Xia Lan single-handedly managed to win over all the aunties in the village.
The more they doubted Xia Lan and Qin Yu's chances, the more Xia Lan wanted them to know that her and Qin Yu's life would only get better and better.
After the aunties left in a huff, the vegetables brought by Zhao Zilong solved the immediate problem, and Qin Yu specially cooked a table full of delicious dishes for lunch.
Seventh Uncle sat at the table, looking pleased with himself, waiting for the meal to begin. Qin Yu then asked Zhao Xiaolong to invite Third Uncle as well.
Upon hearing the name of his third uncle, the seventh uncle felt a chill run down his spine.
Third Uncle was helped over, and as soon as he entered the door, he saw Seventh Uncle and gave a soft snort.
I knew he was with Qin Yu; I'd seen right through him long ago.
"Third Brother..."
Seventh Uncle looked at Third Uncle with a fawning smile, like a mouse seeing a cat.
"I knew you were with Qin Yu. You told me you were going to go shopping, but you ended up here instead, didn't you?"
Third Uncle glanced at Seventh Uncle and pursed his lips.
"I'm not angry, they're saying Xia is manipulating Shi Tou..."
Seventh Uncle said aggrievedly, glancing cautiously at Third Uncle.
"I can't be bothered with you." Third Uncle didn't dare say that he had come to check on Qin Yu and Xia Lan because he had heard these words.
Seventh Uncle chuckled, knowing that Third Brother was no longer angry, and then sat down in relief.
Qin Yu was cooking in the kitchen, and Xia Lan was helping him serve the dishes. The two would glance at each other from time to time, and anyone could tell that they were currently in the throes of a passionate romance.
With their inseparable bond, how could Third Uncle and Seventh Uncle, being experienced people themselves, not know?
They glanced at the two of them with satisfaction, and seeing their loving relationship, they were very pleased.
Only Zhao Xiaolong, who had just swallowed the dog food, was now fed another bellyful, so full that his face was numb, and he looked at them speechlessly.
After the meal, Third Uncle took Seventh Uncle back home.
Qin Yu and Xia Lan carried lunchboxes and prepared to visit Old Du, whom they hadn't seen in a long time.
When the two arrived at the pigsty, Old Du was leisurely reading a book, occasionally glancing warily outside to make sure no one was coming.
Upon seeing Qin Yu and Xia Lan, Old Du paused and quickly put away his book.
"Why did you come here in broad daylight?"
Old Du said nervously, urging them to leave quickly.
"It wouldn't be good if someone saw you coming to see me."
"Don't worry, Mr. Du! The revolution is over." Xia Lan handed Mr. Du the prepared newspaper, letting him see the developments in the world.
"There are no more stinking intellectuals now, and no one will criticize you anymore."
Xia Lan looked at Old Master Du and spoke earnestly, word by word.
As Xia Lan had said, when Du Lao looked at the newspaper, all the darkness had passed and a new dawn had arrived.
Her eyes instantly turned red.
"I've finally waited for this day."
"So you don't have to worry about being criticized anymore..."
Xia Lan and Qin Yu exchanged a glance, then looked at Elder Du earnestly.
"well……"
Old Du hugged the newspaper tightly, feeling that everything he had insisted on had been worthwhile.
"Look what delicious food we brought you!"
Xia Lan quickly changed the subject, afraid that Old Master Du might get too excited.
Old Du opened the lunchbox, looked at the sumptuous meal inside, picked up his chopsticks, and ate it bite by bite...
As I ate, tears began to drip into my lunchbox, and then, uncontrollably, more and more tears welled up in my eyes.
Xia Lan and Qin Yu felt heartbroken seeing Old Du like this.
The old man persevered for so long with his faith, and finally everything he had been looking forward to came to pass.
After silently finishing his meal, which was soaked with tears, Old Du looked up again and was once again the Du Wenqing who never bowed his head.
"There's another thing we'd like to ask you for help with this time."
Xia Lan looked at Old Master Du and said softly.
"Just tell me what you want! As long as it's not murder or arson, I'll do whatever you ask."
Old Du looked at Xia Lan and Qin Yu; this was the sunlight he encountered in his final moments.
"Then pack your things and come with us!"
Seeing that Elder Du agreed so readily, Qin Yu said to Elder Du.
"ah?"
Old Du was taken aback and glanced at Qin Yu, who then stepped forward to help him pack his things.
"Alright, just pack whatever you like, I've prepared everything for you."
Qin Yu collected all of Old Du's meager possessions and, together with Xia Lan, took Old Du home.
Old Du followed the two home with a puzzled look on his face. Before he could say anything, Xia Lan brought out a set of clothes for Old Du and told him to take a bath and change into the new clothes.
"What exactly are they trying to do?"
Mr. Du was completely baffled by what the two of them were doing.
"Didn't you say that you'd do anything as long as I didn't ask you to kill or set fires?"
Qin Yu replied to him using Old Du's words.
Old Du glanced at Qin Yu and had no choice but to obediently comply.
Having not taken a proper bath in so many years, it took Old Du a full half hour to clean himself up.
Wearing the Zhongshan suit that Xia Lan bought for him, he seemed to have returned to the spirited and high-spirited days of his youth.
"What are you doing?" Old Du sat in his chair, looking at the two people opposite him, and asked seriously with a frown.
"You said last time that you wanted to be my teacher, right?" Qin Yu smiled at Old Du.
"I've always remembered that line."
"I won't go back on my word once I've promised you."
Old Du nodded; he had indeed promised Qin Yu that he would teach him.
"Now no one will bully you anymore. You can live with us openly and teach me to read."
Qin Yu looked at Elder Du seriously and said.
