When they arrived at the hospital, the old lady had already woken up. Sister-in-law Caihua was standing to the side and waved to Xia Lan as she approached.
"Is he alright?"
The old lady asked nervously.
"Great, I fed him some porridge."
Xia Lan smiled.
The old lady looked at Xia Lan, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping herself.
“My husband changed it for him!”
Perhaps guessing the old lady's worries, Xia Lan smiled gently at her.
Hearing that he was alright and that Xia Lan had done all that for him, the old lady breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sister-in-law Caihua, I'll take care of things here, you can go back now!"
Xia Lan said to Sister-in-law Caihua, and Caihua, knowing this, left.
"Thank you for saving me."
When only the old lady and Xia Lan were left, the old lady spoke.
"Madam, my husband is in the military, and he seems to have recognized the old man's identity..."
Xia Lan glanced at the old lady, slowly opened the box in her hand, and handed the vegetable porridge to the old lady.
The old lady gave her a grateful look, took the spoon, and began to eat slowly and gracefully.
It's clear that the old lady must have come from a good family and received a good education.
Hearing Xia Lan's words, the old lady didn't react much. She just ate the porridge in her bowl one bite at a time until she finished the whole bowl. Then she took out her handkerchief and wiped her mouth.
“He almost died at my father’s hands. I took advantage of my father’s drunkenness to steal him out of the dungeon. He had been tortured beyond recognition and didn’t want to be a burden. He wanted to die.”
"I like him. I liked him from the first moment I saw him. Even if he doesn't like me, I want to take care of him for the rest of my life..."
The old lady looked up and gazed at Xia Lan.
