The hatred contained in that voice was so thick that it could not be dissolved. It was no longer a simple desire that could not be obtained, but was mixed with shame, anger and a kind of madness of being completely abandoned.
In her opinion, Jiang Tingchen's relentless approach was to trample on all her past kindness and so-called "efforts".
Seeing her daughter's expression of not crying until she saw the coffin, Su's mother felt the despair that had just been suppressed surge up again, and she shivered with cold.
She took a step forward and grabbed Su Yao's arm. The strength of her fingertips made Su Yao feel pain: "Regret? I don't care whether he will regret it or not! I only know that if you don't agree to his conditions, the Su family will be finished immediately! Your father is still in the hospital, and it's unclear whether he can wake up!"
"The company's account is out of money, and the bank is calling every day demanding payment. Those partners who used to be so friendly are now running away faster than rabbits! Do you really think you can hide all the tricks you've done forever?"
"I don't care!" Su Yao shook off her mother's hand with force. Her eyes were red, but she refused to let the tears flow down. "At worst, we'll all be finished together! If I don't live well, Ning Nanxue won't be able to be proud!" She became more and more excited as she spoke, as if Jiang Tingchen had done something unforgivable.
"What have you done for him?" Mother Su was so angry that her whole body was shaking, and her voice was raised. "All you did was push him further and further away! All you did was drag the entire Su family into the quagmire! Yaoyao, can you wake up a little! Now is not the time for you to act like a spoiled brat!"
"I'm throwing a tantrum?" Su Yao sneered briefly, her eyes full of sarcasm. "Mom, are you scared by Jiang Tingchen's words? Our Su family hasn't reached that point yet! As long as we go and beg those uncles..."
"No more requests!" Mother Su interrupted her sharply, her voice filled with tears and the determination of someone who had been forced into a desperate situation. "The conditions Jiang Tingchen offered are our only way to survive! Hold a press conference and apologize to Ning Nanxue, apologize to the Fu family, and apologize to everyone you've implicated! Then, in front of all the media, swear that you will never touch business again!"
Mother Su looked at her daughter's face twisted with anger, and felt the ferocity of her that was determined to destroy herself and the enemy, and her heart went cold.
After a long silence, Su Yao suddenly realized that her mother was telling the truth. No matter how unwilling or resentful she was, she could not change the fact that the Su family was already on the edge of a cliff.
"I understand. I will go and apologize." Su Yao got up and went back to her room. She locked the door before her mother could speak.
On the day of the apology press conference, Su Yao stood on the stage in a plain professional suit, looking very pale.
She lowered her head and began to read the script.
"...I have deeply reflected on my mistakes and am willing to bear all the consequences. To atone for my mistakes and to show my repentance..."
When she reached this point, her voice suddenly changed slightly, like a string stretched too tight, and emitted an almost inaudible tremolo.
A few sharp-eared reporters in the audience seemed to have noticed something and aimed their cameras more accurately.
Su Yao's eyes were still empty, but the corners of her mouth moved up uncontrollably.
It formed an extremely strange arc. It was not a smile, but more like an expression of extreme ridicule and despair intertwined.
She paused, not making a sound for several seconds. The press room was eerily quiet, with only the sound of shutter clicks echoing.
Su's mother was watching with fear, fearing that her daughter would do something weird at this critical moment. She nervously took half a step forward, wanting to remind Su Yao.
At this moment, Su Yao suddenly uttered a very light sneer. The laugh was very short and could be easily overlooked if one did not listen carefully. But in this quiet occasion, it seemed particularly abrupt.
The last ray of light in her eyes was completely extinguished, leaving only endless emptiness and an almost crazy calmness.
"I, Su Yao," she spoke again, her voice even flatter than before, but with a chilling calmness, "I solemnly promise that I will never again get involved in the areas of Fu Group, Ning Group, and Huayun Group."
She squeezed out the last few words from between her teeth, almost one by one, and each word was filled with a cold chill.
As soon as she finished speaking, the strange sneer on her face suddenly widened, but her eyes remained frighteningly empty.
She seemed unable to hold on any longer and her body shook violently. If Su's mother had not quickly supported her, she would have collapsed on the spot.
"That's all for today's press conference! Thank you everyone!"
Su's mother's voice was a little flustered. She half-dragged and half-carried the almost unconscious Su Yao, and hurriedly left the press conference room under the escort of security guards, leaving behind a group of reporters who looked at each other in confusion, still unsatisfied.
"Did she just laugh?"
"It seems so...that expression, wow, it's absolutely amazing."
"It seems that the eldest lady of the Su family is not convinced."
"What can I do if I'm not convinced? The Jiang family and the Fu family have joined forces, what can her Su family do?"
"Never get involved in business... This is more painful for Su Yao than killing her, right?"
The reporters were talking about it, but their cameras did not stop, chasing Su Yao's embarrassed back.
This drama of feuds between wealthy families is obviously not over yet.
In the room, Su Yao had a severe headache. When she woke up, she was still confused, as if she had lost her memory after drinking too much.
She struggled to sit up. She was still wearing the same outfit she wore at the press conference. After wearing it all night, it was wrinkled and stuck to her sweaty skin, making her feel cold and uncomfortable.
The scenes from the press conference flashed through her mind in a chaotic manner, sometimes it was the flash lights, sometimes it was other people's whispers, and those eyes made her face burn when she thought about it now.
She pressed her temples hard, trying to drive those things out, but the more she thought about it, the more confused she became.
Her throat was dry and burning, and she whispered hoarsely, "Mom?"
No one answered.
She threw back the covers and got out of bed. Her feet were cold on the ground and her body felt a little dizzy.
The room was still the same as before she left, but something felt wrong.
After a long time, the door finally opened gently. Su's mother came in with a glass of water. Her face looked very bad, and the dark circles under her eyes could not be hidden. I don't know if she hadn't slept well in a few days.
Seeing Su Yao sitting by the bed, she put the cup of water on the bedside table, her voice hoarse: "Are you awake? Drink some water."
Su Yao didn't touch the glass of water. She raised her head, her eyes full of bloodshot, and looked straight at her mother: "Did you ask him to write that statement? What do you mean by never getting involved in the areas of Fu's, Ning's, and Huayun Group? Are you going to kick me out of the Su family? "
Su's mother sat down on the chair beside the bed, without looking into Su Yao's eyes, and sighed, as if she wanted to let out all the anger in her heart.
