Chapter 69: A Glimpse Through the Hole

Chapter 69: Reflections on the Release of Chapter 69 - A Glimpse into the Hole

Save traffic: More than 10,000 words will be updated tomorrow and will be on the shelves at 12 noon!

Then as usual - if you're not in a hurry to leave, let's sit down and chat.

I think... reading a new book is like looking at the light through a hole.

In the dark snowy night, the reader approaches houses with lights on and windows covered with paper.

Although I can roughly see the brightness of different houses, I don’t know the structure inside, let alone what the owners are doing.

Only by peeping through the hole in the wall can you see the furnishings in the house; only by turning your head carefully and looking through the narrow hole, taking advantage of the dim light inside, can you see what kind of family this is and why there is light in the house.

When you see clearly and feel relieved, you will knock on the door and push it open to walk in, sharing this rare light on a snowy night.

This light comes from the bottom of my heart and is shared with all those who are willing to share it with me.

It is not a blazing light, unlike the sun that can illuminate everyone; nor is it like the shadowless lamp in the operating room that can illuminate the darkness.

It was just a lantern, a candle, a light bulb, the weak light I could produce, but it was enough to illuminate this small room.

I hope you can see me through this light.

Reporting the results: Mu Xu’s follow-up reading has now exceeded 10,000.

This is without a doubt my highest-scoring history book.

Although my creative achievements are pretty good, I wrote five novels that were put on the shelves before Mu Xu, with a cumulative completed word count of more than 9 million, three of which had tens of thousands of subscriptions and one of which was a top-notch book...but none of these three books with tens of thousands of subscriptions were top-notch books.

Not a single one.

The success was all achieved through the gradual polishing of the subsequent stable plot, and this book is the highest achievement in my history of creation.

It even makes me a little nervous. I don’t know if I can maintain this hard-earned achievement.

But at the same time, I feel proud.

I always adhere to the principle of "If I don't know the underlying plot development, I won't write it, even if it turns out to be interesting." Sudden success, unexplained, would only destroy my own worldview. Therefore, I only write about plots I understand, comprehend, and can replicate.

And in the previous book, the skills honed really do come in handy!

Although some authors would say that they were practicing after their work failed, I had already told everyone before I published The Falling Tower that I would write a book specifically for practice... Mainly because when I was writing about players, I felt that I was lacking in many areas and could not write in many fields.

But at the time, "Player Super Justice" was still being serialized and doing quite well. I didn't dare to do anything fancy for fear of ruining the book. So even if I had a new idea, I didn't dare practice it.

I firmly believe in one truth: if people don’t practice, they will never learn; just as if people don’t experience, they will not understand.

So I wrote down all the plots that I wanted to write but didn't dare to write and that I wasn't sure would be effective, and used them to practice in "The Overturned Tower".

To eliminate distractions, I even chose topics I wasn't an expert in. I simply looked at readers' reactions and comments on different plots, characterizations, and writing styles, and then made corrections.

It’s just like when you play a face-shaping game, you have to make a buzz cut or a bald head first!

The reason I chose science fiction among many themes is my love for science fiction.

——You can still love someone even if you’re not good at it!

I call it "compromise idealism."

While holding on to dreams, still pay attention to improvement and benefits.

Just like in the game, try to maintain strength while taking into account coolness and beauty - not a pure appearance party, nor a pure strength party.

When I first started writing Mercury's Blood, it was all instinct, with no outline or plan. I had so many regrets, "If I had done this then," that I wrote them down, determined to come back and find a place to write them someday.

I rediscovered this once when I was a player, and wrote in a way that was as consistent with the public's aesthetic as possible.

The player's performance is ten times that of Mercury Blood.

But as the player continued writing, he had new regrets. So he made another optimization and the results were increased to four times that of the player.

——As long as people persist in "effective learning" and repeatedly criticize themselves, they will really improve!

...Of course, the corresponding condition is that my health is getting worse and worse.

My sleep schedule has now shifted to going to bed at 10:30 AM and waking up at 5:30 PM. Writing for eight hours a day feels like I'm about to ascend.

The length of this book according to the outline is enough to take two years to write, and it is more than three million words.

I hope people don’t do that.

After I finish this book, I'll take a break for at least six months, and at most a year. I've already booked a room at a friend's villa in Wuzhi Mountain, Hainan. Then I'll go down to the foot of Wuzhi Mountain and become a monkey to recuperate.

This month-long break wasn't enough. Although the outline, setting, and inspiration were almost finalized last October, I spent half of that month recuperating.

Clap your hands, and then it’s time to thank you——

First of all, thank you friends for recommending my chapter. I will treat you to a meal when we meet again!

