Chapter 37
In the taxi, Lian Yu sniffed his cuffs.
The faint scent of soap wafted into Lian Yu's nose, slowing down his heartbeat a little.
Out of professional ethics as a "canary", Lian Yu took a shower before coming here. In order to prevent himself from sweating while squeezing into the subway, he gritted his teeth and took a taxi.
Fortunately, the journey was not long, and the taxi app sent him a new customer coupon, so he did not fall into the dilemma of not being able to pay the fare.
"We're here."
As soon as the rain stopped, the driver stepped on the accelerator and drove away.
Lian Yu quickly took a few steps back, raised his hand to block the dust, but accidentally tripped.
"Hey, you stepped on me."
Lian Yu hurriedly raised his head, but was stunned when he saw the building in front of him clearly.
In front of me was a two-story building with a red pointed roof. A faded plaque hung on the door:
Boai Orphanage.
Have we come to the wrong place?
"Hey, you stepped on me." A voice came from under Lian Yu. The child, who was missing two front teeth, was only just reaching Lian Yu's waist, but his expression was extremely mature. "You rude adult, don't you know how to say sorry?"
Lian Yu grabbed the child's shoulders.
"Little boy! Where on earth is this..."
"Teacher Qin, help! There are human traffickers here!"
The child screamed at the top of his lungs.
"What's wrong!"
A bright white figure hurriedly ran out of the church building.
After taking a closer look at Lian Yu, Qin Yi exhaled lightly and laughed, "You've put on quite a big show."
The young man was breathing slightly, and a strand of his sweat-soaked hair fell down and hung beside his cheek, which was slightly red from running.
"That's all because of you!"
Lian Yu stuttered a little, and he muttered softly:
"I thought..."
"Why?" Qin Yi smiled with eyes full of smiles.
"...I thought you hated children!" Lian Yu suddenly raised his voice and changed the subject abruptly.
"It's rude."
The child next to him suddenly patted Lian Yu's thigh and walked towards the church building like a little adult.
?
Lian Yu touched his thigh and a string of question marks popped up in his head.
"Why should I hate you?"
Qin Yi tilted his head and motioned Lian Yu to follow him.
"What a cute little kid."
Not really.
Lian Yu retorted in his heart.
He took a step with his long legs and caught up with Qin Yi in just two or three steps, walking shoulder to shoulder with him.
"You like children?"
Qin Yi's long eyelashes trembled suddenly, as if triggering some memories.
"Not really." Qin Yi smiled, but the curve of his lips revealed some bitterness, "It's just a little regretful."
"Regret?" Lian Yu tilted her head to look at him.
"Well, we won't be able to see our children anymore."
"Our...child?"
Lian Yu had more question marks on his forehead, and he reached out and touched Qin Yi's forehead.
"You have a fever? Why are you talking nonsense?"
As he spoke, Lian Yu bent down worriedly and met Qin Yi's gaze.
Qin Yi's vision trembled violently as if he was scalded.
"nothing."
Lian Yu raised his eyebrows noncommittally.
The two of them turned a corner and passed the corner of the small building, and their vision suddenly widened.
Balloons were tied up in the spacious garden, and a simple wooden table was placed in the middle of the garden. On the wooden table, caramel-colored cookies were neatly arranged on an iron plate.
Lian Yu inexplicably quickened his pace.
The closer he got, the clearer the fragrance became, like a small bud about to break through the soil. Lian Yu felt his heart itching.
A feeling flashed through his mind.
No sound, no picture, just a feeling.
Lian Yu impatiently picked up a cookie and stuffed it into his mouth.
The tip of the tongue was almost prepared.
"Chocolate beans?"
Lian Yu stopped chewing.
Qin Yi stared at him.
"Is this the flavor you want?"
Lian Yu quickly stuffed two cookies into his mouth, his cheeks puffing up like a hamster: "Delicious."
His voice was unclear. Seeing that Qin Yi was still staring at him, he looked back vigilantly.
"It should be okay for me to eat two more pieces, right?"
Qin Yi suddenly burst into laughter.
“Is it really that delicious?”
"certainly."
Lian Yu felt a lump in his throat and almost choked to death on the two cookies.
He pounded his chest vigorously and said, "I haven't eaten anything in the past two days. I'm starving."
"I didn't think it through."
Qin Yi curled his lips and took out a check from his Doraemon pocket.
