Chapter 261 The Abandoned Little Girl in the Hospital

"Who else would go besides me?"

Xia Lan looked at Li Wei and asked curiously.

"I also have classmates Xu Yu and Wang Xiaohong."

Li Wei explained.

They are basically the top students in the class.

"Okay, I understand."

Xia Lan nodded, indicating that she understood.

After school, Xia Lan took an enamel box to the cafeteria to get her food. When she arrived at the hospital, she saw Qin Yu staring blankly at the table. In front of him were two lunchboxes, and the dishes inside looked delicious and appetizing.

However, Qin Yu couldn't bring himself to eat for a long time.

"Brother Yu."

Xia Lan walked to Qin Yu's side, and Qin Yu finally came to his senses, looked up at Xia Lan, and looked at her with a pleading look in his eyes.

What happened?

The dishes in front of her looked much better than the food she got from the cafeteria; it was as if someone had prepared them carefully.

"I...she...she brought me food."

Qin Yu had just agreed to try to accept Qin Jun and Xiao Yuqin today, and Xiao Yuqin excitedly went straight to the kitchen as soon as she got home.

When it was time to eat, an enamel box containing food appeared in Qin Yu's hospital room.

Seeing Qin Yu's somewhat awkward and helpless expression, Xia Lan smiled, stepped forward, picked up a bite of food with Qin Yu's chopsticks, and tasted it.

bite!

Qin Yu saw Xia Lan's eyes light up instantly, and he knew that the dish was very much to her liking.

"Delicious! Brother Yu, it's just as good as your cooking!"

Xia Lan affirmed with a sigh, still savoring the memory.

"She made one for you too."

Qin Yu pointed to the new enamel box next to him; Xiao Yuqin had also specially prepared one for Xia Lan.

Xia Lan glanced at the enamel case in her hand, then at the other enamel case, and decisively put hers aside.

"Did they come to see you today?"

Xia Lan opened her portion and saw that it contained stir-fried green beans, her favorite eggplant, scrambled eggs, and braised pork.

The box was completely stuffed full.

Looking at Qin Yu's portion, it consisted of stir-fried bean sprouts, stir-fried green peppers with shredded pork, scrambled eggs, and a bowl of pork bone soup on the side.

The box is filled with care, making it look so tempting.

"I said I was willing to try to accept them and get to know them slowly."

Qin Yu picked up a piece and put it in his mouth. The delicious taste that exploded on his taste buds made Qin Yu pause for a moment.

This seems to explain why he is so talented in cooking!

It must have been inherited from his mother, Ms. Xiao Yuqin.

Xia Lan ate her meal with relish, her eyes narrowing in bliss.

"How do you like it?"

Qin Yu watched Xia Lan eat happily and smiled as he wiped the millet grains from the corners of her mouth.

"Of course I like it! Brother Yu, don't you like it?"

Xia Lan looked at Qin Yu, who was eating the food in the box, feeling a mix of emotions.

"like."

In the end, he couldn't escape it.

"That's good! They want to make it up to you, so just accept it if you're willing! Don't feel too much pressure, they just want to be good to you."

Xia Lan kissed Qin Yu's forehead, then took the enamel case to wash it.

Hearing Xia Lan's words, Qin Yu recalled the anxious look on Xiao Yuqin's face when she brought it over, as if she was afraid he wouldn't like it.

Qin Yu, who was initially reluctant to accept it, softened and accepted it because of Xiao Yuqin's cautious manner.

Before Xia Lan arrived, Xiao Yuqin had specially prepared a meal for Qin Yu, but fearing that his presence would make him uncomfortable, she left first.

This is why, when Xia Lan came in, she saw Qin Yu looking at the dishes, unsure of where to start eating.

Xia Lan brought back the food she had brought from the cafeteria, thinking it would be a waste to throw it away.

Just as she was wondering what to do, a trembling little hand suddenly reached out and carefully tugged at Xia Lan's clothes.

"Auntie..."

A dirty little girl stood beside Xia Lan, her eyes filled with longing as she looked at the food in Xia Lan's hands, which she was struggling to decide what to do with.

Xia Lan was stunned. How could there be such a small child in the hospital?

"Little friend, why are you here all alone? Where are your family?"

Xia Lan squatted down and looked at the little girl, asking her a question.

“You don’t need to ask! Young comrade, this little girl was abandoned at the hospital. Her father probably didn’t want her because she was a girl, so he abandoned her at the hospital.”

The woman washing dishes nearby answered Xia Lan's question, pointing to the little girl.

"How did she survive?"

Xia Lan asked in astonishment, "How is she supposed to survive with such a small child?"

"This girl survived until now by relying on the meals that people gave her in the hospital."

The woman pointed to a bowl next to the trash can. Xia Lan wouldn't have seen it if she hadn't pointed it out; there was actually another bowl there.

Xia Lan watched as the little girl slowly walked to her bowl, picked it up, and walked to Xia Lan, looking at her expectantly.

It seemed they wanted Xia Lan to pour the food into her small bowl.

"You haven't eaten any of the food you're holding, have you? Isn't it a waste to throw it away? Keep it, heat it up when you get home, and you can have another meal tomorrow!"

The older woman standing nearby noticed that Xia Lan's enamel box was full of food, which didn't look like it had been eaten, but rather like it hadn't been eaten yet.

It's such a waste to throw away such good food.

Upon hearing the woman's words, the little girl's eyes dimmed instantly, and she lowered her head sadly, gradually putting down the small bowl she had been holding.

"Auntie, how old is she?"

Xia Lan reached out and grabbed the little girl's wrist, then looked at the woman and asked.

"I don't know either, it's been at least a year, hasn't it?"

The woman thought for a moment.

"She wasn't there when my mother-in-law was hospitalized for the first time, but she was there when she was hospitalized for the second time!"

“It’s been at least a year. When she was left in the hospital corridor, she could only crawl!”

Hearing what the aunt said, Xia Lan looked at the poor little girl and gently squatted down.

"I'll take you to wash your hands and face, and then we'll eat, okay?"

Xia Lan looked into her dim eyes and asked softly.

Upon hearing that there was food to eat, the little girl immediately and carefully grasped Xia Lan's hand, obediently nodding.

The aunt watched as Xia Lan, without minding the dirt, carried her to the sink and gently washed her hands and face.

After washing away the grime from her face, Xia Lan looked at the childish yet sallow face, a result of long-term malnutrition caused by irregular eating habits.

Looking at her facial features alone, the little girl has big eyes, full of anticipation for food.

The little girl, who often relied on the help of kind-hearted people, was completely unsuspecting.

Xia Lan led her to Qin Yu's ward. Qin Yu was taken aback when he saw Xia Lan go out to wash the dishes and come back with a little girl.

However, he did not stop her. Instead, he silently watched as Xia Lan found a small chair for her and helped her sit down. She then poured the food into her small bowl.

Before Xia Lan could finish, the little girl eagerly reached out to grab it.

Xia Lan felt a pang of pity seeing her like this, but she still patted her hand and stopped her with her eyes.

"It's not finished yet! We can't steal it!"
