Chapter 48

Chapter 48

What is this unfolding?

Feeling the heat that didn't belong to him where their bodies were tightly pressed together, Lian Yu looked at Bibi with concern, his hands not knowing where to put them. At this moment, Lian Yu's mind was a mess. He could have regarded all the previous little fights as Qin Yi's dependence on him, but now this posture...

Could it be that Qin Yi really still likes him a little?

Lian Yu heard his heart pounding, and he spoke with a trembling voice: "You——"

Qin Yi suddenly pulled away. He took a step back and looked at Lian Yu with a smile, "Don't worry, I just used you that day. Besides, this bottle of wine is for cooking. I just want to adjust the flavor. There won't be much alcohol left."

It's not about using you...it's about using you...using you...

Lian Yu’s brain froze.

He ate his meal absentmindedly. When Lian Yu nearly poked his chin with his chopsticks for the fifth time, Qin Yi put down his chopsticks and stood up: "I'll go upstairs first. You should also go to bed early."

Lian Yu held the chopsticks in his hand for a moment, then nodded blankly.

Qin Yi said nothing more and turned to go up the stairs. When he reached the corner where the stairs spiraled upwards, Qin Yi stopped and slowly turned around to look at Lian Yu who was staring at the dish downstairs in a daze, and the corners of his lips curled up.

So cute.

Lian Yu suddenly came to his senses. What on earth was he so disappointed about? He stabbed at the rice fiercely a few times, shoved a few mouthfuls with all his might, and muttered, "What's wrong with using me? I'm just helping you. It's not like I really like you..."

"Who do you like?" Chu Tian stood at the door, bending down to take off his shoes.

"Dad," Lian Yu was stunned for a moment, "Why are you back?"

"Didn't you ask me to come back early? You were so pushy back then, and now you're asking me back." Chu Tian casually hung his suit on the hook by the door when he suddenly noticed the wound on Lian Yu's forehead. The man's wrinkled brow furrowed, and he quickly stepped forward. "What's with that wound on your forehead? How did you get hurt?"

"Well, it's nothing serious." Lian Yu didn't move, and obediently let Chu Tian check his wound: "I accidentally injured it while playing football today. It's just wrapped in gauze and looks scary, but it doesn't hurt at all."

Chu Tian gritted his teeth and took a deep breath, his face full of regret but he couldn't bring himself to really scold him. In the end, he could only sigh: "You should be careful too. Why did you suddenly want to play football?"

"There's a football game next week and they don't have enough players, so they asked me to fill in the numbers."

"Just to make up the numbers, who can pull you?" Chu Tian narrowed his eyes.

Intuitively, something was wrong. Lian Yu quickly transformed into a filial son, massaging Chu Tian's shoulders and pushing him up the stairs. "Dad, have you eaten yet? If you have, go back and rest. I feel bad for you for working so hard every day."

"You're so sweet, do you really care about me?" Chu Tian cursed, but the smile in his eyes was almost overflowing: "Okay, okay, you eat yours, I'm going upstairs."

That’s right, let’s go up quickly. Lian Yu nodded like pounding garlic.

"By the way," Chu Tian suddenly turned around and looked at him: "Have you been studying well recently?"

Lian Yu's scalp tingled. He'd thought this feeling of oppression would fade with the end of his senior year, but he'd never imagined Chu Tian's words would give him goosebumps. Furthermore, he already felt guilty.

"Very, very good." Lian Yu blinked, her vision a little dizzy. "What's wrong?"

People can tell whether the puppy has caused trouble again today by looking at its expression. Anyway, when it shows this expression, it either destroys the house or rummages through the trash can.

Chu Tian raised an eyebrow: "Nothing, just a reminder that your internship is almost due this summer. Have you decided where to go?"

"Internship?" Lian Yu looked confused.

"I knew you didn't take it to heart. Since you have no idea, let me arrange it." After saying that, Chu Tian turned and went up the stairs.

Looking at Chu Tian's back, Lian Yu suddenly remembered something.

You must never mention to Qin Yi that it was he who asked Chu Tian to come back early. Qin Yi is so smart that he can definitely guess Lian Yu's original arrangement.

"Wait..." But as soon as the word "wait" came out of his mouth, Lian Yu hesitated. Even if he said it, what would happen? Even if Qin Yi knew, what would happen? Qin Yi had already said that he was just using him, so didn't that mean that Qin Yi no longer had any feelings for him? Then, what was there to be afraid of?

Thinking of this, Lian Yu shook his head, and then shook his head at Chu Tian who was looking at him on the stairs, and raised a considerate smile: "Nothing. Stepmother has gone upstairs, good night!"

