Shen Huai'an changed into clean clothes and dried his hair, returning to his original appearance. Lin Wanxing carefully supported him the whole time, afraid that he would fall because of leg pain.
Shen Huai'an didn't see Xie Xiaodong's complexion improve slightly after he was moved to a regular ward.
It was already dawn. Xie Xiaodong was incredibly lucky to have survived such a serious injury.
Shen Huai'an took off his broken glasses. Without the glasses to cover his eyes, his charming eyes became even more attractive. His eyes were always so gentle.
"Seeing Xiao Dong like this puts my mind at ease." Shen Huai'an finally felt relieved.
"Xingxing, let's go home for now. Xiaodong is alright."
Lin Wanxing held Shen Huai'an's hand tightly, not daring to let go. Only when he heard that his second brother had returned home did he gradually feel relieved.
"Zheng Hu, take Xingxing to the car and wait for me. I need to see Xiaodong one last time before I can leave with peace of mind. I also need to say a few more words to the doctor at the hospital."
Shen Huai'an is now thinking about this friend all the time, but Lin Wanxing is no longer jealous, after all, Xie Xiaodong saved her second brother.
Lin Wanxing obediently left with Zheng Hu, Butler Chen, and Assistant Qin, while Shen Huai'an returned to the ward to see Xie Xiaodong.
The only sound in the quiet ward was the ventilator.
Xie Xiaodong lay quietly on the hospital bed, his whole body wrapped in gauze, showing no sign of waking up.
"Xiao Dong, we're best friends. You have no idea how heartbroken I am to see you like this." Shen Huai'an's face no longer showed the pain from before, but a smile of extreme relief and disillusionment. The corners of his lips curled up in a strange arc, as if he had completely escaped from that gentle exterior.
He walked gracefully to the bedside, slowly leaning down to stare at Xie Xiaodong on the bed. His dark eyes were terrifying and unsettling, his pupils slightly constricted, and his gentle mask shattered completely. He was a completely different person from Shen Huai'an, who had just been in great pain, immersed in grief and constantly blaming himself.
“My best friend, you clearly had a better path to choose from, but you chose this one.”
“We’re best friends,” Shen Huai’an said with a smile as she bent down to tuck him in.
Only a few of them knew exactly what had happened, how Xiao Dong was injured, and how he ended up lying here. Shen Huai'an knew all of this perfectly well.
Four hours ago, it was still that suburb.
The rain was getting heavier, and they parked their car in the open space. Shen Huai'an got out of the car and quietly smoked, waiting for something.
Finally, he saw Xie Xiaodong coming over. Shen Huai'an stood up straight without changing his expression and walked to the car.
He sat in the driver's seat, while Zheng Hu and Assistant Qin stood outside. He saw Xie Xiaodong being driven over.
That small truck was the same one they encountered when they first arrived. The truck almost hit Shen Huai'an, but Shen Huai'an escaped being hit.
The car drove up with its hazard lights flashing and finally stopped in front of Shen Huai'an and his group's car.
When Xie Xiaodong saw Shen Huai'an's car parked in the open space by the roadside, he quickly got out of the car.
He was surprised that Shen Huai'an and the others were unharmed, and Xie Xiaodong felt a strange, indescribable feeling when he saw them.
"Huai'an, why is your car parked here?"
Zheng Hu and his assistant Qin looked at him coldly, as if they were deaf, and did not answer him.
He noticed a lot of problems at that moment. He got out of the car, and the small truck behind him involuntarily backed up.
Xie Xiaodong never expected to run into Shen Huai'an here.
How could he explain this truck and his situation? After getting out of the truck, Xie Xiaodong kept thinking of all sorts of reasons and excuses.
Shen Huai'an stared coldly at Xie Xiaodong through the windshield, then slowly pressed his foot on the accelerator.
The car engine made a tearing sound, and Shen Huai'an slammed on the accelerator. The car seemed to go out of control and rushed towards Xie Xiaodong.
Xie Xiaodong's eyes widened. He didn't care about anything else and took off running. How could two legs outrun four wheels?
Shen Huai'an floored the accelerator without hesitation, his eyes filled with excitement. The car didn't slow down at all, and then there was a loud "bang".
The car knocked Xie Xiaodong several meters away. He landed heavily on the muddy ground, rolled around once, and finally stopped. He lay there in the mud, his white clothes filthy.
Xie Xiaodong stared in disbelief at the car that had hit him and sent him flying. He couldn't help coughing, spitting out blood and saliva. The rain washed away the blood he coughed up again and again. The heavy rain fell heavily, and the cold rain hit his face with the wind. He lay there in the mud, his eyes wide open, staring at the car.
He recognized the license plate; he wouldn't mistake it—it was Shen Huai'an's car.
After the car stopped, the door slowly opened, and Shen Huai'an slowly got out of the car. He stood straight, and Assistant Qin held an umbrella for him beside him.
"Xiao Dong, I'm sorry. You know my legs aren't very good, and I mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake."
Shen Er walked over with a smile, his hands in his pockets, looking down at Xie Xiaodong at his feet. His smile was unusually arrogant and deliberate. He said sorry, but his expression showed no remorse at all.
He stood ramrod straight, not at all like someone with a leg disability. His eyes were exceptionally cold, colder than the rain, and his smiling gaze sent chills down one's spine.
Shen Huai'an looked up and laughed, saying, "I don't know what happened. The brakes were working fine, how could they suddenly fail? I really stepped on the brake just now, but for some reason, it just wouldn't work. In my panic, I stepped on the gas instead."
"Xiao Dong, I'm sorry, you won't blame me, will you?"
Shen Huai'an looked at him with contempt and disdain, "After all, Xiao Dong, you are so generous and understanding."
Xie Xiaodong's face was deathly pale, almost frightening. He had been hit by a car and thrown into the air; his ribs were broken, and every breath was painful.
"My brakes failed, that's why I accidentally bumped into you. I don't know what happened, how could the brakes suddenly fail when the car was perfectly fine? Xiao Dong, we're friends, you'll forgive me, right?"
Shen Huai'an asked Xie Xiaodong with a smile, as if he were asking a question, but also as if he was deliberately trying to embarrass Xie Xiaodong. His tone was so innocent, as if he was earnestly begging Xie Xiaodong for forgiveness.
