Chapter 294 Military Wife Wang Xiaoling

Xia Lan looked at the woman and child, and Qin Yu followed her gaze.

The child was quiet, but the woman kept shaking the child.

Xia Lan felt uncomfortable just looking at it.

"Sister-in-law, such a young child shouldn't be shaking his head like that!"

Xia Lan couldn't help but remind her.

“My child is used to sleeping while being rocked like this; he cries if I don’t rock him.”

The woman looked at Xia Lan and said helplessly. She was tired from carrying her, but there was nothing she could do.

As soon as she stopped, the child would cry loudly, which aroused everyone's dissatisfaction.

The woman could only sway once more.

Seeing this, Xia Lan knew that the child must have been shaken like this the whole time.

"Sister-in-law, can I hug him?"

Xia Lan stood up, walked to the woman, and asked softly.

"It's possible, but are you sure you can do it?"

A woman is more than happy to have someone lend a hand.

Xia Lan was clearly pregnant, as she was showing signs of pregnancy.

"I'm about to become a mother, and I want to try to soothe this child?"

Xia Lan said, pretending to be joking.

"Oh! Thank you so much! I haven't let go of your hand the whole time."

The woman entrusted her child to Xia Lan, not because she trusted Xia Lan completely, but because Xia Lan didn't seem like a bad person. Besides, she had such an upright husband by her side, and the woman felt like she had grasped a lifeline.

She has been holding the child the whole time and hasn't eaten a single meal yet.

Xia Lan took the child and saw that the child was covered with a nylon bag, but inside was a new set of clothes.

"Oh, these clothes were just sent by his dad. I was afraid they would get dirty, so I put a bag over the child's head."

The woman sat down on her bunk and quickly ate a couple of bites of a multigrain steamed bun.

She was starving to death, holding her child, and even getting a sip of water was difficult.

Xia Lan held the child and gently rocked him back and forth. The movement was small, but the child was very comfortable and continued to sleep peacefully without crying.

"Wow, I didn't expect you to be so skilled! My son is four months old, and I've been rocking him like this the whole time. It's exhausting!"

The woman looked at Xia Lan with curiosity. She seemed to be doing nothing, but her mischievous son was sleeping so comfortably without making a sound.

"Whenever he hums, I have to sway, and I can't stop."

The woman said helplessly, pointing to her wrist.

"My arms are so sore I can barely lift them. Can you teach me how to make him sleep so peacefully?"

The woman was very interested in Xia Lan's method.

It can save you!

"Where are you headed, sister-in-law?"

Xia Lan could tell that the woman had no elders to help her and was probably figuring out how to take care of the child on her own.

“I’m going to stay with my husband! He’s in the army! He didn’t have a high enough rank before, so he wasn’t allocated a house. But this time he did a good job and wrote back saying he got promoted and can bring his family! So I quickly took my son and went to stay with him.”

The woman smiled with a hint of pride.

"Military wife! You're really amazing! Raising a child all by yourself must be incredibly difficult."

Xia Lan looked at the woman, impressed by her strength in raising her child alone.

That's really not easy.

The woman waved to Xia Lan and smiled.

“What’s wrong with that? That’s what happens when you get married! My husband and I are both unfortunate. We don’t even have any relatives. When I gave birth, I had to ask the neighbors next door to help me with my postpartum care.”

The woman frankly told Xia Lan about her background.

"Sister-in-law, don't be sad! Things will get better!"

Xia Lan patted the woman, comforting her.

"My parents have only recently passed away!"

The woman was genuinely surprised. She glanced at Xia Lan and patted her hand.

They have experienced the pain of losing both parents and know all too well what it feels like.

It evokes a feeling of shared misfortune, like two people adrift in the same world.

"My name is Wang Xiaoling, and this is my son, Gou Dan."

Wang Xiaoling introduced herself to Xia Lan.

Xia Lan paused when she heard the name of the child in her arms.

"Dog Egg?"

"Haha, that's what the old folks in the village say: a humble name makes a child easier to raise! His formal name will be given to him by his father! I've never been to school and I can't read."

Wang Xiaoling chuckled at Xia Lan. This was a tradition in the village, and besides, she was illiterate, so she simply called her son Gou Dan (Dog Egg).

I hope my son can grow up safely.

Xia Lan looked at Wang Xiaoling and chuckled.

"My name is Xia Lan, and this is my husband, Qin Yu."

"Hello."

Qin Yu stood behind Xia Lan and nodded to Wang Xiaoling.

“Your husband is really imposing, just like my husband, he likes to have a stern face.”

Wang Xiaoling looked Qin Yu up and down, and saw her husband in him; he also liked to keep a stern face like that.

Qin Yu touched his nose.

Xia Lan chuckled softly.

"He's a former soldier too, so he always has that stern face!"

"No wonder! I knew it looked just like me!"

Wang Xiaoling clapped her hands and said that this person looked a lot like her husband; it turned out they were both soldiers.

Seeing that the child was already fast asleep, Xia Lan put the child on Wang Xiaoling's bed.

"No, no, no, I'll hold him! This brat wakes up as soon as I put him down, and I'm full too! Thank you, sister!"

Wang Xiaoling rushed over to take over, but saw that Xia Lan had already put the child down, and the child didn't even react, just letting Xia Lan put the child down like that.

"...Is this kid deliberately bullying me?"

Wang Xiaoling couldn't express her feelings; she felt that her son was deliberately bullying her.

Why does he wake up whenever she lets him out?
