Chapter 43
The atmosphere was somewhat awkward. Lian Yu forced himself to raise the corners of his mouth and was about to explain, but he heard Li Xiangyu next to him suddenly howling.
"Wait a minute, I remember!"
Think about it, you are smart.
Lian Yu was so angry that he didn't care whether he was his senior brother or not. He glared at Li Xiangyu fiercely.
Li Xiangyu was completely oblivious. He slapped his thigh and pointed at Lian Yu: "Brother Qin, isn't this the classmate on your phone screensaver?"
Now, Qin Yi also started to glare at him.
The hand pointing at Lian Yu twitched, and Li Xiangyu scratched his forehead: "Uh, then I suddenly remembered that the boss seems to be giving birth. I'm leaving first!"
Now, only Lian Yu and Qin Yi were left in the office.
Qin Yi's hands, hidden under his sleeves, clenched unconsciously. He suppressed the curve of his lips and said coldly, "Do you know you are wrong?"
Lian Yu nodded like pounding garlic.
"What are you going to do next time?" Qin Yi stared into Lian Yu's eyes.
"There won't be a next time." Lian Yu took a step forward and stretched out his hand.
Qin Yi took a breath.
"Teacher Qin, can you please not fail me this time?" Lian Yu clasped his hands together in front of his forehead, almost kneeling down to Qin Yi. "Can you help me retake the exam? I'll definitely do it on time this time! Please!"
"Is this what you're talking about?"
Qin Yi's brows furrowed in confusion, his breathing quickening. He stared at Lian Yu, then for some reason chuckled to himself, as if he was so angry he had nothing to say.
Lian Yu took a step back, sensing something was wrong, and asked tentatively, "What else should I say?"
Qin Yi gritted his teeth and said, "If I forget, I forget. If I fail the course, I fail. There is no room for negotiation."
"Yes, yes!" Lian Yu's actions were faster than his brain could process. He quickly raised the application form on the table and said, "You need to find a team member, right? I can go!"
Qin Yi paused as he left and looked at him.
Lian Yu struck while the iron was hot. He stepped aside to block Qin Yi's way out, his expression sincere. "As long as Teacher Qin is willing to help me retake the exam, I can fill out this application form. Don't worry, I will control myself and only get 60 points to avoid failing. I won't harm the interests of other students!"
Qin Yi didn't say anything, and Lian Yu looked at Qin Yi expectantly.
Like some kind of silent struggle, Qin Yi finally gave in. He sighed, pulled a pen from his pocket and shoved it into Lian Yu's hand, saying uncomfortably, "I'll only give you five minutes."
"Thank you, Mom!" Lian Yu called affectionately, not caring about the mood of the person being called, and happily went to fill out the form.
Lian Yu quickly completed a form and signed his name at the end. Although Lian Yu looked lazy and unfocused, he was actually quite good at studying. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been admitted to one of the top two universities in China. He also had to thank Chu Tian for watching him practice calligraphy since he was young, which enabled this rebellious young man to write beautiful regular script with a contrasting sense of style.
Lian Yu pushed the form in front of Qin Yi and handed him a pen.
At the very end of the form, there is a recommender’s signature on the same line as Lian Yu’s signature.
In stark contrast to his appearance, Qin Yi's handwriting has a somewhat elegant cursive feel. If you had to say it, it's a bit like the "potato tower" shaped signature of a celebrity.
Qin Yi looked at the two signatures standing shoulder to shoulder, and somehow he became distracted.
Lian Yu blinked, then tentatively leaned forward. "By the way, Teacher Qin, what's your phone screensaver right now?"
"I know, it must be my dad, right?"
"It has nothing to do with you." Qin Yi pushed Lian Yu away against his chest and left quickly.
Where Lian Yu couldn't see, Qin Yi slowly held the application to join the team close to his heart. His heartbeat was as loud as a drum under the thin piece of paper.
"Senior Brother Qin."