——

The week-long training ended quickly, and in the blink of an eye it was time for the game. Everyone was there, waiting to go on the field.

Lian Yu clenched his fists and took a deep breath, only to feel his fingertips getting a little cold.

"Oh, it's okay. It's just a half-baked game. What if we lose? It's okay even if you lie down and fall asleep in the middle of the game." Zhou Fei noticed Lian Yu's nervousness and extended his arm, making a joke to liven up the atmosphere.

This was heard by the other team members and caused a great deal of laughter.

Suddenly, Qin Yi's crisp cough was heard.

Everyone fell silent, and after realizing something, they all looked towards the stands.

"Principal." Qin Yi stepped forward and bowed to the tall, middle-aged man who had walked down from the stands. The principal nodded slightly in response. Qin Yi quickly turned his gaze to the two people beside the principal: "Teacher Zhang...Mr. Chu."

Chu Tian nodded, his gaze lightly falling on Lian Yu in the team.

Lian Yu: “!”

Why was his dad here? It couldn't be because he'd casually mentioned the game earlier, right?

Chu Tian quickly looked away, as if he was just taking a casual look, making it impossible to find any flaws.

"Who is this guy?" Zhou Fei whispered beside Lian Yu. After all, from Chu Tian's extraordinary temperament alone, one can infer that he is not an ordinary person. Coupled with the principal's polite attitude, it is hard not to be curious about Chu Tian's identity.

While the original owner was a bit of a playboy, he kept a low profile. He never mentioned his family background to anyone, so even his best friend Zhou Fei didn't know he was actually a wealthy second-generation rich kid. Since the original owner didn't say anything, Lian Yu naturally couldn't tell anyone either. He could only laugh dryly and agree with Zhou Fei's gossip: "I don't know."

"Classmates," the principal suddenly cleared his throat and raised his voice: "This is Mr. Chu Tianchu from Kaiyuan Group."

"Chairman!? Forbes rankings!?" As soon as the principal finished speaking, he quickly searched for Chu Tian's Baidu information and exclaimed in surprise.

The principal waited patiently for the chatter to die down, then continued, "Mr. Chu attaches great importance to our match. If it goes well, Mr. Chu will support our school in making it a tradition. Don't take the match lightly, and perform well."

Zhou Fei, knowing he had said something wrong, rubbed the back of his head and nodded repeatedly in agreement: "Okay, okay."

"Okay, get ready to go on stage." The principal ended his short speech and went up to the stands with the remaining two, sitting in the front row of the bustling and crowded auditorium.

Lian Yu couldn't help but look at Chu Tian sitting there with a puzzled expression, and sent encrypted radio waves to Chu Tian with his eyes: Dad, why are you here?

Chu Tian raised his eyebrows.

? What does this mean.

Lian Yu's arm was suddenly bumped by someone. Wan Heyi stopped beside him, his expression showing disdain: "Mind your dog's mouth, it's embarrassing."

Lian Yu frowned.

After the conflict, even though everyone could see that he was deliberately targeting Lian Yu, Wan Heyi still insisted that Lian Yu's injury was just an accident and not intentional, and later apologized insincerely. Because the team was assembled so improvisationally and it was difficult to find a replacement, Wan Heyi was essentially spared any punishment.

Fortunately, Wan Heyi didn't cause any more trouble during the week of training that followed. Lian Yu had thought he'd been quiet, but now even Zhou Fei was implicated. For the first time, he felt the urge to crumple the little thing into a ball and kick it out of the sky.

Coach Gao was blowing the whistle to urge them to go on the court. Lian Yu gritted his teeth and started to jog.

The game quickly entered the second half. In the last five minutes, Lian Yu's team was still one goal behind the opponent. It would be difficult to turn the situation around at this time.

Yeah?

Lian Yu supported himself on his knees and breathed heavily. A drop of sweat rolled into his eyes, but he quickly wiped it away.

"No way," Zhou Fei was too tired to joke anymore. He frowned in pain, breathing heavily and complaining, "We're only two goals away from winning, but why is it so hard to score two goals? It's been 20 minutes, and I can't score a single goal."

"Try again." Lian Yu patted Zhou Fei's shoulder and stood up straight.

A pair of eyes that were usually gentle became sharp, and they bit the goal like a cheetah.

Another whistle blew, and Lian Yu broke into a run. The ball seemed to become one with him, never far from his toes. He dribbled it around opponents who kept running up to block him. Finally, he found his target and kicked it hard. The ball spun, barely glancing past the diving goalkeeper's fingertips, and it went safely into the net.

There was a burst of loud cheers from the audience.

