Chapter 22 A Light Kiss

Minister Yang's eyes lit up upon hearing this. "That's a good idea, but where are we going to get so many defective products? Every time defective products appear, we just let them sell them cheaply. We don't have many defective products right now."

"The goods in department stores all come from major factories, right?" Xia Lan reminded her. "If the store doesn't have them, the factories must have plenty, right?"

"How could I not have thought of that!" Minister Yang exclaimed excitedly, slamming his hand on the table and standing up, his gaze towards Xia Lan burning with fervor.

"Miss, I don't know your name yet?" Minister Yang had already decided that he must recruit Xia Lan. Such talent was truly a pleasant surprise.

"Xia Lan," Xia Lan replied with a smile.

"Comrade Xia Lan, when would be a convenient time for you to come to work? How about I entrust this matter to you?" Minister Yang had an idea and wanted to test Xia Lan.

“It’s possible…” Xia Lan looked at Qin Yu, asking for his opinion. Qin Yu nodded with great pleasure in his eyes.

"You can speak frankly about any difficulties you may be facing." Minister Yang understood Xia Lan's meaning.

"I just got my marriage certificate today, and we don't even have a place to stay in the county town..." Xia Lan said, distressed. "I don't know where we can rent a place right now..."

"That's easy. There's an empty room right behind our warehouse. You can stay there temporarily, and move out once you find a place to live," Minister Yang said with a smile, resolving Xia Lan's problem in just a few words.

“We are a state-owned store. You’re a new employee, a first-level worker. Your probationary salary is thirty yuan, and after three months it will be thirty-four yuan. Is that alright?” Minister Yang explained.

Xia Lan nodded, showing no reaction even when she heard about the thirty yuan.

Minister Yang was secretly surprised by his calm demeanor.

If Xia Lan knew what Minister Yang was saying, she would probably laugh.

After all, she had experienced the era in her previous life when she earned several thousand to tens of thousands of yuan a month, so this thirty...

In her mind, it was probably just the cost of two cups of milk tea.

"Now I'll take you to your room." Minister Yang took out a set of keys from the drawer and led Xia Lan and Qin Yu to the small house next to the store's warehouse, opening the door with the keys.

It seemed like no one had lived there for a long time; the small house was full of dust. However, it had a small yard and was fully furnished. With a little cleaning and some new supplies, it would be perfectly habitable.

Xia Lan looked at Qin Yu, who was looking around. "Just tidy it up a bit."

"Thank you, leader," Xia Lan said with a smile to Minister Yang.

"Here are the keys. Keep them safe. There are only two." Minister Yang acted decisively, handing the keys directly to Xia Lan.

"I'll give you another day. You can come to report the day after tomorrow." Remembering that Xia Lan and Qin Yu had just gotten married, Minister Yang thoughtfully gave her an extra day.

"Thank you so much!" Xia Lan said happily.

"Alright, you guys pack up! I'll go call the factory and ask for the defective parts." Minister Yang smiled, nodded, and turned to leave.

Xia Lan and Qin Yu watched his departing figure.

Minister Yang is definitely a man of action; he is decisive and doesn't procrastinate.

"Wife, you're really something... You've already gotten the job in the short time it took to buy a dress." Qin Yu pinned Xia Lan against the door, looking at her with a half-smile in his deep eyes.

"Hehe, your wife is amazing, isn't she!" Xia Lan was actually quite surprised. "Although I originally just wanted to get a discount, to get him to sell me that dress cheaper..."

"Didn't he say he was going to give it to you?" Qin Yu asked.

"Do you know what 'food offered with contempt' means? It's a way for them to appease you, to make you feel inferior if you accept their gifts," Xia Lan explained earnestly to Qin Yu.

"Besides, it's not like we can't afford it, why should we listen to them? This whole thing is just that Hu Meili looking down on people," Xia Lan said angrily, sniffing.

"If she doesn't bother me, I won't bother with her!"

Qin Yu curled his little nose in a funny gesture. "You're really going to scare the villagers right now."

“They always think we’re not living a good life, so we’ll live a good life for them to see! They can’t stand seeing others do well! What’s wrong with them!” Xia Lan got even angrier when she talked about this. Those women in the village are always being sarcastic and coveting other people’s things.

“My wife is so capable, she’s become a sales clerk in the county! I’m not good enough for you…” Qin Yu said softly. Xia Lan wrapped her arms around Qin Yu’s neck and pressed him down, glaring at him.

"I, Xia Lan, have never regretted my decision to marry you! I won't allow you to say such things either. As long as you have hands and feet, can earn money to support the family, pamper me, protect me, and treat me well, then I will stay with you for the rest of my life!" Xia Lan said very seriously.

What she disliked most was hearing words like "not good enough." They weren't chickens or ducks, so what was this talk of being good enough or not?

She had thought about it for so long, and she was truly determined to marry him.

She had nothing but her life back then, but he didn't look down on her. He didn't have much money himself, yet he took her to the clinic every day! He managed to save her life.

Qin Yu felt his heart churning. He lowered his eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing, his voice growing increasingly hoarse. "What should I do, I really want to kiss you right now..."

Xia Lan smelled his clean and refreshing scent and realized that she had just wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed down on him. She was now completely in his arms, and her cheeks instantly flushed.

As Xia Lan watched Qin Yu slowly lean closer to her, her cheeks grew hotter and hotter. He gazed into her eyes so close that Xia Lan could even see her own flushed face reflected in his pupils. Her heart pounded wildly.

Xia Lan bit her lip, unable to take the initiative or refuse, so she simply closed her eyes.

This was undoubtedly an invitation for Qin Yu.

Reason crumbled instantly.

The sound of his breath grew increasingly hot in her ear.

Suddenly, something landed on her eyelids, then on her nose, her cheek, her ear… and finally gently stopped on her lips, a tentative kiss like a dragonfly skimming the water.

Xia Lan could only hear their heartbeats dancing together, and her eyes trembled slightly.

His lips... were soft.

Time seemed to stand still for a moment. The next second, a scalding breath rushed towards her, forcefully entering her lips and entwining them in a dance.

Despite having no experience, Qin Yu continued to grow through practice; it seems that men are born with an exceptional ability to understand such things.

Qin Yu reluctantly released Xia Lan only when she was unable to breathe properly.

Qin Yu's deep gaze fell on her swollen, red lips, his hand idly caressing them. "Let me kiss you one more time, okay?"
