Chapter 75: Qin Xue's Investigation
Under the dim light, the hospital corridor looked particularly eerie. Qin Xue was wearing dark clothes, holding a key tightly in her hand, her eyes full of determination.
She came to the door of a seemingly abandoned room. The dust and cobwebs here showed that no one had been here for a long time. She took a deep breath and inserted the key in her hand. The door slowly opened, revealing a narrow passage.
Something seemed to be glowing at the end of the passage. Qin Xue walked over carefully and found an ancient safe. She knew that the secret she had been looking for was hidden in this safe.
After many attempts, she finally opened the safe, and inside was a tattered diary and some ancient letters. She began to read, and as the words unfolded, her heart became heavier.
It turns out that this hospital was once a mysterious research facility where they conducted various forbidden experiments in an attempt to explore the mysteries of life. However, the experiments failed, resulting in the deaths of many innocent people. To cover up the incident, the hospital was deliberately burned down, and those who participated in the experiments disappeared into the dust of history.
Qin Xue's hands began to tremble. She couldn't imagine how this place, once full of hope, could have turned into such a hellish scene. Her heart was filled with anger and sadness. She decided to make it all public so that those innocent lives would receive the respect they deserved.
Just then, she heard footsteps and someone was walking in that direction. She quickly put her things away and hid aside.
The man who came was the director of the hospital, his eyes full of fear and despair. Qin Xue saw that he was holding a document in his hand, as if he was looking for something.
The dean walked into the room and looked around, but didn't seem to see Qin Xue. He walked to the safe, opened a document, and began to destroy the contents one by one according to the contents.
Qin Xue's heart was filled with doubts. She didn't understand the dean's purpose. However, she knew that she couldn't let the dean succeed. She decided to stop him.
Just when the dean was about to destroy the last letter, Qin Xue suddenly jumped out and snatched the document from his hand.
"Who are you?!" The dean looked at Qin Xue in horror.
"I'm Qin Xue, and I've been looking for the secret of this hospital. I already know everything, and I won't let you destroy it all." Qin Xue's voice was firm and powerful.
The dean was stunned. He looked at Qin Xue, and a complex emotion flashed in his eyes. Then, he suddenly smiled and said, "Do you really want to know everything?"
Qin Xue nodded, and the dean sighed and began to tell the story...
Chapter 76: Unveiling the Truth
Qin Xue stood in the office forgotten by time, holding the worn diary tightly in her hands, her eyes fixed on the dean. The dean's face was strangely calm, as if he had accepted the impending end.
"The truth behind all this," the dean said slowly, "is far more complicated than you imagine."
Qin Xue gritted her teeth, knowing that what she was about to hear might be the most difficult truth to accept in her life. But she had already gone too far and could not turn back.
"This hospital," the director continued, "began as a medical research facility. We sought to cure diseases thought to be incurable. But over time, our goals became more... daring."
Qin Xue felt a chill run down her spine. She knew that what the dean meant by "bold" was probably far beyond her imagination.
"We began exploring the limits of life, trying to extend human life through various experiments. But the experiments quickly went off the rails and we created something we couldn't control."
Qin Xue's heartbeat quickened. Unable to suppress her curiosity, she asked, "What is it?"
The dean stared at Qin Xue, a trace of pain in his eyes. "They are... monsters. Their bodies have been changed and they are no longer human. We tried to cover it up, but in the end, we failed."
Qin Xue felt her stomach churning. She couldn't imagine how this place, which was once full of hope, could have turned into such a hellish scene.
"Why are you telling me this?" Qin Xue asked in a trembling voice.
The dean sighed, "Because I know that the truth behind all of this will be revealed sooner or later. I hope that there will be at least someone like you who will understand our mistakes, rather than those who only know how to burn and destroy."
Qin Xue was silent for a moment, then slowly nodded. She knew the dean was telling the truth. She decided to make this public so that those innocent lives would receive the respect they deserved.
At this moment, there was a chaotic sound of footsteps outside, and both Qin Xue and the dean felt a surge of nervousness. Qin Xue quickly put away the diary in her hand, ready to face the unknown that was about to come.
The door was pushed open and a group of fully armed policemen rushed in, their guns pointed at Qin Xue and the dean.
"Qin Xue, you are surrounded." a policeman shouted.
Qin Xue's heart sank to the bottom. She knew that her investigation had attracted the attention of the police. But she did not give up. She knew that she could not let all her efforts go to waste.
"You can't do this!" Qin Xue protested loudly, "I know the truth, and I can't let these crimes be covered up!"
The policemen's expressions became complicated, their fingers were tightly on the trigger, but no one fired.
Just then, a familiar figure walked in. It was Qin Xue's lawyer. He was holding a document in his hand and had a victorious smile on his face.
"Qin Xue, you are free." He said softly.
Qin Xue was stunned. She didn't know what was going on. The lawyer handed her a document. She quickly scanned the text, and then a relieved smile appeared on her face.
She looked at the policemen, then at the dean, her eyes filled with determination.
"Did you hear that?" Qin Xue asked loudly, "None of this will be forgotten. We will uncover the truth and ensure justice is served."
The police slowly lowered their guns, complex expressions on their faces. They knew Qin Xue was right.
The dean lowered his head, a look of deep regret on his face. He knew that his crimes would eventually be exposed and he would have to pay the price for them.
Qin Xue stood there, holding the document tightly in her hand, with a determined light in her eyes. She knew that her battle had just begun.
