Ye Caiping and her companion arrived at the place where the oxcart was parked at the entrance of the town.
Ye Daquan was lying in the car in a daze when he saw them, so he sat up and said, "Hey, little sisters, you've finished shopping? You're back pretty early."
Jin Hua's heart, scarred by numerous knife wounds, clenched. She had thought it would be many days before she returned, but little did she expect it to be just a half-day trip...
Upon returning home, Jin Hua immediately locked herself in her room.
When Madam Du and Old Lady Ye saw Jinhua return, they breathed a sigh of relief and quickly pulled Ye Caiping and Daquan into the room to talk.
Ye Caiping recounted the whole story, and the Du mother-in-law and daughter-in-law gasped in shock.
Madam Du gritted her teeth and said, "I originally thought it was Mrs. Xie who was vicious, but who would have thought it was that shameless and despicable Zhou. Alas, if it weren't for Mrs. Xie, I don't know what would have happened to Jinhua."
Ye Caiping said, "That makes it even simpler. When I said I wanted to find a storyteller, Zhou Ziyang got scared. He doesn't particularly like Jin Hua, and he's only interested in marrying someone from a high-class family. He would never ruin his reputation for a Jin Hua."
“Let’s go find Miss Song again. Once Jin Hua knows that Miss Song is no longer here, she’ll see everything clearly. If she still can’t see it, then there’s no need to try to save her.”
Du exclaimed in surprise, "Then... what if his fiancée really exists? What if he's really engaged?"
Ye Caiping scoffed, "Absolutely impossible. After all this time, how could my brother and sister-in-law not have found out he really has a fiancée?"
"Furthermore, he had only been engaged for a few days, and he immediately took a beautiful concubine. He couldn't wait to marry her. Wasn't that a slap in the face to his fiancée? No normal person would dare to do that. I knew then that he didn't have a fiancée at all."
"However... Miss Song should exist!"
Hearing Mrs. Xie's words, "Don't ruin someone else's young lady's reputation," one knows there is such a person. Perhaps she's the one Zhou Ziyang has always wanted to marry, but unfortunately, she ignores him.
Madam Du sighed, "How can someone so young be so cunning!"
Ye Caiping said, "These are all petty tricks that can't be brought to the table. His cunning is only enough to fool Jinhua and you, my brother and sister-in-law."
Ye Daquan and Du Shi: "..."
The next day, Ye Caiping went to the county town and spent a few copper coins to ask a little beggar about a scholar named Song in the county.
The Song family were local gentry with considerable wealth. In addition, they held the title of Juren (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations), making them quite well-known in Yue'an County and earning them the reputation of a scholarly family.
Miss Song was the youngest daughter of Scholar Song, who was most beloved by the scholar.
After finding out the details, Ye Caiping went back.
Since returning home that day, Jin Hua has kept herself locked in her room.
Jin Hua was heartbroken, but she still held a glimmer of hope, wondering if Zhou Ziyang had some hidden story and if he would come to her again to explain.
But day after day passed, and still no one came.
Her heart gradually grew cold.
And a few days later, she heard a joke.
It is said that when Zhou Ziyang was walking on the street, he was stopped by a woman in her forties who was accompanied by several thugs. The woman held him down and began to beat and kick him.
"How could you be so despicable and shameless? Last time you came to propose marriage, our master refused, and you resorted to underhanded tactics! You actually told everyone that my young lady is your fiancée? Bah! You lowly little merchant, a toad trying to eat swan meat! You should take a piss and look at yourself in the mirror!"
"How dare you tarnish my young lady's reputation! Beat her! Beat her hard!"
Zhou Ziyang's face was covered in bruises and he looked quite disheveled.
Jin Hua gasped when she heard Xiao Yan and Jin'er discussing this in the corridor outside.
Miss Song is a real person, but she is not his fiancée!
It turns out it was all true! He didn't have a fiancée, but he made one up to deceive her!
Even her last shred of hope was shattered!
That day, Jin Hua, though still taciturn, went out.
He ate quietly, and instead of helping Du make spicy soup, he went to the fields to pull weeds or to the mountains to gather firewood and cut pig feed.
Ye Caiping and the others knew that Jin Hua needed time to heal her wounds, so they ignored her and let her do whatever she wanted.
On April 8th, Ye Daquan's house was completed.
The date for moving has been set for April 20th.
Today is the day the furniture is delivered to our home.
Ye Caiping, Old Lady Ye, and Madam Wei, among others, all went to the new house to look at the furniture.
These pieces of furniture were all made according to the drawings Ye Caiping had made last time, but there were some differences in the details.
Both inside and outside the house, it was Wang Shuantou and his son, along with Ye Yong, who were fighting together.
Only a few sets of tables, chairs, and cabinets in Ye Daquan and his wife's room were designed by Ye Yong alone.
Ye Caiping and the others all crowded into Ye Daquan's room to watch.
"Mom, my cousin's cooking is really good." Ye Jin'er touched the table set and exclaimed in amazement.
Ye Caiping nodded. Although her skills were not as good as those of the Wang brothers, Wang Shuantou and Wang Shouqiang, they were already quite good and could be sold for money.
Du looked delighted and proud: "It's all thanks to Uncle Wang's excellent teaching."
Wang Shuantou sat at the doorway, chuckling.
Ye Yong's ears turned bright red from the praise.
Ye Caiping carefully examined Ye Yong's skills and couldn't help but admire how honest Wang Shuantou was! Ye Yong had only been learning for less than half a year, yet he had already mastered all the real skills.
After looking at the furniture, we then looked at Ye Daquan's house.
The house was built according to the layout of Ye Caiping's house, except that the kitchen was placed in the outer yard, while the livestock shed and vegetable garden were placed on the side of the house.
Ye Erquan said, "That's good. Our livestock sheds are all in the yard, and they stink terribly."
Ye Caiping said, "I remember that my second brother's family bought 6 fen of land, but only built 4 fen of it. They could use the remaining 2 fen to buy bricks to build a fence around the livestock shed and move it out."