Lian Yu reached out to take it, but Qin Yi suddenly pulled the check back.
“I only pay for what’s worth it.”
Qin Yi held the check between two fingers and shook it, raising his chin.
Lian Yu gritted his teeth and forced a stiff smile.
"Okay, Mr. Qin, ah——"
Qin Yi leaned over and took the cookie from his fingertips.
Lian Yu paused.
"?"
Qin Yi looked up at him.
Lian Yu shook his head and withdrew his hand as if he had been electrocuted.
He forced himself to ignore the electric current that shot up from his tailbone, and covered his somewhat panicked breathing with a nonchalant tone: "Nothing."
"Are you a couple?"
A tender child's voice was heard, and the old child who had previously "scolded" Lian Yu for being rude was seen standing under the knees of the two men, reaching out to pull at Qin Yi's hem.
"Teacher Qin, are you in a relationship with this person?"
"What? No, no, no..." Lian Yu waved his hands and was about to deny it.
Qin Yi patiently squatted down, held the child's arm, and asked with a smile: "What do you think?"
"I think so." The child scratched his hands, his eyes darting around Lian Yu's face. "Although this person is impolite, he's not bad looking, and he and Teacher Qin seem to be a good match. So I think you two are a couple."
Lian Yu almost laughed out loud.
He then squatted down and tapped the old kid on the forehead with his fingers: "You look mature, but why are your views on love so superficial?"
"But!" The child's face wrinkled and he twitched his nose in dissatisfaction: "Then what else can we look at if not the face?"
Lian Yu clicked his tongue and raised a finger and shook it:
"That's what you don't understand. Judging by appearance will definitely put you at a disadvantage."
"But you are like this." Qin Yi suddenly spoke.
"I?"
"Yeah, you don't remember."
Qin Yi folded his arms, rested his head on his knees, tilted his head and looked at Lian Yu, a sparkling smile in his eyes:
"Do you remember what you said to me when we first met?"
"Of course I remember! I..."
Lian Yu felt a little discouraged. He touched his cheek:
"If you remind me of a key word, I will definitely remember it!"
"real?"
Qin Yi looked at him, the sunlight could not penetrate his dark eyes.
Lian Yu suddenly found it difficult to understand Qin Yi's emotions.
"When we first met, you said you liked my eyes because they were a special color."
"color?"
Lian Yu leaned over and looked carefully into Qin Yi's dark eyes.
Qin Yi's eyelashes fluttered like a butterfly, and he looked a little nervous.
Lian Yu felt that he had seen through everything.
He narrowed his eyes. "Did I really say that?"
Qin nodded.
"My way of chatting people up is really unfashionable. Now let me ask you, what else did I say?"
"You still said..."
Qin Yi tilted his head, and the black hair on his forehead slid down along his brow bone, stinging his eyes. Qin Yi closed his eyes and tucked the broken hair behind his ear.
“I really like my hair.”
"Isn't it because the color is so special?" Lian Yu narrowed his eyes and tapped his elbow with his fingertips.
"Yeah." Qin Yi smiled absentmindedly.
"Hmph," Lian Yu slapped his thigh fiercely, revealing an expression of knowing everything: "Just say you're lying to me!"
"Yeah, I've been lying to you all along."
Qin Yi's tone was abnormally serious.
The continuous rain stopped.
So strange, what is this expression?
Lian Yu stared into Qin Yi's eyes and slowly stood up.
He wanted to ask Qin Yi about the hidden meaning in his words, but he couldn't help but ask himself, what qualifications did he have? He was just a canary kept by Qin Yi to pay off his debts. What qualifications did he have to ask the truth?
"That won't do."
The old child suddenly spoke up and pushed up the small glasses with cartoon patterns printed on them.
"Lying is a bad quality. Love built on lies will eventually break."
Lian Yu suddenly chuckled.
"How do you know so much?"
He rubbed the old child's head, but his eyes fell on Qin Yi: "But don't worry, Teacher Qin and I are not in a romantic relationship."
"So what's your relationship?"
"us……"
Lian Yu suddenly didn't know how to answer.
He looked at Qin Yi, but he just lowered his head. His wispy black bangs cast shadows, obscuring the emotions in his eyes.
"Maybe it's a friend." Lian Yu sounded unsure in his own voice.
"Xiaopeng."
