Qin Jun pursed his lips, unsure how to describe Du Wenqing's condition.
"I don't know how to say it."
Qin Jun told Xia Lan the truth.
After Xiao Yuqin finished cooking, Xia Lan waited and waited but Du Wenqing didn't show up. She frowned and got up.
"Dad, Mom, you eat first, I'll go check on things."
Xia Lan was a little worried.
"I'm here, I'm here! You don't need to come see me!"
Du Wenqing walked in carrying a freshly roasted duck and waved to Xia Lan.
"I was late because I went to queue up to buy a roast duck."
Du Wenqing explained to Xia Lan.
Xia Lan stepped forward to greet him and helped Du Wenqing sit down.
"Do you need to queue up yourself to buy roast duck?"
Xia Lan didn't believe him.
"What? Can't I even buy you a roast duck myself?"
Du Wenqing glanced at Xia Lan and said reproachfully.
I'll trust you this once.
Xia Lan glanced at Du Wenqing. Although his face was flushed, Xia Lan still noticed some clues.
A face can be made red with a few pats, but lips don't lie.
"You silly girl, after all these years, you've started to doubt me?"
Du Wenqing snorted softly, throwing a little tantrum.
"Alright, alright, please sit down. It's been a long time. Let's have a meal together. I hope Du Wenqing will do me the honor."
Xia Lan smiled and poured him some tea.
"Why are you giving me tea? I have to have a drink with Xiao Qin today to celebrate."
Du Wenqing looked at the tea Xia Lan poured for him with disdain, and reached out to take the wine.
Xia Lan slapped him away and refused to pour him any more wine.
"Celebration is fine, but no alcohol needed. We can celebrate without alcohol!"
Xia Lan glared at Du Wenqing and urged him to behave.
Du Wenqing, feeling wronged by the glare, withdrew her hand.
"You stingy person."
He muttered something under his breath, not daring to let Xia Lan hear him.
"Great-Grandpa~" Tuantuan greeted Du Wenqing with a cute and sweet smile.
Xia Lan raised an eyebrow, knowing exactly what she was up to just by looking at her.
"Oh my! My Tuantuan has grown so big? Come here and let me take a good look at her."
Du Wenqing was overjoyed to see Tuantuan, who had blossomed into a beautiful young woman.
"When I think back to when she was little, she was just a tiny baby in my arms, and now she's grown so tall..."
Du Wenqing said excitedly, "After Tuantuan grew up, her features began to resemble Xia Lan's, carrying the gentle beauty of a woman from Jiangnan."
"She's starting to look more and more like your mother."
Tuantuan happily raised her chin, overjoyed to hear that she was becoming more and more like her mother.
Do you remember me?
Du Wenqing looked at Tuantuan and Yuanyuan. The two children had grown up so much, and seeing them made her happy.
"Remember."
Yuanyuan walked up to Du Wenqing.
"You once taught me, 'The bright moonlight shines before my bed...'"
Compared to the lively Tuantuan, Yuanyuan actually spent more time with Du Wenqing when she was little.
Du Wenqing would always recite poems to Yuanyuan. Although Yuanyuan didn't know what they meant, he still had a vague impression of them in his little head.
So much so that when Xia Lan read the poem to him later, he would think of Du Wenqing whenever he heard the poem.
"Aren't you happy? The poems you read to him, as soon as I read them, he calls me 'Grandpa'."
Xia Lan smiled and told Du Wenqing about Yuan Yuan's funny stories.
Du Wenqing listened with delight, and Xiao Yuqin also shared some stories about the two little ones when they were young. Although the two little ones objected, Qin Jun and Du Wenqing listened attentively.
They've been gone for three years, and I never get tired of listening to them.
The meal lasted a full two hours, and both Du Wenqing and Qin Jun thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
After finishing his meal, Du Wenqing got up to go home.
Xia Lan got up and helped Du Wenqing, intending to take him home.
As they approached the door, they saw the two men protecting Du Wenqing. Their eyes lit up when they saw Xia Lan.
Let's go!
Du Wenqing and Xia Lan walked in front, while the two behind them looked at Xia Lan, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.
Xia Lan noticed their gazes and turned to look at them.
The two pointed at Du Wenqing and shut their mouths.
Du Wenqing forbade them from telling Xia Lan.
"Grandpa, come with me to the hospital tomorrow."
Xia Lan suddenly spoke up.
"What did they say to you again? I told them, nothing's wrong with me."
Du Wenqing pursed her lips, looking displeased.
"Who said anything to me? I asked you to come with me to the hospital to see Yuexin..."
Xia Lan looked surprised, then looked at Du Wenqing seriously.
"Confess and you'll be treated leniently! Tell me! What are you hiding from me?"
Xia Lan glared at Du Wenqing, who felt a chill run down his spine.
"I...I...I'm perfectly fine."
Du Wenqing lowered his head and refused to look at Xia Lan.
"So you really are hiding something from me!"
Xia Lan raised an eyebrow and gave a cold laugh.
"So the feelings have faded? You've been telling me everything, haven't you? Oh well, I'm still an outsider after all. I understand if you don't want me to know."
Xia Lan indifferently released Du Wenqing's hand, and Du Wenqing panicked.
"Oh, I'll talk, I'll talk, okay? Stop with this nonsense."
Du Wenqing said in frustration, giving Xia Lan a helpless glare.
Why does he always fall for this girl?
"Go ahead and say it! I'm listening!"
Xia Lan glanced coldly at Du Wenqing, putting pressure on him.
"...I've been experiencing some chest discomfort lately, and I haven't been sleeping well at night."
Du Wenqing pursed his lips.
"I'm really fine, I'm just a little bored."
He still wanted to save face, but seeing Xia Lan's sullen face, he dared not speak again.
