In the days that followed, Chu Yiran and Su Jing settled down in Hengdian, their schedules as packed as a wound-up toy, their days and nights reversed. It was as if they were temporarily isolated from the world, dwelling together in the world built by "The Dream of the Past".

Chu Yiran noticed that on mornings when his throat was hoarse from staying up all night memorizing lines, his thermos would always be filled with just the right amount of hot water, such as dried sea buckthorn or honey water; during breaks on set, his folding chair would have an extra soft cushion; and once, he casually mentioned that the prop snacks for a certain scene were too sweet, and the snacks were removed the next day...

Chu Yiran knew who did it. He and the person were in a silent standoff, the atmosphere subtle and indescribable.

The alley was narrow and long, the bluestone pavement was darkened by the rain from the previous night, and icicles hung from the window sills, shimmering faintly in the thin winter sunlight.

Chu Yiran and Su Jing are going to film a scene where they ride bicycles.

Dressed in a crisp Western suit, Chu Yiran took a deep breath and mounted the rather old-fashioned 28-inch bicycle. He used to be a skilled horse rider, but he was quite rusty when it came to this heavy and skill-intensive old machine.

He glanced back at Su Jing, who was already sitting behind him. Su Jing was wearing a worn-out school uniform and glasses, looking like a frail scholar. In the script, Su Jing's character was from a poor family and had never ridden a bicycle.

Chu Yiran pushed off with his foot, and the car suddenly lurched forward, then began to sway wildly from side to side in a terrifying manner.

His muscles were tense, and he frantically tried to control the handlebars, with beads of sweat almost seeping from his forehead.

Just as the bicycle veered sharply toward a prop basket full of vegetables, Su Jing caught Chu Yiran by the waist.

The warm palm, through the not-too-thick suit fabric, was clearly pressed against Chu Yiran's waist, the force neither too light nor too heavy, steadily supporting his body.

"Be careful," Su Jing whispered in his ear.

"Director—" Chu Yiran slammed on the brakes, staggering and landing on her feet. "I'm sorry, I might need to practice some more."

"It seems our young master has been too busy studying abroad, his riding skills aren't very good..." Director Wang Wei waved his hand, a smile coming from behind the monitor, "It's okay, Xiao Chu, take a rest, don't be nervous, this bike is still very easy to ride."

Chu Yiran nodded hurriedly and got out of the car in a fluster. He didn't have time to look at the expression of the person behind him and fled straight back to the RV.

Not long after, after several attempts, the bicycle finally managed to get back on the road, albeit shakily. Chu Yiran concentrated all his energy, trying to steady the handlebars, while Su Jing also held onto the back rack properly, not daring to overstep the mark again.

Just as they were about to pass through the alley, the front wheel suddenly ran over a loose bluestone slab, causing the vehicle to lurch violently! Chu Yiran cried out in surprise, his center of gravity completely shifted, and he uncontrollably fell to the ground.

In a flash, an arm swiftly reached out from behind him, precisely grabbing his arm as he tried to maintain his balance, and pulling him back forcefully—it was Su Jing.

"Bang!"

A muffled thud, followed by a suppressed groan.

The expected pain did not come. Chu Yiran fell into a warm embrace. Su Jing's hand firmly supported his lower back, and he could even hear the other's heartbeat.

"Oh my!"

Are you alright?

There was a moment of silence, followed by gasps from the staff.

"Young Master, are you alright?"

Su Jing's teasing voice, tinged with laughter, came from above. Chu Yiran blushed and frantically tried to sit up and escape this extremely embarrassing situation.

However, a warm hand pressed gently against the back of his head first, pressing his face down slightly with undeniable force.

Immediately afterwards, a shadow fell, blocking out the surrounding gazes and glaring lights. It was Su Jing who put his student cap on Chu Yiran's head, shielding him from his embarrassment.

The staff who rushed over helped the two people who were lying on the ground to their feet, and the director also quickly stepped forward to ask with concern, "Are you alright? Did you fall?"

Su Jing helped Chu Yiran to her feet and said casually, "It's nothing."

"It's good that you're alright," the director waved. "Everyone, take a ten-minute break and regroup!"

Chu Yiran glanced at Su Jing, said nothing, and turned to leave.

——

When Chu Yiran finished work that evening, he saw Sun Xiaoxiao holding her phone and grinning foolishly. He frowned and asked, "What are you looking at? Why are you so happy?"

Sun Xiaoxiao's lips twitched. She glanced at Chu Yiran, then at her phone screen, and shook her head mysteriously, saying, "Brother Ran, you don't want to know."

The more Sun Xiaoxiao said this, the more curious Chu Yiran became. Without waiting for Sun Xiaoxiao's reaction, Chu Yiran leaned his head closer.

The screen was filled with videos of Chu Yiran and Su Jing falling together during the day. The photographer's high-definition lens zoomed in infinitely, showing Chu Yiran's blushing face and Su Jing's smile. Then, Su Jing put his hat on Chu Yiran's head, and the staff around them surrounded them...

The video, coupled with its suggestive background music, created an even bigger mess in the comments section.

"As expected of a drama with two male leads, it's already generating buzz?"

"Aren't these two supposed to be at odds? Why are they holding hands? And even putting their arms around each other's waists? What's going on?"

"Help! The way they're together is so sweet! Su Jing looks at Chu Yiran with such tenderness!"

"Isn't this what they mean by 'hate the sea and love the sky'? They were enemies in their past lives, but are now soulmates, destined to be entangled for life!"

"I hereby declare that I'm shipping this bizarre couple! Who understands this bittersweet feeling?!"

...

Chu Yiran lowered her eyes somewhat awkwardly, and Sun Xiaoxiao whispered, "See, I told you you didn't want to know..."

Is it a love-hate relationship, a lifetime of entanglement...?

Chu Yiran gave a self-deprecating twitch at the corner of his mouth. He didn't know what his relationship with Su Jing was like now. Su Jing from his previous life was gone, and his love had dissipated with her. His hatred had nowhere to go either. He wanted to get away, but it was like being entangled in a fine spider web. He could only sink into a quagmire where he was powerless to hate and even less able to love.
