Chapter 282: Deep into the Swamp
The plan of Aiwas and the other three must not be told to the locals in this village.
Because the "swamp" here is considered a forbidden area in Eagle Point Village. Not everyone, let alone outsiders, even locals, can approach it at any time.
Fortunately, there was a "traitor" among them.
Using the excuse of exploring the past of Aiwass's grandfather Jacob - which was indeed what they were going to do - they ate something early in the morning and left.
They even brought Haena's griffin with them on this trip.
Although Haina was completely unaware of the problem, she trusted Aiwass and Sherlock's brains very much.
Now that they both said that the village held great secrets and unknown risks... Haina chose to trust them without hesitation. In this case, her lovely little griffin Liz could not leave her sight.
With Haina leading the way, they wouldn't get lost. The group headed straight to the swamp.
As Haina described the layout of the village, Aiwas gradually understood its location map.
To either side of Eagle Point Village are two large lakes. The northeastern one is the Sapphire Lake, also known in Bagpipe Town. From the easternmost edge of Eagle Point Village, you can reach it by passing through a dense forest.
The lake on the southwest side is equally beautiful - it is a little closer to Eagle Point Village. To reach this lake, you don't need to go through the dense forest, but a wide downhill road covered with soft grass.
William and his friends usually choose this place when they go fishing. William's lakeside cabin is also next to this lake.
As for the swamp—technically, it was outside the village. It was next to the lake where William was, just south of Eagle Point Village.
If someone could look down at the entire Eagle Point Village from the top, they would see a very complete circle.
Whether it is a lake or a swamp, they are actually outside this circle.
"When I was little I was very naughty...I would run around all over the village."
Haina and the griffin Liz walked in front, expertly navigating the pathless forest. Without even turning back, she replied, "I've heard it's dangerous here since I was a kid. But to an ignorant child, 'danger' is more like encouragement."
"Indeed," Aiwass said softly, nodding slightly. "It represents a certain sense of novelty and also symbolizes a desire for conquest—the possibility that a child can surpass an adult."
Because children know they are children, they want to break free from this identity. They don't really want to grow up, but rather want to break free from the constraints they are under; or exchange their status with the adults who tame them.
"—Although their actions were childish and unreasonable, that was simply due to their lack of knowledge and experience."
Aiwass looked at Haina's back and said softly, "There is no doubt that this is the desire for transcendence in their subconscious."
Haena paused slightly, sighed, and admitted, "Indeed."
Perhaps, I started to awaken from that time...
I really haven't changed much since I was a kid...
The bottom of Haina's pupils were slightly tinged with yellow.
At this moment, a faint white mist suddenly rose around.
Sherlock frowned slightly.
He immediately caught a peculiar, pungent smell of decay—different from the usual swamp smell. It was more like the stench of a fermented corpse that had been dead for many days, mixed with a damp earthy odor.
The soil under my feet turned into mud without me noticing.
When you step on it, transparent and slightly sticky yellow water will seep out.
For some reason, it reminds me of the transparent liquid that oozes out of a wounded and bleeding body.
At this moment, Lily suddenly stepped forward, stretched out her left hand to block Aiwass behind her, and said coldly, "Something is coming."
Aiwass tilted his head slightly and noticed that Lily's face had become focused and cold.
This was an aggression she rarely displayed in front of him. Usually, Lily always smiled so gently, stood quietly behind him with her hands folded, like a shadow.
But now, Lily was like a dagger suddenly drawn from its sheath, shining with a cold and eerie light under the moonlight.
“I have never hated anyone.”
Lily murmured the self-deceiving lie.
Many gray threads suddenly appeared in the air.
Gray threads spread all around like spider webs, weaving between the trees in the dense forest.
The next moment, several headless undead slowly walked over from all directions.
"Second energy level, headless skeleton."
Aiwass's voice rang out: "Do you need me to help?"
Haina's expression suddenly became focused.
She subconsciously tried to draw the blade from her waist, but found nothing. Only then did she realize that her weapon had been given to her brother for maintenance.
But it doesn't matter.
The griffin Liz beside her had already rushed forward.
She took two steps on the ground and then flapped her wings and flew up.
It was more like gliding than flying - she pounced on one of the headless undead, and a hurricane exploded when her front paws touched the opponent, tearing the opponent into pieces cruelly.
That was a completely different feeling from the calm and elegant fighting style of an adult white-feathered griffin.
This was Liz's first time in actual combat, and she overexerted herself. She poured so much mana into her attack that her claws, which could have shredded the opponent, instead became embedded explosives.
The corpse, shattered by the excessive force, instantly exploded like a mine, scattering in a 140-degree radius behind it. The bark was deeply embedded with broken bones.
Lily simply lowered her right hand, which was wrapped with several coils of silk thread, slightly, and then suddenly raised it up.
Those gray wires were like pulleys, quietly extending down from the branches, hanging the undead directly on the trees.
They struggled, but could not break free from the restraints for a while.
Sherlock sighed and held out his hand towards the swamp.
The swamp trembled restlessly as if it had come to life.
Soon, several clumps of mud emerged from it. They cracked like eggshells and transformed into several small monsters.
They were about half a meter tall and resembled some kind of bee or bat.
They have no eyes, but sharp, yellow teeth, their arms are spears like bee stings, and behind them are heavy wings.
After they were summoned, they flew behind Sherlock.
This is the elemental creature Sherlock temporarily summoned, the Mud Eagle.
Since he knew that this place was not safe, Sherlock, as a wizard, had to prepare some means of self-defense.
