Chapter 366 Lost Secret Intelligence
The Moriartys did not employ a live-in gardener, but instead hired a famous gardener to take care of the garden every once in a while.
Juan Sorensen was a professor of biology at the Royal University of Law. He was well-known among the Knights for his beautiful garden and meticulous care for his flowers.
Because of this, his status and income actually increased after his retirement—many people wanted to hire Old Juan to design their gardens, and it became a trend among the elite. But hiring him still required some respect... and Old Moriarty, as a full professor, provided that respect. He was an old friend of Professor Sorensen.
"Did you enjoy your trip, Aiwass?"
Old Juan had watched Aiwass and Edward grow up, so he knew why Aiwass had been away for a while and could call Aiwass and Edward by their names. "You're back just in time—it's rare that Edward didn't go out today."
"Isn't he at work today?" Aiwass stopped and asked carefully.
"Yes, Edward seemed to be entertaining guests. The man was wearing a navy uniform and looked quite young. He should be about the same age as Edward."
The old gardener thought for a moment, then replied, "Maybe he's Edward's friend. I think the young man was very happy to see Edward."
"...It's really rare that big brother actually has friends of the same age."
Aiwass was surprised: "I've never heard of it."
Given Edward's old-fashioned, serious and unsmiling personality, the only reason he could make friends with Sherlock was because Sherlock was also a weirdo.
Edward's appearance was different from that of Aiwass and Yulia. He wasn't handsome by any means, but his features were regular and his appearance was neat and clean. When he was dressed in formal attire, he had the serious and reassuring presence of a conference speaker. But when he changed into civilian clothes and let down his neatly slicked-back hair, he easily blended into the crowd.
He is a person who doesn't like to tell others his thoughts and secrets. Even though he and Sherlock have been friends for many years, he still keeps almost all his secrets from Sherlock.
This is also one of Edward's few advantages in interpersonal communication - at least he is tight-lipped and will never tell others the gossip he hears.
He always had a stern face and rarely responded to other people's jokes or stories, let alone choosing the right time to observe the atmosphere when he should be cheering. He always spoke his mind, and if there was nothing he had to say, he would remain silent.
He was extremely disgusted with those who approached him simply by flattery, and if his disgust reached an extreme, he would even walk away without giving them face. His status as a widower made it difficult for the young women who admired him to approach him, as they had no idea where to start and were having trouble getting close to him.
——As the saying goes, the living cannot defeat the dead.
Because of this, when Edward appeared in a more relaxed social occasion, even the sound of other people chatting and laughing could be suppressed by his presence. Edward soon discovered this, so he simply stopped going.
Music was probably one of Edward's few hobbies, which was one of the reasons why he and Sherlock became friends. However, Sherlock preferred lyrical and melodious music, which could relax his mind; while Edward preferred the solemn, heavy, and tragic style.
But occasionally they attend the same concert.
When Sherlock came back, he was noticeably more relaxed; when Edward came back, he became more silent and depressed.
I feel like if Edward were alive in modern times, he would probably be the kind of loyal user who opens NetEase Cloud Music at midnight on time.
In contrast to his extreme lack of friends, Edward enjoyed a high reputation in the field of work. He was steady, reliable, efficient, meticulous, and always able to keep secrets - which is why he was able to take the position of Chief Inspector of Glass Island at such a young age.
The founding families had little influence in this regard.
After all, the Moriarty family could only have one heir, and the others wouldn't even be able to keep the Moriarty name. Furthermore, they were ultimately just adopted sons with no one to rely on, without the close network of relationships formed by long-term intermarriage and alliances that a normal founding family would have.
Of all the founding families, the position ultimately fell to Edward, a testament to his exceptional personal abilities.
On the other hand, the fact that Edward, who is so young and promising, can't find many friends of the same age outside of work is enough to prove how difficult he is for those who want to approach him.
On the other hand, the elderly had a good relationship with Edward and spoke highly of him. He was a role model for middle-aged and elderly women. His more steady, slow, equal, and relaxed social pace was perfectly suited to the quiet and sensitive Edward.
Aiwass became interested in this "young sailor" and followed Lily to the gate.
