Chapter 490 Visiting Relatives

Winter has passed and spring has come, three seasons have passed, and the Xuyang Grassland is now a battlefield, in complete chaos.

The capital city, with a total population of over 100,000 from four major tribes, fell apart because it became the center of the battle.

Every change of regime is inevitably accompanied by bloodshed and death.

The surviving herders from those tribes fled to the wilderness, while the merchants who did business in the royal city also left as the four tribes fought.

The tranquil Mida River Valley and the vibrant city of Mida became a shining gem in the hearts of the Di people, a sacred place to escape massacres.

They migrated here with their families and livestock, and the valley, stretching for hundreds of miles, was immediately filled with herds of cattle and sheep, even becoming somewhat crowded.

If Mida City hadn't promptly divided up areas for each tribe, disputes would have arisen here as well.

Merchants are the best at identifying risks. After leaving Xuyang Grassland, they came to Mida City to invest and trade.

Now, shops line the small town of Mida, and rooms are hard to find.

Not only are there crowds during the day, but even at night, under the glow of tall lanterns, the crowds are still dense.

The temporary cardboard houses in the city were replaced with sturdy adobe houses, and two-story buildings were built one after another to form streets and alleys.

In front of each small building are newly planted green trees, which have grown to the height of a story in just two years, thanks to someone who takes special care of them.

It is summer now, and the scorching sun shines on Mida City on the grassland. The green leaves generously spread out patches of green, providing shade for the crowded people.

The city lord's wife once said that for every tree that survives, a star and the family name of the owner would be hung at the entrance of the shop.

This star is made of shiny, smooth and delicate "translucent stone". It is said to be fired, and no one can imitate it or buy it.

The only source is the research institute next to the city lord's mansion, where there are many strange and unusual things.

The streets of Mida City are lined with sewers, and the road surface is paved with black gravel.

The days when the gravel was heavy and dust would fly when the wind blew are gone.

The inner and outer city plans originally designed by Song Liyun are beginning to take shape.

The inner city was where the original merchants first came, and it had the best environment and conditions.

The newly relocated businesses are all located in the outer city, forming a neat circle of prefabricated houses.

The outer city was mainly a livestock market, selling live cattle, sheep, horses, as well as wool and fur products.

What intrigues the herders most is that, in addition to selling hay and feed, they also sell a type of salt for livestock.

Under the scorching sun, Wudan, who had grown quite tall, stood on a haystack, holding a blackish-yellow mud brick in his hand. He shouted to the herdsmen surrounding him, "In winter, cattle and sheep will lose weight if there is no grass. We can feed them hay, and this... this is salt for livestock. We won't have to worry about sheep that eat hay becoming weak in the legs."

Salt can indeed be extracted from saline-alkali land, but only a very small amount of that salt is edible; the rest is just mud bricks containing a lot of impurities.

These animals liked to lick them, so Mida collected them and used them along with hay to supply the winter pastures.

Those unfamiliar with these salt bricks whispered amongst themselves, while those who understood their benefits joined in spreading the word, and the murmurs of the crowd were like a gentle, continuous whistling wind.

Wudan was very satisfied with this situation. He liked being surrounded by people and seeing their shocked and surprised faces.

These salt bricks were washed by him and Abu in the White Dead Land of the grassland.

Washing the salt with water... was the young mistress's method.

He was overjoyed to see his research findings accepted by people.

He's been doing this for over two years and still enjoys it immensely.

Three years later, Abu had grown a short beard. He didn't ride a horse; he quickly walked through the crowd to the haystack.

He called out to the tall crow, "Little crow, Xiao An and the others are going to bathe in the river, do you want to go too?"

Wu Dan suddenly turned around: "Brother Abu, Xiao An and Shi Tou are going into the water? Go, why don't you go? I can swim now, watch me swim better than them."

His words drew laughter from the surrounding herders, one of whom shouted, "Young master, you're not even doing business anymore? I was thinking of buying a few salt bricks to take back!"

Wu Dan winked at everyone: "I'm the junior boss, and there's a senior boss too. The junior boss is going swimming with the senior boss!"

He spat out the grass stalks from his mouth, leaped down from the haystack with the agility of a monkey, stuffed the salt bricks he was holding into the helper's arms, and quickly followed Abu toward the river outside the city.

Song Dekui and Song Zhenping, along with their families and Xiao An, came to visit relatives two months ago.

Although Song Liyun returned to Xiaoshi Village once in the past three years, and Song Zhenping also visited Mida City, the three siblings and Sister-in-law Yang Hua have not yet reunited.

With such a sudden increase in population, the City Lord's Mansion has been quite lively these past two months.

Song Zhenping has been married for four years and already has a son and a daughter. Yang Hua's wife has never been pregnant and is now expecting their third child.

Song Zhenping was content, but the thought that his sister had been married for so long and there was still no news of marriage made him so worried that he couldn't sleep or eat.

After discussing it with Yang Hua, they brought Aunt De Kui Xia, who had already given birth to a son, to Mida City to stay for a while and help Song Liyun give birth.

Because I have three little babies to take care of, it's too cold in winter, so I have to put down my work and come back during the summer.

Yanghua brought her sister-in-law a consecrated Buddha statue and some herbal medicine from a doctor, telling her to drink it and pray so she could get pregnant soon.

Song Liyun was both amused and touched by her brother and sister-in-law's feelings.

In the first two years of her relationship with Zhao Tingduo, she thought that since Mida City had just been built, it would be better to have children later.

Seeing that Abu and Wan Youyou got married a year later than her, and that their child was already learning to speak, and that Madam Wuya had given them baby clothes and hats several times, Song Liyun began to worry.
