Xu Zhiru finally made a sound. She took a breath, her voice barely registering, "Miss Su."
"Business matters are all about mutual benefit and mutual gain." She paused, as if weighing her words. "The Su family needs the Fu family's platform. They see Fu's future potential. At this stage, Fu's needs the Su family's financial support. It's that simple, clear and obvious."
She didn't look at Su Yao, but turned her head slightly and looked at Fu Chen. Her hand slid down his arm, wrapped around his fingers, and interlocked theirs.
"As for what I personally think and what I think, does it matter? As long as Ah Chen is fine, and the Fu family can stabilize and stand up again, it doesn't matter if I suffer a little injustice or others misunderstand me." Her voice became softer, with a hint of dependence that was not easy for others to detect.
He didn't like the feeling of being entangled by invisible threads, and he didn't like the fact that she always mixed her emotions with the safety of the Fu family.
He pulled his hand away, not violently, but clearly enough to convey his attitude.
Xu Zhiru's hand fell empty, and her fingertips felt even colder.
Her body swayed slightly, as if she was not standing steadily, and she subconsciously reached out to hold on to the mahogany sideboard next to her.
She opened her mouth and wanted to say something, but only a vague sound came out.
She covered her chest with one hand, frowned tightly, and slid down the edge of the cabinet little by little, finally falling on the cold floor.
"Zhiru?" Fu Chen's voice was a little surprised. He leaned down and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Xu Zhiru leaned against the table leg, her face frighteningly pale, a thin layer of cold sweat seeping out of her forehead, and her body trembling showed no signs of stopping.
"I feel dizzy and my chest feels stuffy..." Her voice was very soft and intermittent, with a heart-wrenching sense of weakness.
"It seems like the old problem has come back..." She reached out and weakly grabbed the leg of Fu Chen's trousers, "Ah Chen, I feel so uncomfortable."
Fu Chen frowned when he saw her like this.
The doctor's instructions and the scenes when she was ill in the past flashed through his mind one by one.
The little sense of responsibility that was left now weighed heavily on me.
He no longer hesitated, bent down and picked her up sideways.
"Secretary, prepare the car and go to the hospital."
He didn't even glance at Su Yao and Ning Nanxue, and hurriedly left the depressing office while holding Xu Zhiru.
Su Yao stood there, looking at the door that closed again, and curled her lips in disdain.
"Tsk, that's all you can do to play tricks on me." She muttered softly.
A few days later, in the intensive care unit of the city center hospital.
Mrs. Su, carrying bags of supplements and a perfectly concerned smile on her face, pushed open the door of the ward.
Fu Chen was sitting beside the bed, holding a fruit knife in his hand, clumsily peeling an apple.
Xu Zhiru was half lying on the bed, covered with a thin quilt. Her face still did not look good, with a sickly paleness.
"Mr. Fu," Mrs. Su greeted softly. "Oh, what happened to our Zhiru? She was fine, how could she become so seriously ill? I just heard about it two days ago and was shocked. I hurried over to take a look."
She placed the supplements one by one on the bedside table, her eyes shifting between Fu Chen and Xu Zhiru.
"Boss Fu is so thoughtful. Even though the company is so busy, he still comes here in person. This kind of thoughtfulness is rare, rare."
Fu Chen looked up when he heard the voice and put down the fruit knife and the half-peeled apple in his hand.
"Mrs. Su." He nodded in response.
Xu Zhiru also looked at Madam Su, her voice a little weak, with deliberate politeness: "Madam Su, thank you for coming all the way here. I just have some old ailments, it's nothing serious, sorry to bother you."
"Hey, you can't say that, Zhiru." Madam Su immediately raised her voice slightly, as if in a scolding tone, "How can this be a minor problem? I heard it's a relapse of depression. This can't be taken lightly. You must rest well and take good care of yourself."
As she spoke, she sat down on the chair beside the bed and turned her gaze to Fu Chen.
"Mr. Fu, you've been working hard too. Fu's company is at a critical juncture right now, with so many things to do. You have to worry about the company's major affairs, while also taking care of Zhiru's health. You're really exhausted both internally and externally."
Mrs. Su sighed, changed the subject, and naturally mentioned her daughter.
"Come to think of it, our Yaoyao is the same. This child is just stubborn."
"She's so young, and sometimes her actions and words are a little immature, and she doesn't quite understand the ways of the world." Mrs. Su smiled motherly as she continued, "She's completely focused on the project with the Fu Group. When she comes home, she talks about work every other day, and all she can think of is how she can help Mr. Fu and how to make the project go more smoothly."
As Mrs. Su spoke, she glanced at Fu Chen vaguely.
"Mr. Fu, has Yaoyao reported to you about the follow-up plans for your cooperation project with us? She recently came home and kept telling me that for the sake of Fu Group and to live up to your trust, Mr. Fu, she really didn't even care about eating or sleeping."
Mrs. Su paused, her tone full of a mother's heartache.
"As her elders, we see how hard she works. While we tell her not to work too hard, we're actually happy for her. She has the opportunity to work with someone like you, President Fu, and learn some skills, which will be of great benefit to her in the future."
She turned her gaze to Xu Zhiru lying on the hospital bed, her tone gentle.
"Mrs. Fu, just focus on recuperating and don't worry about anything else. At the company, we have President Fu in charge, and we have Yaoyao to assist us, so we're sure nothing will go wrong. Your most important task now is to take care of your health."
These words sounded comforting, but they also seemed to inadvertently add to Su Yao's "importance" in the Fu family.
Fu Chenmei immediately responded to Madam Su's words.
He picked up the warm towel on the bedside table and carefully wiped the thin layer of sweat from Xu Zhiru's forehead.
At this moment, Xu Zhiru grabbed his wrist. Her strength was not strong, but her determination was conveyed through her slightly cool fingertips.
"Ah Chen," she called him softly, with a hint of dependence and a hint of subtle anxiety, "I'm fine. Don't stay here all the time. There are so many things in the company waiting for you to take care of."
There was earnestness in her eyes, as well as a hint of stubbornness that others might not understand, a stubbornness that made her not want to be looked down upon by Madam Su.
Mrs. Su saw the interaction between the two people, and the smile on her face remained appropriate.
"Mrs. Fu is truly understanding and considerate of Mr. Fu. However, health is the most important thing; everything else is secondary."
She stood up slowly and gracefully.
