Chapter 16 I really ate it.

Ye Daquan didn't believe her, but after a moment's thought, his face darkened.

"Oh, you brat, is it because you hate your aunt that you falsely accused her of eating poisonous roots so that we could force her to eat excrement?"

Upon hearing this, Old Man Ye realized what was happening: "Jin Hua, stop fooling around."

Ye Jinhua felt utterly wronged and glared fiercely at Ye Caiping: "You damned devils, you can't be reasoned with! If you insist on making excuses, then just wait to die!"

With that, he turned and ran away.

"You brat, stop right there!" Ye Daquan shouted, pointing at her back, wishing he could throw the manure in his hand at her.

But if I spilled it, the whole house would stink, and it would be a hassle to clean up, so I just had to hold back.

“Big brother, she's just concerned about us,” Ye Caiping said.

"No, that brat did it on purpose."

"Alright, stop arguing." Old Man Ye frowned, then looked at Ye Caiping: "You really didn't eat?"

Ye Caiping said, "Don't worry! If we really want to die, we might as well hang ourselves from a crooked tree. Why suffer that?"

Old Man Ye frowned. Although today's events were strange, Cai Ping's words made sense.

It must be so painful to die from eating poisonous roots. You'll foam at the mouth, suffer from unbearable abdominal pain, heartburn, and lung burns. I've even heard that you might have trouble breathing. It's such a torment.

"It's good that you're alright." Old Man Ye sighed, then turned to Ye Daquan and said, "Don't blame Jinhua for this, she must have misread it."

"Jinhua was so worried about us that she came back to us in a moment of panic," Ye Caiping said.

"Alright, I'll spare her for my little sister's sake." Ye Daquan snorted and took the scoop of manure to the outhouse.

After emptying the excrement back into the chamber pot and washing his hands, Ye Daquan went to knock on Ye Jinhua's door again: "You brat, if you cause trouble again, I'll break your legs!"

Ye Jinhua, inside the room, was furious. She hid under the covers and muttered under her breath, "Go ahead and curse! Once these three women are all dead, let's see if you can still laugh then."

In the evening, Grandma Ye and Madam Du returned from town.

As soon as Du entered the house, she heard about Ye Jinhua's trouble earlier that day. Her face darkened, and she pulled Ye Jinhua aside, closed the door, and scolded her in a low voice.

"Are you out of your mind? Why did you have to frame her like that? You know she can say one thing to you that's worth a hundred things to you. It's no wonder you can't get anything done, you brat."

As he spoke, he poked Ye Jinhua's head hard with his finger.

“Mother!” Ye Jinhua slapped her hand away. “I didn’t wrong her! I saw them eat the poisonous root with my own eyes.”

Madam Du was taken aback. No one knows a daughter better than her mother, and Madam Du could tell at a glance whether her daughter was lying or not.

She hesitated for a moment: "You really ate it?"

"I'll definitely eat it!"

"It's been two hours since noon, why hasn't the poison taken effect yet?"

Ye Jinhua was stunned by the question: "This... I saw them eating something pink and white..."

"There's a poisonous root on the ground... Wait! I see, they didn't eat the poisonous root, they ate something else. They deliberately left a poisonous root on the ground to mislead me!"

As she spoke, Ye Jinhua gritted her teeth and stomped her foot angrily: "Fine! They deliberately framed me!"

After hearing this, Madam Du agreed and her face darkened.

It must be because I went against Ye Caiping a few days ago, so Ye Caiping dug a pit for my daughter to fall into, in order to teach them a lesson.

Du was furious at the thought, but what was infuriating was that they couldn't do anything about Ye Caiping.

"That wicked woman! She better pray that she can get married within four months, otherwise, if she falls into my hands, I will definitely make her marry a scoundrel."

Hearing this, Ye Jinhua's anger subsided, her eyes lost all light, and she pursed her lips.

If it really comes to that, will Grandpa and Dad agree?

Besides, even if my sister-in-law really gets married, so what?

Despite her father's doting on her, the family continued to support her husband's family, leaving them practically empty.

When will this horrible life of being dominated by my awful sister-in-law ever end?

"Jinhua?" Seeing her daughter suddenly looking dejected, Madam Du couldn't help but call out.

Ye Jinhua glanced at her and said indifferently, "Instead of thinking about these things, let's think about what we'll eat when we run out of that bag of brown rice."

Madam Du's expression changed slightly. She had noticed it recently; the porridge at home had become much thinner, and she would feel hungry again right after eating.

Thinking about it, Madam Du quickly went out the door.

Soon, they arrived at Grandma Ye's room.

Grandma Ye was resting on the bed.

They didn't take an oxcart to town; the round trip would take an hour and a half, and with her bad legs, she was exhausted.

Seeing Madam Du lift the curtain and enter, Old Madam Ye opened her eyes: "Did you mention Jinhua?"

In the eyes of Old Lady Ye and others, today's incident was Jin Hua framing Ye Caiping so that Ye Caiping would be forced to drink excrement.

Madam Du's face darkened. What did this have to do with her daughter? It was clearly Ye Caiping who framed her daughter!

But she had no evidence!

Suppressing her anger, Madam Du frowned and asked, "Mother, how much grain do we have left at home?"

Grandma Ye sighed softly, "It won't last more than a few days."

Just then, Madam Wei walked in, carrying two rough porcelain bowls: "Mother, I'm going to cook. Oh, my sister-in-law is here too!"

Du nodded to her.

Grandma Ye got out of bed, went to the dresser, and unlocked it.

For farmers, rice is the most important thing, and it is locked in the head of the household's house. Vegetables are stored in underground pits.

Grandma Ye took out the rice bucket, opened the lid, and saw that there was only a small half bucket of slightly yellow brown rice left, which looked to be no more than fifteen or sixteen pounds.
