Lin Wanxing smiled and linked arms with Shen Huai'an; his smile was always so sweet.
When the two of them arrived at the Chen family home, returning to the home where they had lived for more than twenty years, Lin Wanxing felt no attachment whatsoever.
On the day of the banquet, when Shen Huai'an asked him if he wanted to stay by his side, he was overjoyed, because it meant that he was finally free from this cage and had finally escaped this place full of pain.
Lin Wanxing stood at the entrance of the villa, looking up at the attic.
"Second Brother, I live right there!" Lin Wanxing pointed to the top of the villa.
Shen Huai'an looked up and saw the bright second floor. "You live on the second floor?"
"No, they live in the attic up there."
Shen Huai'an looked up again, and this time his feelings became complicated, because he did not see the so-called attic.
Why would he live in a small attic when there are so many rooms in a detached villa?
Lin Wanxing had a bright smile on his face. He casually said to Shen Huai'an, "Auntie said that my illness requires quiet rest. The attic is quiet and I won't be disturbed, so I stayed there. Auntie's advice about quiet rest is really effective. My illness has really improved a lot."
Ostensibly, he was supposed to be recuperating, but in reality, he was locked up in the attic.
Shen Huai'an could only sigh that the little fool was too naive, actually believing that others were genuinely concerned for him.
After the two entered the villa, Lin Wanxing looked around cautiously.
When the nanny, Aunt Liu, saw Lin Wanxing, she said with displeasure, "Why are you back?"
Although she was a nanny, her attitude towards Lin Wanxing was not like that of a nanny in this family, but rather like that of the master of the house.
Shen Huai'an glanced at Liu Ma casually, then pulled the little fool to his side and said, "That's how it is. The star comes back to take away what belongs to him."
When Liu Ma saw the people following behind Lin Wanxing, she impatiently glanced at Shen Huai'an from head to toe.
She looked down on Lin Wanxing, and even disliked Shen Huai'an, who was by his side.
However, judging from Shen Huai'an's clothes and appearance, Aunt Liu knew that he was no ordinary person, so she was still quite polite to him.
"I see. Then please follow me."
Xu Feng was sitting on the sofa, playing with a newly adopted Teddy dog. When she saw Lin Wanxing suddenly appear, she immediately put the dog down. Just as she was about to start cursing, she suddenly deflated when she saw Shen Huai'an.
"Wanxing, what brings you home today?" Xu Feng's expression changed in an instant. Just a moment ago she was full of arrogance, but in the blink of an eye her face changed as quickly as turning the pages of a book. She smiled and asked Lin Wanxing in a very gentle voice.
Lin Wanxing felt panicked whenever he saw Xu Feng like this. The gentler Xu Feng spoke to him, the more afraid he became.
He instinctively retreated behind Shen Huai'an, shrinking back and cautiously saying, "Auntie, I...I..."
Lin Wanxing was so frightened when he saw Xu Feng that he could barely speak. He stammered for a long time without being able to clearly explain what he wanted to do.
Xu Feng felt disgusted when she saw his silly behavior. She thought Lin Wanxing was deliberately going against her. He was the same way at the last banquet, making everyone think she was a wicked stepmother.
“Wanxing, how come you’ve forgotten about this family since you went to the Shen family? You haven’t come back for so long. Do you know that your father misses you every day? Even your sister keeps asking when you’ll come back.”
She smiled gently and continued, "Even though you're married, you can't completely forget about this family."
Xu Feng is a typical smiling tiger. Her words are always veiled with barbs. She said that Lin Wanxing is cold-blooded and disregards family ties, and that he forgot his roots after going to the Shen family.
Lin Wanxing stammered and couldn't say anything.
Shen Huai'an smiled and said with a smile, "Madam Chen, Xingxing and I came today to retrieve his mother's belongings. Please return them to us."
“Yes… Auntie… I want to… take my mother’s belongings.” Lin Wanxing hid half of her body behind Shen Huai’an, only showing half of her face, like a child hiding behind an adult.
Xu Feng never expected that Lin Wanxing would come back for this kind of thing. All the things left behind by that stupid woman Lin Ruoyu back then had been thrown away by her.
This includes several letters left by Lin Ruoyu and a cell phone containing evidence of her affair with Chen Shuhua, which of course cannot be kept.
Lin Ruoyu died, but she left behind a diamond necklace. That diamond necklace was incredibly sparkly and very valuable. It was a dowry given to her by the Lin family patriarch when she married Chen Shuhua.
Xu Feng could distinguish between treasures and trash. Seeing that the diamond necklace was extraordinary, she immediately became greedy and took it off.
Now that Xu Feng has embezzled the necklace, how could she possibly hand it over? Relics like that were lost long ago.
Xu Feng rolled her eyes. The reason she had lied to Lin Wanxing that she would give him his mother's belongings after Xueping got married was because she wanted Lin Wanxing to obediently agree to switch the engagement with Xueping.
So many years have passed in the blink of an eye. Shen Er is long gone, and Xue Ping is about to marry into the Fang family and become their young mistress.
Xu Feng could not possibly keep her promise. She glanced at Shen Huai'an and said with a smile, "Wanxing, it's not that your aunt is breaking her promise, but your mother really didn't leave any belongings."
"Back then, she chose to end her life in a fit of anger, and she left before she could leave anything behind. The reason I said this is to comfort you and leave you with something to remember her by."
Xu Feng looked at Lin Wanxing with heartache in her eyes. She seemed to be very sad when the past was brought up again. She pursed her lips and sighed, "Wanxing, don't blame Auntie. Auntie told you this lie because you were so sick."