Heat radiated from his collar, and sweat blurred his vision. Lian Yu wiped his face with the hem of his shirt, looking out at the figure cheering with the crowd. Qin Yi's eyes, glistening with tears, curved like a crescent moon in the sky, dancing slightly with the sound of the crowd.

Lian Yu suddenly thought of Qin Yi's screensaver. The small smile Qin Yi had returned in response to his apology. Those curved, smiling eyes, just like Qin Yi at that moment. This was the first time Lian Yu had seen such an expression on Qin Yi's face. It was finally no longer cold, heavy, or incomprehensible, a sadness.

He wanted to see more expressions like this.

Caught off guard, Qin Yi was stunned for a moment, his face flushed with embarrassment. He saw Qin Yi glance around for a moment, then gave him a thumbs-up, though he retracted it two seconds later.

"Come again!" Lian Yu suddenly shouted loudly to the audience.

The cheers were overwhelming in an instant. Everyone thought that Lian Yu asked them to cheer again, but Qin Yi's expression told Lian Yu that he understood what Lian Yu meant, and Lian Yu was going to score another goal for him.

Lian Yu started running again, his heart beating steadily amid the whistling wind.

"Fei!" Lian Yu shouted as he was about to be caught, sending the ball forward. Zhou Fei coordinated well with him, smoothly taking the ball and running towards the goal.

One more goal would turn the tie into a victory. In the final two minutes, not only Lian Yu's team, but also the opposing team, were on edge, determined not to let their painstaking efforts of over eighty minutes go to waste. The battle was as tense as ever.

Zhou Fei was also grabbed by someone. He kicked the ball out with all his might. The ball rolled rapidly and at the end of the path was Wan Heyi.

"Wan Heyi!" Zhou Fei shouted anxiously.

The ball was about to roll to his feet. Wan Heyi looked at Lian Yu and suddenly took a step back. The ball brushed past his toes and deviated from its direction.

Lian Yu suddenly widened his eyes.

"Fuck!" Lian Yu cursed softly and ran away suddenly.

In an instant, the football that had not yet stopped rolling became the target of everyone's fierce competition. The countdown had reached the last few seconds, and the outcome of the entire game depended on this football.

Suddenly, a powerful thigh gathered strength and kicked the football, which flew up and scored a goal.

Tick.

Finish at the last second.

The field fell into silence for a moment, and then everyone came back to their senses from the intense shock.

A tidal wave of cheers enveloped Lian Yu, but his gaze remained fixed on the figure sprinting towards him. He saw the thin Qin Yi pushing aside the towering football players, as if he were shoving through a thousand obstacles. Lian Yu opened his arms and caught Qin Yi firmly. Inertia caused Qin Yi to crash heavily into his chest.

Lian Yu heard his heart skip a beat.

"I won." Lian Yu smiled softly.

"That's great... Xiaoyu... That's great." Qin Yi buried his head in Lian Yu's chest, and his tears mixed with Lian Yu's sweat-soaked jersey.

Lian Yu felt a little embarrassed. He gently patted the back of Qin Yi's head and said, "I stink now."

"It doesn't stink at all!" Zhou Fei rushed over to join in the fun. He hung behind Lian Yu like a monkey: "Brother Yu, you are amazing, wuwuwu, why am I a straight man, wuwuwu."

"Hey hey hey wait wait wait!" Zhou Fei was, after all, an adult man of 1.8 meters tall and weighing over 100 pounds. Lian Yu was thrown off balance and fell backwards on his back.

Suddenly, he was supported by several hands.

A group of teammates cheered and lifted him up.

Lian Yu was so dry that he almost wanted to dig a hole in the ground to crawl into, but he also knew that his teammates were happy, so he didn't spoil the fun. Instead, he waited until everyone had had enough fun before patting a few people's arms and signaling them to let him down.

As soon as he landed, Wan Heyi came over with a dark face.

Everyone stopped laughing instantly. In the awkward silence, the team members took a few steps back, as if a plague god was standing in front of them.

Seeing this reaction, Wan Heyi's face darkened even further. He gritted his teeth and glared at Lian Yu fiercely, saying, "Stop showing off. That ball was originally mine. I gave it to you."

"Fuck you, do you have any shame?" someone shouted.

Before they could start arguing, they saw the principal and his group walking towards them. Everyone fell silent, and for a moment, the only sound was the sound of leather soles clacking on the ground.

"Yeah?"

Chu Tian's gaze paused for a moment on the tiny scar at the end of Lian Yu's eyebrow, then fell coldly on the end of Wan Heyi's eyebrow. Chu Tian narrowed his eyes and revealed a chilling smile.

"How about I pay it back to you on his behalf?"
