that they could leave, and the group, as if granted a pardon, quickly left the office.
This place is terrifying.
They never want to come to the office again.
After the other students left, Zhang Qiu looked at Xia Lan and waved to her.
"Liu Xiaohong has been dismissed for this incident. Are you satisfied with this result?"
"I'm definitely satisfied, but wouldn't it be too much to fire someone just because of this?"
Xia Lan countered with a question.
She certainly thought it was a good thing. Liu Xiaohong had brought this upon herself and gotten fired, but in reality, the consequences were quite serious.
“I didn’t want to fire her either. I gave her many chances to tell the truth. If she had just admitted her mistakes, things wouldn’t have gotten this serious.”
Zhang Qiu also felt sorry, but she had given her more than one chance, but Liu Xiaohong insisted on squandering all of them.
She even invited the principal, who personally asked her to admit her mistakes, but she remained incorrigible.
Zhang Qiu was somewhat helpless about this outcome.
"If that's the case, then she can't blame the school."
Xia Lan nodded; she understood what Zhang Qiu meant.
"Our school rules will never tolerate students who repeatedly fail to correct their behavior and have egregious conduct."
Teachers in Beijing have all experienced those dark times and value their reputation highly. Liu Xiaohong has essentially stepped on the wounds of the school.
"Liu Xiaohong's expulsion from the school may have some impact on you, but I will ask the principal to gather all the students tomorrow and give you justice in public, clearing your name."
Zhang Qiu assured Xia Lan.
"I have faith in the school."
Xia Lan nodded.
"Then you should go back and eat first. If you go any later, there might not be any food left."
Zhang Qiu expressed her concern to Xia Lan.
Xia Lan gave Zhang Qiu a deep look and voiced the question that had been on her mind.
"Teacher Zhang Qiu, do we know each other?"
From the first day they met, Zhang Qiu seemed to be exceptionally kind to her, and his attitude towards her was clearly different from that of the other students, which left Xia Lan somewhat puzzled.
She didn't remember knowing Zhang Qiu or ever seeing her.
"Do you know Du Wenqing?" Zhang Qiu asked with a smile.
"Do you know Old Du? How is he? Is he alright?"
Xia Lan was stunned. She didn't expect Zhang Qiu to know Old Du, but that didn't make sense either. How did Old Du know that she would be admitted to Beijing University?
“My grandfather was fine. He was sent to the countryside after being reported by his students. Several of his students immediately cut off all ties with him. My father tried to save him, but it was too late. He had already been taken away. We have been searching for him for many years, but we have never found him.”
"Now that Grandpa has returned, my mother has finally met him, and it was through him that we learned about you and your husband."
"If it weren't for you saving Grandpa, we would be separated by death now."
Zhang Qiu gave Xia Lan a grateful look.
"So the moment I saw your name and information, I guessed that you might be the Xia Lan that my grandfather was talking about."
When Zhang Qiu saw Xia Lan from Xiahe Village, she thought of the Xia Lan and Qin Yu that her grandfather had mentioned.
Grandpa had also said that Xia Lan was an admirable woman. Zhang Qiu didn't understand this until she saw the first place score and name on the report card.
Only then did I understand what my grandfather meant.
This is the first year of enrollment, and all scores are not made public. No one knows that Xia Lan is the top scorer.
But that doesn't mean these teachers didn't know.
Students who excel academically naturally win the favor of their teachers.
"It's been a long time since I've seen Mr. Du. I didn't know you were his granddaughter, Ms. Zhang."
Xia Lan was also a little surprised, not expecting the world to be so small, that she could meet Old Master Du's granddaughter.
“I originally wanted to invite you to visit your grandfather, but he told me not to bother you, but he did ask me to keep an eye on you more.”
Zhang Qiu smiled.
Xia Lan understood; no wonder Zhang Qiu had taken such good care of her from the very first meeting.
It turns out it was because of Mr. Du.
"I will definitely visit Elder Du when I have time."
"That's wonderful! Grandpa talks about you all the time."
“Since he came back, the people he talks about the most every day are you guys.”
Even her granddaughter didn't receive any attention from Old Master Du.
Zhang Qiu looked at Xia Lan and said happily.
Xia Lan smiled and agreed, saying she would definitely visit Old Du when she had time.
When Xia Lan left the office with her books, Liu Xiaohong was no longer at the door. Xia Lan took the books to the cafeteria, looked around, but didn't see Zhao Pandi and Su Dan. She wondered where they had gone.
As Xia Lan walked out of the cafeteria, a passing student saw her and quickly called out to her.
"Xia Lan, what are you still doing here? Liu Xiaohong is making a scene in your dorm, threatening to hang herself! You should go back and check on her..."
"Thank you." Xia Lan nodded, then quickened her pace and ran towards the dormitory.
"I don't want to live anymore! Let me die here, let me go!"
Before I even got to the dormitory, I heard Liu Xiaohong's hysterical screams.
