Even two strangers with no blood relation to him can care about him so much, but his own daughter keeps poking at his trachea.
Old Du turned to look at Xia Lan, raised his teacup and took a small sip.
"Girl, I just heard it! I'll be relying on you and Qin Yu to take care of me in my old age!"
Old Du looked at Xia Lan with hope in his eyes.
Xia Lan widened her eyes, pretending not to hear.
"What? You... what did you say?"
"You little brat, you're asking for it." Old Du's eyes widened, and his beard stood on end.
"Hehehehe... So you heard me? What are we going to do then? You can forget about living alone from now on. I'll bother you every day, drive you crazy, and you won't be able to get rid of me even if you want to."
Xia Lan made a funny face.
"Hmph, you think I'm afraid of you? You're so annoying, I'll just plug my ears!"
Old Du arrogantly raised his chin and glanced at her with a disdainful look.
Go ahead and yell at me if you dare!
"Then don't even think about eating some pickled vegetables with rice anymore! If you don't take good care of your health, I'll pluck all your hairs out one by one!"
Xia Lan glared and said fiercely.
"Alright, alright, I give up! You little housekeeper!"
Old Du replied with a smile.
"I'm not him, this is."
Xia Lan put her hands on her hips and pointed at Qin Yu, who had been watching from the sidelines.
Qin Yu chuckled.
"Okay, I'll take care of it."
"Hahaha……"
Old Du laughed heartily.
The two 'invisible people' eating the food Qin Yu cooked looked at Qin Yu and Xia Lan, and then remembered that every time Du Juan came over, there was only arguing in the house, and there was never any laughter.
The two men were also struggling with their own choices. They had been ordered to protect Elder Du, and they needed to ask Elder Du who they could and could not approach.
Every time Du Juan came over, the atmosphere was heavy.
After this happened several times, Old Du clearly didn't want to see her anymore.
Now it seems that those who can get close to Elder Du...
There are only these two left.
After sitting with Mr. Du for a while, Mr. Du still felt a bit full, so Xia Lan suggested going out for a walk to digest his food.
Old Du nodded and led Xia Lan and Qin Yu out the door.
"With Qin Yu here, you can rest assured and eat here! Take a rest, you've all worked hard these past few days."
Just as the two were about to get up and follow, Old Du told them to continue eating.
Qin Yu nodded to the two of them.
"Don't worry! I will protect Old Du."
The two men met Qin Yu's gaze and saw the same ruthlessness and sharpness in his eyes as their own. They exchanged a glance, then sat down and continued eating.
Supported by Xia Lan, Old Du walked slowly through the alley, as if taking an after-dinner stroll.
Just as they exited the alley, Xia Lan saw a park and pulled Old Du toward it.
"There's a park there, perfect."
Old Du glanced at the park and saw several old men playing Go in a pavilion, with their children standing beside them.
In the past, Old Du didn't like to go out because he didn't want to see such a scene. Everyone else had their children and grandchildren accompanying and protecting them, but he was all alone.
So he never wanted to go out and stayed in his yard.
Now that Xia Lan and Qin Yu are by his side, he is no longer afraid.
As Xia Lan helped Old Du walk to the park, several old men who were playing chess happened to look up and see Old Du.
"What wind blew you out of your house today?"
Xia Lan, sensing no malice in the words, looked at Old Du, who responded with a soft snort upon hearing the teasing remark.
"You terrible chess player, did you even win?"
"Old Du, are you trying to sabotage me? Let me tell you, out of those four, I'm the best player!"
"What did you say? Old Wang, I let you win a couple of rounds recently, and now you're getting cocky and don't know which way is up? You think you're the best? Have some shame! You're so old..."
Someone immediately retaliated.
Looking at Du Wenqing, his eyes swept over Xia Lan and Qin Yu beside him, and he invited them with a smile.
"Hey Du, give me some face and come over for a game?"
"You think I'm afraid of you!"
Old Du pursed his lips, then pulled Xia Lan and Qin Yu to go and greet them.
When they arrived at the pavilion, Old Wang had already given up his seat for Du Wenqing and sat down on the other side.
"I'll give you three points, so don't say I'm bullying you."
Old Du sat down, picked up the white pieces, and said calmly to his opponent.
"Old Yang, you have to do us a favor, don't lose!"
Old Wang smiled at Old Yang, Old Du's opponent.
"Don't sit next to me, it makes me nervous!"
Old Yang shooed Old Wang, who was sitting next to him, away with a look of disgust, then took out the black pieces and began to place them.
The two began to play back and forth, their moves so fast that it was impossible to blink.
Xia Lan watched as Du Lao's opponent played chess without hesitation, clearly showing that he was not 'unable' as Wang Lao had claimed.
After watching for a while, the two seemed evenly matched, but it was clear that Old Du was slightly better.
Seeing this, Xia Lan pulled Qin Yu to sit down to the side, gazing at the beautiful scenery in the park and no longer paying attention to the chess game.
Those in the pavilion couldn't help but glance at Xia Lan and Qin Yu, who were looking relaxed and carefree.
"Old Du, who are these two young men to you?" Old Wang asked Du Wenqing curiously.
Old Du raised the corners of his mouth slightly and glanced at Xia Lan, who was humming a little tune. Everyone else who followed him over quickly tried to curry favor with the old men around him.
If you can befriend even one of them, you can establish yourself in the capital.
These two, however, started talking about love as if no one else was around, showing no intention of coming over to offer their greetings.
It's no wonder they were curious.
