Mingdai was stunned.
He Yaonian's gaze gave her a real feeling that he wanted to devour her alive. Apart from the day they first met, she felt like she hadn't felt this way in a long time.
Mingdai snapped out of her daze, her heart pounding wildly. She instinctively shook her head, wanting to shake off this dangerous feeling as quickly as possible.
"How could that be?"
She forced a smile, and when she sat down on the sofa, she was more cautious than she was aware of.
Because she didn't dare to look up and meet He Yaonian's gaze again, she didn't see the hint of regret that flashed in He Yaonian's eyes.
He Yaonian was still too impatient.
He paused for a moment before handing the chopsticks to Mingdai.
"Have a meal."
Mingdai accepted the gift with both hands, and while expressing her gratitude, she secretly glanced at He Yaonian with her round almond-shaped eyes.
He Yaonian picked up his soup and took a sip to ease the tension.
"I'm quite hungry after a busy day."
After tasting the soup, he raised his eyebrows and nodded approvingly, "This soup is good."
Smiling, she pointed to the bowl of soup in Mingdai's hand, "Try it."
Seeing his gentle and approachable smile, Mingdai's inexplicable flutter in her heart quietly dissipated.
After finishing the meal, Ming's father was still asleep.
He Yaonian glanced at his watch; it was almost 8:30.
With no one else in the ward, Mingdai's gaze inevitably followed He Yaonian.
Seeing him look at his watch, she couldn't help but look over as well.
It was the same watch she had given him, perfectly complementing He Yaonian's powerful wrist.
Realizing it was getting late, He Yaonian was usually already busy in his study at this time.
"Third Uncle, thank you for today. I won't be going back tonight. You're quite busy, so you don't need to keep me company."
No matter how busy He Yaonian was, he couldn't possibly leave Mingdai alone here.
He said, "I'll have Xingqiong come over."
"No, no need."
Mingdai had witnessed He Xingqiong's workload firsthand; she was already exhausted during the day, so how could she possibly work overtime at night?
"Third Uncle, my mother will be here soon."
Mingdai lied.
Her mother went out of town on business and won't be back for another two days.
How could He Yaonian not tell whether Mingdai was lying or telling the truth?
But Mingdai didn't want to trouble him, and he didn't expose her directly.
"Okay, I'll be going now."
Although I wanted to stay and keep her company, my status wouldn't allow it.
Mingdai escorted He Yaonian to the door of the ward.
He Yaonian looked down at her.
Mingdai was clearly still recovering from the shock of her father's fainting; her face was pale, and her smile was forced.
She waved to He Yaonian.
Goodbye, Third Uncle.
He Yaonian couldn't help but ask, "Is your mother really coming?"
He hoped she would reveal her vulnerability and rely on him.
Mingdai grinned, her eyes hardening.
"Yes, I was afraid my mom would be nervous and scared if she found out, so I didn't tell her right away."
Mingdai thought that it was already very kind of He Yaonian to come in person and even buy her food to fill her stomach, so she couldn't trouble him any further.
He Yaonian had no choice but to nod and say, "Okay."
After seeing He Yaonian off, Mingdai returned to her father's bedside and silently stayed by his side.
She didn't plan to inform her mother who lived in another city.
Given how much the mother cares about the father, she will definitely be greatly affected.
Half an hour later, Ming's father woke up in a daze.
He found himself in the hospital, where his daughter was looking at him with concern.
Ming's father tried to reassure his daughter with a smile, "It's alright now."
Mingdai's eyes reddened as she held her father's hand.
She didn't want to cry, but her throat was choked with sobs, and the words that came out were all choked with emotion.
"Didn't I tell you not to overwork yourself? Do you still want to go on a trip with Mom?"
Ming's father couldn't bear to see his daughter shed tears.
She hurriedly got up, her hand, still receiving an IV drip, reaching out to wipe her daughter's tears.
"Why are you crying? Everything's alright."
Mingdai pushed her father back down.
She once again had the idea of taking over her father's company.
But she knew her father would never agree.
Although her health has improved significantly after years of recuperation, managing the company requires superhuman energy and physical strength.
She cannot meet either of these conditions.
Mingdai despised herself. Since her parents only gave birth to her, why couldn't God give her a healthy body?
It would be bad enough if she wasn't healthy, but to make matters worse, she misjudged the person, causing her parents to sacrifice their own health as well.
After lying down, Ming's father breathed slowly, his health clearly not what it used to be.
He looked around the ward and then asked Mingdai nervously.
"You didn't tell your mom, did you?"
My wife is still out of town; if she found out, she'd definitely rush back overnight.
The journey was arduous and filled with anxiety; this was too dangerous.
Mingdai shook her head. "No."
Ming's father breathed a sigh of relief.
Then he comforted his daughter.
"Today was an accident, you know. Dad has always been strong and healthy. Once I recover, I can still kill a cow."
But Ming's father knew in his heart that his heart was not as good as it used to be.
"Pfft!"
Mingdai deliberately laughed out loud.
She knew her dad was teasing her.
She also put her father's mind at ease.
"You're just bragging."
The father and daughter chatted for a few moments, joking around. Mingdai asked her father if he wanted to eat anything, but he shook his head, saying he had no appetite.
He Yaonian had ordered porridge earlier, and Mingdai heated it up in the microwave so her father could have some.
Ming's father fell asleep again.
At 11 o'clock, Mo Tingchuan called Mingdai.
Mingdai didn't answer.
Mo Tingchuan changed the message and asked who was with her at the hospital.
Mingdai did not reply.
Mo Tingchuan still went to the hospital.
But He Yaonian was one step ahead of him.