Before I knocked, the door opened by itself.
The person who opened the door was Edward's valet. He saw Edwards and Lily coming back through the window and came to open the door.
"Where's Yulia?"
After Aiwass entered the room, he found that Yulia, who was always the first to greet him, was not there. He felt a little strange and uncomfortable.
"Miss Yulia is still studying alchemy in the Temple of Silver and Tin."
The red-haired young man quickly replied, "Mr. Wade and Mary are following. They will be back in the evening. The royal family will send a coachman to take them back... They will not stay overnight in the Palace of Silver and Tin."
Mary is Julia's personal maid, and Old Wade is James's personal butler.
It sounds just like sending a child to a special interest class... except that the destination is the palace, and it seems to be true.
The original elf butler Oswald is still missing, so Wade temporarily replaces him as the butler of the Moriarty family.
"Actually, staying overnight isn't a big deal," Aiwass thought for a moment. "Isabel likes Julia, too. Mr. Wade is getting old, and it's not good for him to travel so far every day...why not let Mary stay with Julia in the Palace of Silver and Tin? I'll just tell Her Majesty the Queen or Isabel later."
White Queen's District wasn't particularly close to Red Queen's District. While the Moriartys had a villa in Red Queen's District that they didn't normally use, Yulia clearly didn't want to live there. And Isabel, on the other hand, was desperate for a playmate.
The Palace of Silver and Tin, which could easily house over twenty members of the royal family, now stood empty. It felt lonely, if not terrifying.
Although Aiwass was a little uncomfortable and lost because she couldn't see her sister who always clung to her, she was still happy that she had found friends and what she wanted to do.
As for Yulia wanting to see Aiwass—it would be better for Aiwass to go to the Temple of Silver and Tin to find them. Aiwass felt a little sorry for Yulia, considering the two-hour commute.
It was just two more trips anyway. He no longer needed a wheelchair, and the carriage wasn't slow. If he was in a hurry, he could borrow a griffin.
When Aiwas entered the room, he saw that the living room was extremely bright.
He was stunned for a moment before he realized... This was the magic painting "Golden Dawn" given to him by Master Janice.
A brilliant golden glow, mingled with the crimson of the rising sun, rose from the center of the sacred golden building, showering the two people conversing in the living room. It was as if time had returned to the moment of sunrise.
The man sitting on the sofa was indeed about the same age as Edward, as Professor Sorensen said.
Hearing someone approaching, he stopped talking nervously.
"You're back."
Edward nodded at Aiwass and smiled rarely.
He looked at the man and said, "That's right, Captain Camus. Aiwass is back. Please repeat your question."
"Anything else for me?"
Aiwass said with interest, leaning against the side of the sofa where Edward was sitting.
He looked at the young navy man named Camus.
Camus had neat short hair and a long, thin face. He had a high nose bridge, prominent cheekbones, and deep eye sockets. His eyes, which should have been bright and lively, now looked extremely haggard.
"It's closely related to you."
Edward turned around and answered seriously, "Do you know anything about the woman named Aleister?"
"……ha?"
Aiwass was stunned for a moment.
He didn't know what to say for a moment.
"Let me tell you, Mr. Minister... You are entitled to know this."
Captain Camus was apparently aware of Aiwass's appointment.
"Because this matter is top secret, involving diplomatic secrets and espionage, theoretically, I can't tell anyone..."
Camus looked at Lily nervously.
Although he knew that there were no secrets between a maid and that if Lily wanted to know, she could ask Aiwass... but from Camus's perspective, he had to prevent any possibility of the secret being leaked. Or rather, any possibility of the secret being leaked from his side.
Lily was also very familiar with this situation.
She nodded slightly and left the living room to chat with Edward's valet.
"Go ahead, Captain."
Aiwass looked at Camus: "What do you want to say?"
“…I lost a letter.”
Camus lowered his head, avoiding Aiwass's sharp gaze: "That is an important piece of information intercepted from Iris——
"According to Iris's spy on Star, Miss Aleister, the royal agent of Avalon... is actually a spy for the Star."
"……ah?"
Aiwass was stunned.
