The smell of alcohol emanating from He Yaonian wafted into Ming Dai's nose, and she looked at the imposing man in his suit with a pounding heart.
"Third Uncle, what are you talking about? When have I ever been a liar?"
Mingdai was puzzled and tilted her head to ask He Yaonian.
"Did I lie to you?"
Recalling her recent interactions with He Yaonian, she probably hadn't agreed to anything for him, right?
He Yaonian took another step closer, his tall figure completely blocking out the light, and Mingdai unconsciously gripped the railing tightly with both hands.
"Third Uncle, what's wrong?"
Did He Yaonian drink too much and make a mistake?
Where did you go tonight?
He Yaonian lowered his eyes and stared at Ming Dai, his gaze fierce and menacing, as if waves were churning beneath his deep black eyes.
Mingdai couldn't figure out what made him so dangerous.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "I had a meal with my parents."
"Where did you eat? Who else was there?"
They were too close to each other, which wouldn't offend each other, but this was He Yaonian's study. Mingdai had brought coffee but was now stuck here. No matter how you looked at it, something didn't seem right.
"And Mo Tingchuan."
After Mingdai finished speaking, she realized something.
Could it be that He Yaonian saw her having dinner with Mo Tingchuan and her parents?
Even so, is there any problem?
"What did you talk about?"
He Yaonian stared intently at Mingdai.
Mingdai was surprised and hesitated for a moment.
"Third Uncle, why are you asking this?"
What they talked about isn't her private matter, is it? Why would He Yaonian care about that?
He Yaonian's expression was unreadable. He had drunk alcohol, but it didn't affect his face. On the contrary, his handsome face was even paler than usual.
He Yaonian is the kind of man with very fair skin, but he doesn't have the look of a pretty boy. Although he is handsome, he is full of masculinity, elegant yet aggressive, noble and aloof, and unapproachable.
He Yaonian slowly shifted his gaze away from Mingdai's puzzled expression, finally no longer looking at her like a cheetah staring at its prey.
He looked up and gazed into the distance.
Mingdai silently turned around and faced the evening breeze.
The manor was ridiculously large, stretching as far as the eye could see.
The distant landscape is lush and green, and the birds are still awake at night, chirping occasionally in the woods.
A breeze brushed against Mingdai's cheek, and He Yaonian's silence made her seem to suddenly understand something.
"Is Uncle having dinner at that restaurant tonight?"
He Yaonian's face was half hidden in the night, and Ming Dai could only see his exceptionally handsome and high-bridged nose when she glanced to the side.
"Did Third Uncle hear something?"
He Yaonian glanced at Ming Dai with a detached expression.
Mingdai continued to guess, yet it seemed she already had the answer.
She chuckled and said, "Did Uncle think that my statement about divorcing Mo Tingchuan was just a momentary impulse?"
He Yaonian's throat bobbed slightly.
After a long while, he finally gave a faint hum.
"Everyone talks about lovesick men and women. Feelings are not something you can just let go of in a short time. You insisted on marrying Mo Tingchuan back then, so it's only natural that you can't bear to get a divorce now."
Mingdai's almond-shaped eyes widened in curiosity.
"How did Third Uncle know that I was determined to marry Mo Tingchuan back then?"
Mingdai wondered, with He Yaonian's extraordinary abilities, what couldn't he know?
It's possible that while investigating Mo Tingchuan's assets, she had already taken the opportunity to learn about the beginning of her marriage with Mo Tingchuan.
"That's absolutely right."
Mingdai's frank admission shows that some mistakes must be faced, and there is no point in simply running away from them.
He Yaonian turned his head away, his gaze unfathomable. Mingdai couldn't understand it, yet she felt that he was pitying her.
The two weren't very close, and it wouldn't be appropriate for them to confide in each other.
But He Yaonian always gave her the gentle illusion that he was willing to listen as long as she spoke.
"Uncle, please don't laugh at me. I really did fall in love with Mo Tingchuan at first sight."
No matter how her marriage failed, at least she has a clear conscience about the journey she has taken.
My feelings of liking Mo Tingchuan back then were genuine, and my current feelings of disappointment and disgust towards him are also genuine.
He Yaonian pursed his lips, his jaw tightened, and turned his gaze away without uttering a sound.
Mingdai considered him someone who shouldn't interrupt.
"Tonight's dinner was arranged by Mo Tingchuan. I didn't know beforehand. That night, Qin Weiwei's attempt to frame me failed, but it exposed the fact that our marriage was only in name. My parents were very worried after hearing about it from a friend. Mo Tingchuan didn't want his reputation to be damaged, so he tried his best to salvage the relationship."
Mingdai looked at He Yaonian.
"What else did Third Uncle hear?"
The chilling aura emanating from He Yaonian had largely dissipated.
"It seems your parents mentioned the child."
Mingdai: "..."
She was genuinely surprised.
"Third Uncle, how did you know? Were you at the door at the time?"
He Yao coughed lightly.
"I didn't overhear on purpose; it was just a chance encounter."
He told Mingdai, "It seems like the door to your private room has been open the whole time."
Mingdai recalled it for a moment, but she didn't pay much attention to it.
She knew that Mo Tingchuan had gone out once or twice during that time, and if the door wasn't closed, it was Mo Tingchuan's intention to do so.
Mo Tingchuan...
Mingdai stared at He Yaonian in astonishment.
"Does Third Uncle mean that Mo Tingchuan did this on purpose?"
No wonder Mo Tingchuan chose that restaurant; she thought he really wanted to impress her parents.
"That's not right, how did he know you were at that restaurant too?"
Or perhaps it was just a coincidence?
He Yaonian raised his wrist to check the time.
"Just don't repeat the same mistake. I'm afraid that while you're thinking about divorce, you'll also be completely fooled by Mo Tingchuan and let him do whatever he wants."