Secondly, I want to thank my editor, Canaan! Before publishing this book, Canaan went over the settings and outline with me for a long time, which was a great help!

I would also like to thank my incredible operations officer and artist, [There is no food in the jar]!

Can Can is invincible—check out this book and the cover of the previous book, The Overturned Tower, all drawn by Can Can! Even the character designs for this book, as well as the various peripheral designs for this book, were all hand-painted by her!

What kind of god-like operations officer is this? Do you have one? (Loudly)

She held a raffle in the book review section, giving away some free merchandise made from jars! Although authors can't sell merchandise, they can give it away for free if you don't want to pay!

——Of course, I'll cover the postage too! You guys can check it out later!

Next, thank you readers for your tips!

Thanks to Fu Loli Tian Zelu for feeding the Silver Alliance!

Ever since Zeze and I met in Mercury Blood, Zeze has basically fed one to three alliance leaders every month. Over at the Cat Guest next door, Zeze has already accumulated three silver alliances, while players Super Justice and Overturned Tower have both achieved a gold alliance, and the tower also has several silver alliances...

I am really grateful to the beautiful girl Tianze. I feel like I am being kept by her.

Thanks to Yintian Shenyin, Litian X, Mood?? Complex, Ying Niyan, Cosmic Pigeon, Tchaikovsky Tarkovich, Mufengzhige, Vera0205, Ancient Shingen, and Saeki Gayako for feeding the leader!

Thanks to Cang Jing Meng Hai, Dian Si Ji Zi, and Yao Du Ting Ri for feeding us!

Thank you all for your donations, votes and subscriptions!

There's never been such a wonderful start (Giant Geodude clenches his fist)... This sentence doesn't seem very auspicious, so forget it.

Someone once asked me, can you really stick to studying for two hours every day? Or, how do you ensure that you can stick to studying every day?

The answer is simple, and once I tell you, you'll immediately understand the feasibility of this method—it's just that it might not work for everyone.

To put it simply, after I start work (that is, typing) every day, I will immediately put down my work and read.

My intense desire to stop working and escape from work drives me to spend as much time as possible reading. During these times, I escape into a space free from work distractions, feeling completely free and my learning efficiency is incredibly high.

It's like flipping through the textbook to check the answers while doing homework. But the strong desire to not do homework will push you to look at the textbook more and flip through it carefully... Things that you would never look at normally become very sweet under this impulse of escaping reality.

——When I was in school and had to do homework, I would even hold the medicine bottle on the table and look at it for a long time to avoid doing homework, not to mention extracurricular reading!

Facts have proven that people will do anything to slack off.

This book was inspired by a large number of books and a large number of games - cats only do two things at home, either reading or playing games.

I can't even count how many game settings I've slipped into my books, but it's probably quite a lot. My friend Yintian and I are fundamentally different. He finds writing pleasure in itself, and it's something he loves to do. But for me, writing is just a task that comes naturally to me. My ultimate goal is still reading and playing games... Writing books is, in fact, a byproduct of the overflowing inspiration from those hours of reading and playing games.

Anyway, if it looks familiar, it's a tribute! Thanks to all the games I love, including Granblue Fantasy, Final Fantasy, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and Cult Simulator, for providing inspiration!

Finally, let me share my book list. People have asked me about it several times before.

I had been planning on waiting for the right moment to release them all at once – but I was too busy during Chinese New Year and forgot to do so!

Readers who don't care about this can skip this part. The following part is basically irrelevant to the book and is just a knowledge sharing session.

The books listed below have been serialized since "Player Super Justice" in 2019 until now. I have read them all, reread them twice or more, and some of them I have read but not finished the first time. It is a full four years of library!

By looking at these books, you can probably get a feel for the author's personal preferences.

I think this is also a way to enhance mutual understanding.

This isn't just about sharing my favorite books with readers who like them, it's also about sharing useful creative resources and sources with fellow authors. If nothing goes wrong, these books should all be available, but I'm not recommending them. After all, everyone has different areas of expertise, and the books I read are actually quite diverse.

Of course, in order to avoid the suspicion of taking the opportunity to promote books, the online novels that I usually read were not included.

The books here are equally matched. This isn't a recommendation; it's simply books I've read. I'm only giving brief reviews of books I've read repeatedly, and I'm not including books I've read before but haven't read in recent years. I've treated any particularly awkward books as if I've read them, perhaps because they've been cached and deleted in my mind. For the rest, I'll add titles as I remember them, so there may be some omissions.

Finally, I would like to recommend a public account called "Literary Theory and Criticism", where you can occasionally find good books.

Although I don't think many readers will keep turning here, but as usual, I still have to end with that sentence...

Hope we can see you again tomorrow.

——May you always be happy.