Qin Yi suddenly came to his senses amidst the cautious shouting. He raised his hand and pressed his solar plexus, having been in a daze for far too long. He looked at Li Xiangyu, who had poked his head out of the door, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Ahem," Li Xiangyu cleared his throat seriously, then leaned close to Qin Yi and whispered, "Did you promise him?"
Qin Yi paused and nodded.
"Congratulations!" Li Xiangyu was so excited that he seemed to have suddenly fallen ill. He quickly grabbed a bench and sat down, chattering non-stop: "Although it is generally recommended to break up rather than reconcile nowadays, I think it would be a pity to break up just because of some harmless minor issues - By the way, Brother Qin, why did you break up?"
"You're asking this now?" Qin Yi held his forehead. "And you seem to have misunderstood something."
Li Xiangyu opened his mouth.
"You're just sitting here chatting about the progress. Do you have any discipline or ambition at all?!"
A serious and dull male voice sounded, and Li Xiangyu suddenly jumped up from the bench.
“Hello, teacher!”
The bald man adjusted his glasses and said nothing more. As the saying goes, one shouldn't hit someone who smiles at them, and besides, the purpose of his visit wasn't to lecture anyone. His small, slanted eyes narrowed behind his glasses and fell on Qin Yi.
Qin Yi stood up.
"You're very good. There's a girl from my old friend's family coming tonight. She's very good too. Go meet her. I've sent her the address on your phone. Remember to behave well."
It was obvious that he wanted to introduce someone to Qin Yi.
"teacher!"
The bald man had already turned around, but he only tilted his head slightly when he was called out: "What's wrong? Is there anything else?"
Qin Yi paused, and finally just shook his head: "No, thank you, teacher."
Li Xiangyu opened his mouth wide.
The bald man glanced at him lightly: "Why, you want it too."
"No, no, no, teacher," Li Xiangyu shook his head like a rattle. "My dad is infertile, my mom is allergic to men, my brother is a lesbian, my sister is a hardcore T, and my cat is a backcross! My genes are really not that good, so I won't bother others, haha."
After making sure the bald man had gone far away, Qin Yi organized his words: "...Is your family situation so complicated?"
Li Xiangyu smiled cheerfully: "Hehehe, actually I'm an orphan. I've never met my parents, and I don't have any sisters or brothers. The cat is a disabled kitten I picked up from a car accident. It's paralyzed from the waist down, so it's unlikely that it will be able to complete the breeding mission."
"……sorry."
"Oh, it's okay, don't worry about me. On the contrary, Brother Qin, are you really going?"
My phone vibrated with a message. It was the bald boss who had sent me the meeting address and time. There were only forty minutes left until the meeting time, and I didn't know if there would be traffic jams on the way due to the rush hour.
Qin Yi picked up his coat and said, "It's just a meeting, it's nothing serious."
"But--"
Before Li Xiangyu could call him, Qin Yi had already left. Li Xiangyu gritted his teeth and his eyes suddenly fell on the application form for joining the team on the table.
Li Xiangyu snapped his fingers.
"Yes."
——
"here!"
Zhou Fei sat in front of the barbecue stall and waved to Lian Yu.
Lian Yu had just sat down and the bench had not yet been pulled to a suitable position when Zhou Fei stuffed a handful of beef skewers into Lian Yu's hands.
The wind in early autumn brings some chill, but eating barbecued skewers at such a time has a unique flavor.
"I didn't expect you to actually accomplish this. You're awesome." Zhou Fei chewed the pork belly and picked up the opener to open the beer for Lian Yu.
"It almost didn't work out," Lian Yu held Zhou Fei's hand as he opened the beer, "I can't drink it yet. Since you knew the teaching assistant was Qin Yi, why didn't you tell me so I could prepare myself mentally."
Zhou Fei stopped chewing, then stretched his neck and swallowed the meat into his stomach.
"you do not know?"
"I... forgot."
"Really?" Zhou Fei raised his hand to check Lian Yu's forehead, a look of doubt on his face. "If you really forgot about him, how can you still remember me? You're lying to me, right?"
