She took a step forward, put her arms around Jiang Tingchen's waist, buried her face in his chest, and listened to his steady heartbeat.
"Tingchen..." She called out, her voice a little choked, but she couldn't say the rest.
Jiang Tingchen also hugged her tightly, holding her whole body in his arms, with his chin resting on the top of her head.
The only sounds in the garden were the music and their breathing. After a while, Ning Nanxue raised her head slightly, her pupils twinkling like stars, reflecting the candlelight and the night sky.
Jiang Tingchen lowered his head and kissed her lips.
The kiss was gentle, carrying comfort and promises, and gradually became intense and obsessive.
Late at night, Fu Chen tucked in the corners of the quilt for Xu Zhiru and looked at her profile with her eyes closed.
Her breathing was even and her eyelashes were drooping, as if she was sleeping soundly.
Fu Chen stood by the bed for a moment before turning around, moving as quietly as possible, leaving the bedroom and entering the study next door.
There was only one lamp on in the study, and the light was dim. Fu Chen walked to the desk and sat down, taking out an old mobile phone from the drawer.
The screen lit up, but he didn't unlock it. He just stared at the lock screen wallpaper - it was a photo he had taken a long time ago, before he and Ning Nanxue divorced, when she was out having fun. In the photo, Ning Nanxue was smiling warmly, her eyes curved, filled with love for him.
"Why didn't I know how good you were at that time?"
As his fingertips slid across the cold screen, Fu Chen couldn't describe the feeling in his heart, which was sour, blocked, and a little stinging.
He slid open the screen and clicked into the album, which still contained many photos of Ning Nanxue. They were all collected from Ning Nanxue's social media platforms after he regretted his decision.
"Perhaps only at this time do I have the chance to think about you alone." Fu Chen sighed, moved the phone closer, and kissed it gently.
In the bedroom, Xu Zhiru couldn't sleep at all.
She could feel the mattress moving when Fu Chen stood up, hear his deliberately light footsteps, and the sound of the study door being gently closed.
In the darkness, she opened her eyes, and there was no trace of sleepiness in her eyes.
Fu Chen was still thinking about Ning Nanxue, and she knew it very well.
He would occasionally get distracted, the tone of voice he used when he mentioned certain things in the past, and his special attention to news from Ning Nanxue...everything was made clear.
She really wanted to rush into the study to question him and have a huge argument with him.
But she can't.
In desperation, she gritted her teeth, finally clutched the quilt tightly, pretending nothing had happened, and slowly fell asleep.
A hint of white appeared on the horizon, and then a soft golden-red light spread out, outlining the contours of the clouds and distant mountains.
The morning light shines through the floor-to-ceiling windows into the bedroom, bringing peace and quiet.
Ning Nanxue's eyelashes moved and she opened her eyes.
Jiang Tingchen was still sleeping beside him, breathing evenly, his profile soft in the morning light.
She tried to get up quietly, but felt a slight soreness in her waist. She stopped and a blush appeared on her face.
A few light red marks on the neck tell the story of last night.
She didn't rush to get out of bed. She looked at the sunrise outside the window. The light and shadow flowed, the colors changed, and every look was different.
She moved gently towards the window, but the tiny movement still woke up the person next to her.
Jiang Tingchen opened his eyes, his vision still a little hazy. Seeing that she woke up and was about to get up, he put his arm around her waist, his voice hoarse from having just woken up.
"Awake? Won't you sleep a little longer?" He glanced at her slightly tired face and the marks on her neck, and his tone was a little more apologetic. "Did I disturb you? I'm so sorry about last night..."
Ning Nanxue shook her head, turned around and snuggled into his arms again, her cheek against his warm chest, listening to his heartbeat.
"No," she said softly, contentedly, "I just don't want to miss the sunrise."
She raised her head and looked into his eyes: "Tingchen, it's so good now. It's so good that it makes me feel that I should seize every minute and every second and not waste any of it."
Jiang Tingchen felt warm in his heart and bent down to kiss her on the forehead.
He understood what she meant. After going through so much, the peace he had now was particularly rare.
He tightened his arms and hugged her tighter, nuzzling his chin into her hair. "Well, we'll have many more mornings like this, many more sunrises."
The two of them hugged each other and watched the sky outside the window change from golden red to transparent blue.
After a while, Jiang Tingchen lowered his head again and kissed her lips. The kiss was very gentle, full of cherishment and comfort, and it was a silent communication.
After watching the sunrise, the two got up and washed up.
While having breakfast, Ning Nanxue received a new email in her personal mailbox. It was sent by Secretary Chen about the latest developments of the Fu Group.
She opened the email, took a quick look, and frowned slightly.
"What's wrong?" Jiang Tingchen noticed her expression and handed her a cup of warm milk.
Ning Nanxue took a sip, put down her cup, and swiped her fingers across her tablet. "Secretary Chen said the Fu Corporation board of directors is in chaos. Several of the old directors are arguing, but there's no conclusion. Mr. Wen... is still the same as always. He clearly doesn't want to get involved and is just watching Fu Corporation rot."
She paused, as if everything was under control. "Fortunately, I had a backup plan for the Ning Corporation's project and didn't fully integrate it into the Fu Corporation's system. So, the impact wasn't significant, and it's still operating as usual."
"Where's Fu Chen?" Jiang Tingchen asked calmly.
"Him?" Ning Nanxue's finger paused on a line of text in the email. "The news says he didn't go to the company at all today. He didn't care about the commotion in the board meeting. This is a bit strange."
Jiang Tingchen wiped the corner of his mouth with a napkin and looked at Ning Nanxue: "After leaving Mrs. Li's party, I'm afraid he's also a mess."
"I can imagine it's a mess," Ning Nanxue looked up at him with clear eyes, "but he went through so much trouble, even getting involved with people like Martin, to get Fu Corporation back from me. Now that he has it, he's just going to let it fall apart? That's not like him. He's not the type to give up easily."
He looked at Ning Nanxue's thoughtful expression and then smiled. "Even if he wants to go back and clean up the mess now, it depends on whether he has the ability to do so. Also, whether there are people willing to trust him and help him. Who among those people on the board of directors is not an old fox? They can see clearly that if Fu Chen can sacrifice the company for him once, he can do it a second time."
Ning Nanxue listened quietly, what Jiang Tingchen said was indeed the truth.
In order to take back the Fu family, Fu Chen used every possible means, but the price he paid was losing the hearts of the people and his foundation.
"He's going to have to bear the consequences of what he's done," she whispered, her voice lacking any particular emotion. "But I don't think it's that simple. The more hopeless he is, the more likely he is to do something unimaginable."
"I understand your concerns." Jiang Tingchen held her hand. "We don't need to worry too much about what he does. The Fu family's affairs are basically settled, and he can't cause any big trouble. We just need to stabilize the Ning family and proceed according to the plan. As for Fu Chen, I will have people keep an eye on him and won't give him the chance to bother you again."
