Chapter 38 Wang's Visit
Having experienced indigestion, Chunxi was more restrained when dining with Old Madam Xiao.
Just after breakfast, a servant came to announce: "Old Madam, Miss Chunxi's mother is here."
Chunxi was not surprised. She sat with her eyes downcast, indifferent to Wang's arrival.
Madam Xiao glanced at her and said solemnly, "Please ask her to come to Songheyuan."
"yes."
As soon as the servant left, Xiao Qingyue came to pay her respects to the old lady.
"I heard that Miss Chunxi comes to dine with Grandmother every day. I'm afraid Grandmother likes her even more than Yue'er."
Xiao Qingyue was obviously very much favored by Old Madam Xiao, and her tone was full of coquettishness.
Old Madam Xiao was amused by her: "What kind of nonsense are you talking about? Doesn't grandma love you enough?"
"Grandma naturally loves Yue'er, and Yue'er loves Grandma the most."
Xiao Qingyue pestered Old Madam Xiao to show off the affection between grandmother and granddaughter, and Wang walked into Songhe Courtyard under the guidance of the servants.
Entering such a noble family's mansion for the first time, Wang took out her best clothes and put on her wedding jewelry. However, after seeing the immense wealth of the Xiao family along the way, Wang's spine had already bent, and she could no longer hide her cowardice and inferiority.
After entering the room, Wang didn't dare to look around. She knelt down with a plop and said, "I, Wang Guiqiu, greet the old lady."
The servant only said that he would take Wang to Old Madam Xiao's courtyard. Wang didn't know Xiao Qingyue was there, nor did she recognize Xiao Qingyue, so she just saluted Old Madam Xiao.
Wang's voice was noticeably trembling.
Seeing her like this, Xiao Qingyue's sense of superiority that had been thwarted by Chunxi before resurfaced.
Chunxi had only gained some experience when he was a servant in the Wei family, but in essence he was no different from the woman in front of him.
Xiao Qingyue immediately went to look at Chunxi, and seemed to find embarrassment and inferiority on Chunxi's face. However, Chunxi just stood quietly beside Old Madam Xiao with his eyes lowered, looking extremely indifferent.
It seemed as if the person kneeling on the ground was not her biological mother, but a stranger she had never met before.
Xiao Qingyue frowned.
Why did this vixen react like this? Did she think that she could become a phoenix by saving her uncle's life and even deny her own biological mother?
Old Madam Xiao did not look down on Wang and gently asked her to stand up.
Wang thanked him and then glanced at Chunxi. Seeing Chunxi's cold expression, Wang's heart tightened and she said flatteringly, "Ah Xi, are you okay? I heard that you and Lord Shen encountered an assassin. Are you injured?"
"My daughter is not injured and has been living well in the Xiao family these days. Don't worry, mother."
Chunxi answered softly, without any resentment in her voice.
Wang felt bitter.
Chunxi changed into fine clothes, put on some jewelry, and her face became visibly rounder. She was obviously living a very good life.
But their family was in great trouble.
When the Liu family came to ask for the person, Wang found out that Chunxi had run away from the marriage, and Master Liu was still missing, and it turned out that Wei Lingze was the one who manipulated everything behind the scenes.
Wei Lingze asked Wang to come to the Xiao family to take Chunxi back, openly continuing the marriage with the Liu family, but actually hiding her as Wei Lingze's concubine.
The truth frightened Wang, but she didn't dare to disobey Wei Lingze.
Yesterday, Wang and the Liu family wanted to go to the Xiao family to find Chunxi, but unexpectedly they ran into the angry wife of the Marquis of Qingyuan. The wife of the Marquis of Qingyuan asked Wang to ask Madam Xiao to marry Chunxi to Shen Qingyuan as his second wife in recognition of Chunxi's life-saving grace to Shen Qingyuan, otherwise the lives of the whole family would be in vain!
Wang had never expected such a situation to happen. She felt like she was being roasted on a fire.
She regretted that she was foolish and greedy for money, and actually knocked Chunxi unconscious and handed her over to Master Liu. She also blamed Chunxi for running around everywhere. If Chunxi had obediently followed Master Liu, there would not be the current trouble.
Wang was filled with mixed emotions, but she didn't dare to show them in front of Old Madam Xiao. She forced herself to say, "I'm relieved that you're doing well, but you're a guest after all. You can't stay at the Xiao family forever. You'd better go home with me."
Wei Lingze's affairs couldn't be discussed here. Wang was hoping Chunxi would come home to find a solution, but the next moment, she heard Chunxi ask, "I escaped without permission. Why didn't anyone from the Liu family come with me?"
Wang suddenly looked up and glared at Chunxi in shock and anger.
Is this damn girl crazy? How dare she talk about running away from marriage?
Chunxi met Wang's gaze without any fear.
After a moment of eye contact, Wang was defeated. Now was not the time to worry about reputation. Solving the problem was the most important thing.
Wang tried to soften her tone, "The Liu family are all reasonable. If you really don't want to, you should come back with me and explain it to them face to face."
As long as Chunxi is willing to go home with her, she can always find a way.
Wang kept giving Chunxi a look, hoping she would stop being so stubborn. The next moment, she heard Chunxi say, "Mother has already drugged me and given me to another man. Now I don't dare believe anything she says. If the Liu family doesn't want to cancel the engagement, then come to the Xiao family and discuss it with me face to face."
Chunxi kept talking one sentence after another, and Wang's eyes became dizzy and she almost couldn't stand.
How could this damn girl say in the Xiao family that her mother drugged her daughter and gave her to another man?
This is too harsh.
Besides, Wei Lingze is behind the Liu family. How could they come to the Xiao family to confront Chunxi?
"Ah Xi, mother is doing this for your own good. Young Master Liu has a wealthy family, and you won't be wronged if you marry him."
Wang struggled to explain herself.
Xiao Qingyue took the opportunity to say, "Marriage is always a matter of parents' orders and matchmakers' words. Since your mother has chosen someone for you, you should just get married with peace of mind. You're running away like this. I think you're thinking about someone you shouldn't be thinking about."
Xiao Qingyue's words were very targeted, and she was obviously alluding to Wei Lingze.
Wang was already feeling guilty, and she felt a chill down her spine when she heard Xiao Qingyue's words.
What does this lady mean?
Could it be that the people in the Xiao family knew that Wei Lingze and Chunxi were still in contact?
If he doesn't continue to play along with the Liu family, he will offend Wei Lingze, but if he stays with Wei Lingze, he will trample on the Xiao family's reputation, and there is also the wife of the Marquis of Qingyuan who is secretly eyeing them. No matter which way he goes, it will be a dead end.
The more Wang thought about it, the more desperate she became. She broke out in a cold sweat. She was about to pretend to faint and find a chance to talk to Chunxi alone when a tall figure suddenly walked in.
Madam Xiao stood up immediately: "Your injury hasn't healed yet, why did you come here if you didn't rest well?"
"I'm fine now, and it's boring staying in the house all day."
Shen Qingyuan replied calmly, and he had already come to Wang: "I asked Miss Chunxi to come with me to the Xiao family. She saved my life. From now on, her affairs are my affairs. If anyone wants to force her, I will never agree."
After recuperating in the Xiao family for a few days, Shen Qingyuan's face had regained its color. His tall figure thrust forward in front of Wang, exerting a strong pressure.
Wang was so frightened that her legs went limp. Then she heard Madam Xiao say, "I know you value this girl. With me here, no one can bully her."
Wang: “…”
Lao Cao, I'd better go with you!