"Really not." Lian Yu pulled the hand off his forehead and stuffed a handful of meat skewers into it: "To be precise, I did lose my memory, but I only forgot things related to Qin Yi."
Lian Yu was telling the truth. After all, the original owner's memories included Chu Tian, Zhou Fei, and various events from college, but Qin Yi was nowhere to be found. Even the fact that Qin Yi was his ex-boyfriend was told to him by Tutu.
"Hey, you have a conscience and haven't forgotten your brothers." Zhou Fei felt a little elated for a moment. He took a big gulp of beer and smiled, revealing a row of snow-white teeth.
"Why did we break up in the first place?"
"Break up—" Zhou Fei choked on his wine. "Don't dwell on it. Just forget about the past. It's just right! Let's make a fresh start from now on, uh... start anew. Come, eat this skewer and I'll take you to a nice place."
Zhou Fei put his arms around Lian Yu and held her head in his arms. He whispered in her ear with an ambiguous smile:
"I promise you'll forget all your worries."
Lian Yu struggled to pull his head out: "Is this place... a decent place?"
The night was dim, with a few pale yellow lights being the only source of light. Shadows of people were dimly visible under the lights, swaying their bodies to the rhythm of the music.
Amid the explosive music, Lian Yu's lips twitched.
The woman in sportswear wiped the sweat off her face with a towel from her neck and shouted to Lian Yu, "Hey, this handsome guy is here to square dance too!"
"Dignified or not?" After two bottles of beer, Zhou Fei drunkenly patted Lian Yu's chest and said, "You're the one who said it was serious or not, and you're questioning me. Is your buddy the one who's not serious?"
Lian Yu forced a smile.
"Come on, let's dance." Zhou Fei pulled Lian Yu into the square dance team.
Unfortunately, Zhou Fei was not as strong as Lian Yu to begin with, and the gap in strength was even greater after he drank. He tried to pull the trigger several times but failed.
Zhou Fei seemed to be a regular here, and the dancing ladies and uncles all knew him. One of them smiled and joked, "I can see that your friend doesn't want to dance. Why make it difficult for him? Come, I have a task for you."
As he spoke, before Lian Yu could react, a red armband was pinned on his arm.
There were a few big yellow words printed on the red armband: Civilized Persuader.
After pinning on her armband, the old lady took a few steps back and looked at Lian Yu with satisfaction. Just looking at her wasn't enough; she snapped a photo and posted it to a group of her best friends.
"Look at this handsome guy, tall and strong, so reliable. This is the kind of son-in-law I should look for." After sending the voice message, the aunt patted Lian Yu's arm a few times and said, "Young man, if there are any spitting, smoking, fighting or swearing, please stop them. Please!"
Lian Yu's pupils trembled: "Wait——"
No one was waiting for him.
Lian Yu didn't even have time to retract his arm that was stretched out to stop the man.
Zhou Fei burped, hung the two bottles of beer that Lian Yu had packed but hadn't finished on his arm, and then swam into the square dance team like a fish.
Lian Yu sighed, held his forehead and sat down on the concrete block.
But before he could even sit down, he stood up again and walked quickly towards the old man who was lighting a cigarette at the end of the line: "Hey, no smoking here."
"Who would listen to you? You're a hairless kid and you're trying to get me to do what I want. I'll whip you if I want to, and it's none of your business—Hey, why are your thighs glowing? You're an alien spy, a US conspiracy!"
The pot-bellied old man stopped cursing and pointed at his trouser pockets which were shining with rain.
It was Lian Yu's cell phone ringing.
"Is that Lian classmate?"
As soon as the call was connected, the person on the other end spoke hurriedly. Lian Yu narrowed her eyes, thinking that the voice was somewhat familiar. It seemed to be the junior brother next to Qin Yi.
"I sent you the address, go check it out! Baldy is forcing Senior Brother Qin to go on a blind date, but I have a feeling Senior Brother Qin isn't particularly willing!"
Lian Yu instantly perked up.
Someone actually dared to destroy the relationship between the protagonist and the shou!