Qin Yi suddenly put his hand on the old child's shoulder.
"It's getting late, we should go back and rest."
When the whistle sounded, I saw a teacher from the orphanage downstairs directing the children into the house.
Noticing Qin Yi's gaze, the teacher trotted over and took Xiaopeng's hand.
"Mr. Qin, Xiaopeng has caused you trouble."
The teacher smiled politely.
"Thank you so much for volunteering at our orphanage. I heard your wedding is the day after tomorrow..."
"It's getting late, you should take the children to rest."
Qin Yi interrupted the teacher.
The teacher seemed to realize his gaffe, covered his mouth with his hands, and quickly left with Xiaopeng.
Qin Yi looked inexplicably tired.
He pinched his brows and was about to say something when he was interrupted by a buzzing sound.
He took out his cell phone.
Because of the height difference, Lian Yu saw the first line of Qin Yi's message:
Last chance tonight at 8 o'clock...
Qin Yi flicked the screen to dark.
"It's almost time, go eat with me."
——
"Um, the day after tomorrow... do you have anything to do the day after tomorrow?"
Lian Yu finally asked the question the moment he entered the room.
Qin Yi turned around suddenly and stared at him.
Lian Yu felt a little nervous when he was stared at and couldn't help but take a step back.
He knew that Qin Yi's interruption at that time was too abnormal, and reason told him that he should not pry too much, but he still couldn't help asking.
"Are you concerned about me?" Qin Yi took a step forward.
"No, no."
Lian Yu took a step back, his back against the door. It was clear there was no way back, so he could only stammer in his rebuttal.
"I just thought that since you have something to do the day after tomorrow, I can rest---Hmm!"
The moment their lips touched, a familiar feeling flooded into Lian Yu's mind.
My heart is like a hot spring, and my emotions are surging.
Lian Yu's head began to hurt, as if something was about to break out of the ground.
This feeling frightened him.
While struggling, the two of them rolled on the bed.
The presidential suite was filled with the scent of exquisite incense. Lian Yu fell on the bed, and the soft silk sheets brushed against his cheek. He seized the opportunity and pushed Qin Yi away from his neck.
"Didn't you say you wanted to eat?" Lian Yu's breathing was a little rapid.
"Yeah, my dinner."
The cold fingertips fell on his waist and abdomen. Lian Yu instinctively tightened his waist muscles, but did not dodge.
With his current status, he had no reason and no qualifications to refuse.
Lian Yu closed his eyes and admitted defeat, but the person on him did not continue.
"Lian Yu, why did you break up with me in the first place?"
Lian Yu opened his eyes and looked back at Qin Yi in a daze.
"destiny."
This was the first word that came to his mind after hearing the question.
It was as if the moment he met Chen Yuan, a voice in his head told him, "This is your destined lover," and it was also as if from one day on, there had been a voice saying, "Break up with Qin Yi."
This is probably what fate is.
"Then do you want to fight for it?"
"What?" Lian Yu didn't understand for a moment.
Qin Yi looked at him with a calm expression. "Want to give it a try? Fight against fate?"
Lian Yu heard his heart beating so fast that it seemed like it was about to jump out of his throat.
He opened his mouth, but no word came out.
Suddenly, a shrill cell phone ringtone rang.
Lian Yu hurriedly pushed Qin Yi away and answered the phone. Chen Yuan's voice instantly penetrated the air and fell into the ears of the two people in the room.
"Xiaoyu, help! Come and help me!"
"What's wrong with you? What happened?"
"The thing... is, tsk... Anyway, just come quickly, come now!"
Lian Yu understood that this was probably just Chen Yuan's way of getting him back. But he still didn't dare to gamble. If Chen Yuan really had encountered something and he missed the best time to save him, that would be terrible.
He grabbed the coat that fell on the ground and said, "Where are you now? I'll be there right away..."
"Continuous rain."
Qin Yi stood by the bed and looked at him. A mother-of-pearl button on his collar was broken and no one knew where it had fallen.
"If you step out of this room now, our lives will be completely over."
Perhaps hearing Qin Yi's voice on the other end of the line, Chen Yuan suddenly burst into tears:
"Come here quickly, Xiaoyu! Hurry up!"
Time passed silently, the last bit of sunset glow disappeared from the gap in the windowsill, and the sky and the earth darkened.
"sorry."
Lian Yu turned and left.
