What is that pile of white stuff on the stove?
Meat? Where did the meat come from?
Just then, Granny Gu's gaze fell on a pile of chicken feathers behind the stove. She immediately jumped up as if she had been pricked by a steel needle, letting out a mournful wail as if she had lost her parents: "My darling Huahua!"
The chicken that lays the most eggs in the family, the one she loves most, is now meat on the chopping block.
"You slut, you slut, I'll tear your rotten mouth apart and make you pay for my speckled chicken's life!"
Old Mrs. Gu was filled with regret. She had smelled the aroma of cooking meat that morning and thought it was the Zhang family next door eating meat again. She even cursed under her breath. She never expected that it was her chickens that had suffered the consequences.
She raised all the chickens in the house; each one was her life.
They were devastated when their property was stolen and their beloved child was murdered.
Granny Gu was both anxious and angry. Her anger overwhelmed her, and all the fear that Song Liyun had instilled in her vanished.
At this moment, her back and legs no longer ached, and she suddenly became energetic and vigorous. Her face was contorted with rage, and she gritted her teeth as if she wanted to devour someone alive. Without asking for help, she pounced on Song Liyun.
Song Liyun did not fight back, but waved her arms in terror and screamed, "Grandma, please stop hitting me! I just wanted to kill a chicken to thank Uncle for his hard work."
If you ignore the kitchen knife in her hand, she looks exactly like a frightened girl.
Song Liyun shouted and yelled, waving the kitchen knife in a chaotic mess. Even though Granny Gu was furious, she didn't dare to go closer. She could only raise a stick of firewood and jump up and down, cursing, "You slut, put down the knife, or I'll beat you to death!"
The more she cursed, the more excited Song Liyun became, prompting Granny Gu to bang on the ground with her stick, causing pots and pans to clatter everywhere, leaving the kitchen in a complete mess.
Song Lao Er was in a real headache!
How could things have escalated to this point after just a few words? He yelled a few times to try and stop her, but Granny Gu wouldn't listen and kept chasing after Song Liyun to hit her.
Finally, when only the pot of chicken remained intact in the kitchen, Song Liyun "struggled" to break free from Granny Gu's stick and rushed out the door, hiding behind Song Lao Er.
After some activity, Song Liyun's face turned red, her eyes shone, and she kept muttering, "Second Uncle, save me! Don't let Grandma beat me to death! Second Uncle, you love Yun'er the most. When I marry into the Xue family, I'll take all of the Xue family's money and let you use it."
Silver, silver!
Song Lao Er's drowsy mind suddenly cleared up, and his thoughts raced: Er Ya Tou was saying that if she married into the Xue family, she would not only get fifty taels of silver, but also bring back more money in the future.
He grabbed the firewood stick that Granny Gu was throwing at him and roared, "Mother, what else are you going to do? Er Ya already said that she killed the chicken to thank me for arranging a marriage for her. It's just a chicken, how much is it worth? I'll give you back ten in a couple of days."
Granny Gu already had a sore back and legs from the morning, and the commotion made her even more breathless.
With her hands on her hips, she pointed at Song Liyun, who was hiding, and said fiercely, "I don't care, I don't want money, I just want to beat her to death... She dared to eat... eat my Luhua chicken today, tomorrow... tomorrow she'll dare to climb on the roof and tear off the tiles. I'd rather beat her to death than let her have an easy time."
All the old and new grudges surged into her heart, and Granny Gu was completely unaware of Song Lao Er's darkening face.
Seeing that his mother was still making a fuss regardless of the consequences, Song Lao Er suddenly broke the firewood stick in his hand and smashed it on the ground. He squeezed out a sentence through gritted teeth with a crooked face: "Mother, if you keep making a fuss, don't blame your son for being unfilial."
Song Lao Er was spoiled by her from childhood, and he inherited her bad temper, and would resort to violence at the slightest disagreement.
While he wouldn't beat his mother, smashing dishes and beating his wife were commonplace for him.
He was a heavy drinker and spent a lot of money, and there was never enough money in the house to go around squandering it all.
He could get money by selling his niece now, and if he could build a good relationship with her, he might even be able to come over anytime for a few drinks. He certainly didn't want his mother to ruin his plans.
When Granny Gu saw her son turn against that vile woman, her heart ached as if it were being torn apart. Her whole body ached, and her legs gave way, causing her to collapse to the ground, where she burst into tears, crying out, "Heavens above! Please come and take me away! The son I raised with such care is now disobedient, letting that vile woman bully me. I can't live anymore..."
Having been used to his mother's tantrums since childhood, Song Lao Er was unfazed and ignored her completely. He turned to Song Liyun and forced a bright smile, saying, "My dear niece, your second uncle will remember what you said today! From now on, you'll cover all my food and drink expenses!"
Song Liyun also showed a sincere smile: "Second Uncle, don't worry, your niece keeps her word, and you'll definitely have a hard time with her in the future!"
…………………………………………
On the kang table in the main room, a boiled chicken is placed in the middle, and a plate of fried peanuts and dried sweet potato chunks are the appetizers.
Song Defu sat cross-legged on the kang (a heated brick bed), took a sip of wine, and his already ruddy round face was further flushed with the smell of alcohol.
He looked at Song Liyun, who was engrossed in tearing into a chicken leg, and said, "Second girl, do you keep your word? Or are you just trying to fool your second uncle?"
Song Liyun ate a chicken leg and a peanut, her mouth greasy, and said indistinctly, "Don't worry, Second Uncle. As long as I marry into the Xue family and serve Master Xue so well that he dares not go east or west, and dares not go up the mountain or down the river."
The Xue family has plenty of money; it's no big deal to give you a few taels of silver, Second Uncle.
"As the matriarch of the household, it's only right that I receive half of the family fortune. Master Xue has no choice but to agree."
Song Lao Er beamed with joy and nodded repeatedly: "That's right, Er Yatou is right. You'll be Mrs. Xue as soon as you enter the door. Just slip a few coins between your fingers and give them to your second uncle."
He was still self-aware enough to know that the Xue family was not a charitable organization. On the surface, they were just wealthy landowners, but they kept a lot of street thugs around and did a lot of extortion and blackmail behind the scenes.
