The following afternoon, Mingdai was invited to attend a business event, and Mo Tingchuan was also among the attendees.
But when Mingdai arrived at the scene, she found that Mo Tingchuan had not come.
She didn't want to know why Mo Tingchuan hadn't come. She straightened her dress and slowly entered the venue alone.
Today's event was large-scale and star-studded; Mingdai noticed several popular celebrities accompanying the wealthy businessman.
There were also many unfamiliar faces in the crowd.
Mingdai didn't pay much attention, ordered a glass of champagne from the waiter, and went to chat with some friends she knew.
Why didn't Mo Tingchuan come?
After exchanging pleasantries for a while, some people couldn't contain themselves.
"Yes, you two usually participate in these kinds of events together, so why haven't we seen him today?"
In the past, such activities required Mingdai to be adept at navigating social circles among wealthy women, while Mo Tingchuan would often socialize with men.
The couple moved around the crowd with ease, attracting the envy of many.
There are those who envy, and naturally, there are those who are sour.
Here comes the one who was just waiting to see Mingdai make a fool of herself.
"I heard you two had a fight recently, are you alright?"
"I remember you were the one who pursued Mo Tingchuan, Mingdai, right?"
Mingdai swirled the champagne in her glass without changing her expression.
She glanced at the women who were staring at her with a half-smile.
The wealthy women were all adorned with jewels, but people are still different.
For example, some people have no interest in other people's private lives at all, don't even want to listen to gossip, and simply withdraw from the conversation.
Some, wanting to hear but afraid of losing face, could only secretly drink champagne to cover their embarrassment.
The rest are simply people who genuinely thrive on chaos.
"He just couldn't come because of something, what are you all doing? You'd love for me to break up with him, wouldn't you?"
While others might secretly want to mock someone but dare not be too direct, Mingdai was much more frank.
She took a small sip of champagne.
Her almond-shaped eyes were bright and smiling.
"Mrs. Liao, I remember Mr. Liao was rumored to be having an affair with a minor celebrity about two weeks ago. The photos were quite erotic, but I don't know if they're true or false."
Mrs. Liao was immediately filled with shame.
Mingdai smiled gently.
“Mrs. Wang, your brother is a good-for-nothing who has racked up huge gambling debts. He wants Mr. Wang to pay them off, and Mr. Wang has complained to Mo Tingchuan quite a bit about it.”
Mrs. Wang blushed.
Mingdai looked at Mrs. Lin.
Mrs. Lin gripped her cup tightly, too nervous to look Mingdai in the eye for a moment.
But the way she was winking and making faces at Mingdai just now was incredibly arrogant and self-important.
"Mrs. Lin, I suggest that your cousin stop staying at your house. Mr. Lin seems quite interested."
In the past, Mingdai would usually keep quiet and endure humiliation for the sake of Mo Tingchuan's career.
But now she has no worries.
She even smiled at the ladies who were utterly shocked by what they'd just heard.
"I heard it from Mo Tingchuan. The gossip among men is much more widespread and sensational than that among women."
Mo Tingchuan, this is your reward for not coming.
After successfully making the ladies who were there to laugh at her end up shooting themselves in the foot, Mingdai leisurely found a seat and sat down, tilting her head to watch the lively scene of people clinking glasses and moving figures in the hall.
Once upon a time, she was one of these people.
Unfortunately, in just three short years, everything has changed.
"Mrs. Mo?"
A very young man came over with a glass of red wine, specifically looking for Mingdai.
Mingdai withdrew her gaze and sized up the man.
After confirming that she didn't know him, she smiled politely.
"Hello."
The man smiled amicably and introduced himself.
"I am Mo Qingying's friend."
Mingdai raised an eyebrow.
This man was dressed head to toe in designer brands, and was fairly handsome; his mannerisms and demeanor fit the stereotypical image of a spoiled rich kid.
I remembered that the rich lady had mentioned that Mo Qingying had recently been associating with a wealthy second-generation heir.
"Oh, so you're Qingying's friend. Hello, hello."
Mingdai reached out her hand.
The man smiled and gently shook her hand, then sat down next to Mingdai.
Mingdai glanced at him sideways but didn't say anything.
The man's intentions were obvious; he hadn't been sitting for more than a few minutes.
"Mrs. Mo, I've heard that Qingying has a close relationship with the He family?"
So that's what they came for.
"Yeah?"
Mingdai looked completely bewildered.
The man frowned, carefully examining Mingdai's expression.
"Mrs. Mo doesn't know?"
Mingdai slowly shook her head. "I really don't know."
She asked, "Which He family are you referring to?"
The man's face turned ugly.
"The He family, one of the most prestigious and wealthy families."
Mingdai was surprised, "We are just from an ordinary family, how could we possibly have the opportunity to meet the top families of the wealthy and powerful?"
"Mrs. Mo, you can't joke with me like that. I know you always mean what you say."
Oh, you even inquired about her?
"Perhaps Qingying got involved with the He family through some means, but I have no idea about that."
Mingdai said helplessly, "I'm sorry, I really don't know. I'm sorry to disappoint you."
Not long after the man left, Mo Tingchuan rushed over.
"I'm sorry I'm late."
Mo Tingchuan looked annoyed. "Don't be angry."
Mingdai didn't bother to look at him.
It doesn't matter whether you come or not.
Mingdai shrugged and downed the champagne in her glass in one gulp.
"I've finished the first half; the second half is up to you."
He put down his wine glass, picked up his small bag, and was about to leave.
"where did you go?"
Mo Tingchuan grabbed Mingdai.
"I'm going to meet a few clients later, and they all want to meet you, so you can't leave."
