"Come on, come on, are you hungry? Looking for Mommy~"
Wu Shishi looked at Xia Lan and chuckled. Xia Lan placed the child next to Wu Shishi. Smelling his mother's scent, Yuanbao snuggled into Wu Shishi's arms.
Wu Shishi turned to feed the baby, and Xia Lan and the others left the room to avoid them.
Without disturbing Wu Shishi, Xia Lan took Qin Youyou and Qin Mo home first.
"Mom, the final exams are coming up soon. If Yuanyuan and I do well on the exams, can you take us to Shenzhen for fun?"
On the way home, Qin Youyou looked at Xia Lan and asked with a smile.
"So confident?"
Xia Lan gave Qin Youyou a teasing look.
"Your grades are usually just passing, so you need to do well on this test. What do you mean by doing well first?"
Xia Lan looked at Qin Youyou and suggested that going to Shenzhen for fun was not out of the question.
Shenzhen is probably bustling with people going to sea right now; it must be incredibly lively.
"Look, Yuanyuan can easily get a hundred on her test."
"So he's not in the plan. If you want to play, you'll have to work hard yourself."
Xia Lan looked at Qin Youyou and pointed out the grammatical errors in her words.
I want to play word games with her.
"Then...the seventy points?"
Qin Youyou thought about it and realized that with her abilities, scoring seventy would be quite an achievement.
You should know that she usually studies very hard but only barely passes.
"Eighty points, that's my lowest score."
"Mom, do you really trust me that much?"
Qin Youyou couldn't believe it; Xia Lan's score of 80 felt like a death sentence.
"You silly girl, you're so smart, but you just don't like to study."
Xia Lan poked Qin Youyou's forehead in exasperation. She was just as smart as Qin Mo when she was little, so why does she seem to dislike studying more as she gets older?
"Mom, one Yuanyuan who's good at studying is enough!"
"Can he live in your place?"
Xia Lan pinched Qin Youyou's cheek.
"Of course I know Yuanyuan did well on the test, but I've never really insisted that you all get a perfect score, have I?"
"Yuanyuan can get a hundred points because that test paper is a hundred points."
"You could have easily scored 100, but you deliberately only passed."
"What, do you think we only care about Yuanyuan and not you? Or are you just playing the rebel against me?"
Xia Lan's words startled Qin Youyou.
"So you knew all along, Mom..."
Unexpectedly, Xia Lan guessed her thoughts.
"You were born from my belly, how could I not know?"
"I'm having you study not for my own sake, nor for Yuanyuan's sake, but so that you can learn to discern the world."
"Reading is the only and best shortcut. I don't want you to go through it all before you realize how valuable reading is."
Xia Lan gently hugged Qin Youyou.
"Mom knows that sometimes I neglect you because of work, but that doesn't mean Mom and Dad don't love you."
"You are all my precious babies, born from my mother. I have worked my hardest to obtain them."
Xia Lan's words made Qin Youyou's eyes redden.
She always felt that Xia Lan was different from other mothers.
Other students' mothers constantly pressured them to get a perfect score, but Xia Lan never forced them to.
This made Qin Youyou feel a little disappointed, wondering if Xia Lan didn't value her and Yuanyuan.
Now that Xia Lan has spoken so frankly, Qin Youyou finally understands that Xia Lan isn't indifferent to them; it's precisely because she cares that she doesn't put so much pressure on them.
“You envy other classmates’ mothers who nag them every day, saying, ‘If you don’t get a perfect score, you’re not eating today.’”
Xia Lan imitated the hysterical shouting, and Qin Youyou immediately shook her head.
"Learning is not a person's ultimate goal, but it is the most indispensable thing for your growth. Only by learning can a person continue to move forward."
"Learning is not just about books, but also about our real-life experiences. Don't wait until you lose something to realize its value."
"No matter what you do in the future, I hope that you are happy when you do it."
Xia Lan's words of encouragement warmed Qin Youyou's heart.
"Besides, you are my daughter, Xia Lan. I will not allow you to say that you are stupid. You are very smart and have a very quick reaction."
Xia Lan spoke of Qin Youyou's strengths.
“Yuanyuan is indeed steady, but there are many things he cannot do.”
"Is there something Yuanyuan can't do?"
This was the first time Qin Youyou had heard that even the perfect Qin Mo had things he couldn't do.
"Yuanyuan, do you see that auntie over there? Go ask her what her son's name is?"
Xia Lan said to Qin Mo.
Qin Mo pursed his lips and followed Xia Lan's words to walk towards that aunt. After only a few simple words, Qin Mo returned.
He shook his head at Xia Lan.
He couldn't get the question out.
"Youyou, why don't you give it a try?"
Xia Lan chuckled and nudged Qin Youyou.
"good."
Qin Youyou walked up to the aunt with a smile, and the two chatted for a while. Soon after, Qin Youyou returned with a beaming smile.
"Auntie's son is twenty-six this year and still not married. His name is Wang Youcai..."
Qin Mo was taken aback when he saw the string of sentences Qin Youyou recited.
"You got all the answers in such a short time?"
Qin Mo was also somewhat surprised.
After all, when he asked the aunt, she only gave him a wary look and said she was very busy.
Did Qin Youyou do it so easily?
"Well done."
Xia Lan gently patted Qin Youyou's head.
"See? That's your advantage."
