Chapter 534 Goblins and Trolls
Aiwass attached great importance to the information provided by the trolls.
He did not talk to them on the busy street, but instead took these trolls to a more secluded place.
Considering that coffee was basically shipped from the southern continent, Aiwass did not take them to a coffee shop. Instead, he took them to a restaurant run by the Star Antimony people, asked for a private room, and ordered a large amount of roast pork - directly ordered half a pig.
The trolls were clearly flattered by this. Even in the Theocracy, and even among the elves, not everyone had much patience for the trolls, let alone a relatively equal attitude.
"I'm quite familiar with your history."
Facing the young troll priest's stuttering questions, Aiwass calmly replied, "I can trade with you. But it's best not to try to deceive me."
Of course, Aiwass didn't know much about the troll race. After all, the players had never set foot in the southern continent before, and knew nothing about this land where trolls and goblins were born.
He did know the history of the trolls, but only their origins. He knew nothing about their culture, customs, or politics—if troll civilization really had such things.
For example, trolls and goblins are actually species that were born in the same era and in adjacent areas.
These races have the rough, thick skin, protruding ears and hooked noses of rhinoceroses. Although some are extremely tall and have tusks, and some are extremely short and have fine, flat teeth, they are essentially close relatives.
Even their births had the same reason.
That is the "creation" of the Beast Master.
Trolls are a beastly race created by the Beastmaster in imitation of giants, while goblins are a beastly race created by the Beastmaster in imitation of dwarves.
The path of love possesses the power of creation, like a womb nurturing life. Witches create werewolves, moon children create new moon children, and the moon's essence can also create phantom demons known as "monsters." The first fairies were spirits born from mountains, lakes, and forests.
When the Path of Love was still called the Path of Beasts, the Beast Master also possessed this ability.
He had created at least a hundred species of beasts—the first twenty, the product of his meticulous efforts, were called "noble species"; the countless strange and bizarre species in between were called "inferior species"; and the last twenty were simply imitations of existing species. Today, only one in ten of these created species remains, but a few still survive.
——The Southern Continent is the Beast Master’s “petri dish”.
He piled all his creations together. After the forbidden fruit, they completely lost control. After a century of extreme chaos, each occupied a territory.
Because in cold weapon combat between low-level transcendents, physique often plays a decisive role in combat effectiveness. Trolls and goblins are nearly five times taller than humans, making it even less likely for goblins to resist trolls than for humans to resist giants. However, goblins are intelligent, so they were recruited as slaves by the trolls... Today's Troll language and various sacrificial rituals all originated from the creation of the goblins.
Soon, these more clever and cunning goblins learned the art of navigation.
They fled the southern continent controlled by the trolls and spread to various continents. Relying on business, research, stealing, and imitating the skills of other races, the goblins quickly grew and became a race that could not be ignored.
Most importantly, goblins and trolls have one thing in common - their bloodline is highly contagious.
Regardless of their bloodline, gender, or ethnicity, a goblin's child is always a goblin, and a troll's child is always a troll. It often takes eight or nine generations of continuous bloodline infiltration before some of their racial traits gradually fade.
This obvious racial commonality makes the goblins scattered around the world extremely united.
In theory, trolls are an optimized version of giants. The Beastmaster specifically reduced their size and strengthened their vitality to prevent them from competing with each other for food.
However, the optimized troll took a completely different path from the original giant... playing badly.
Because of their powerful physiques, rugged skin, and immense vitality, they can survive even severed heads, can slay any wild animal with their bare hands, are immune to most poisons, and possess a natural mastery of sorcery and curses. Trolls are virtually immune to most diseases, showing no fear of rain, and mosquitoes are unable to penetrate their skin. Yet, such a formidable race lives in large herds.
Such a powerful race could not possibly have any natural enemies in the fertile rainforest.
Because of this, the trolls do not know how to plant, build, or raise livestock, and their only way to obtain meat is to rely on hunters.
Because the tropical rainforest is rich in resources, it is easy to support these trolls. Therefore, over the past thousand years, the trolls have never been extinct in the southern continent, but their civilization has remained in a primitive state.
But the goblins fought back, and with more powerful technological products, trained Tao skills, and accumulated wealth, they ruled the southern continent in turn and became the masters of the trolls.
But the goblins don't have their own country, so their behavior is not uniform... Some goblins will trade with the troll tribes in exchange for fragments of ancient technology, while others will rob or cheat.
The same is true for plantations and troll trade: some trolls were captured by force, some were sold by their own kind, some left voluntarily, and some were deceived. To this day, a few powerful troll tribes still linger in the depths of the southern continent, and are generally hostile to goblin traders.
The trolls who are obviously not slaves but can learn human language can only be the priest class within these troll tribes.
If they could see the wanted poster and the bloody mark of the hunt, it meant that the people trying to hunt Aiwass came from the southern continent - a savage land filled with terrible beasts and even monsters that had not yet been extinct, and inhabited by goblins and trolls.
...It seems that after the Beast Master abandoned the trolls, some trolls turned to Xiong Tiansi?
While waiting for the starving trolls to devour their food, Aiwass held his chin and thought seriously.
That makes sense.
It is not surprising that these races, which lack wisdom and are accustomed to violence, would believe in the Supreme Heaven, which controls the way of power.
After all, even elves would hardly go to the southern continent to preach.
Aiwass even doubted whether the trolls knew that there were nine Pillar Gods in total, and that Ursa Major was no longer the Supreme God...
Soon, the three trolls were full.
——These three strong giants, with an average height of more than two meters and five and bulging muscles all over their bodies, were full after eating only half a pig, even though they had been hungry for who knows how long... The pig was not even that big.
Of course, it's also possible that they're afraid to eat too much in an unfamiliar environment, lest they lose their vigilance. On the other hand, it also shows signs of transformation from the Beastmaster. Compared to giants, trolls require far less food than giants of the same size.
"Can you tell me now?"
Aiwass held the scepter in his right hand and said leisurely, "What do you want me to do? Why does it have to be me?
"—Also, about the wanted order for me. Remember to explain everything clearly."
"We came to the Theocracy to rescue my grandfather."
The tan troll replied, "He's been taken away."
"Your grandfather?"
Aiwass became slightly more interested: "Was it the owner of that shop just now who took him away?"
According to the hereditary nature of the priestly class, his ability to learn human language meant that he was at least one of the high priest's first children. Therefore, his grandfather must also have been a previous high priest.
How could such a powerful transcendent be captured by the goblins?
They just stopped Aiwass in front of the Goblin Shop... Could it be that they have been lingering in front of this shop, and have something to say but are afraid to go in?
"Not goblins. People."
The troll emphasized, "It's... a human."
He gestured, pointing at Aiwass and then at the diners outside.
Then he picked up the stone and spoke intermittently, "This... is also what he gave us. Let us curse you. Just give my grandfather back to me."
"He... didn't keep his promise. He took my grandfather away and brought him to the Theocracy. Someone told me that we were smart and didn't have a curse. My father said... he didn't want it anymore. I said yes, and followed him."
After communicating with him for a while, Aiwass gradually understood.
A powerful man who was well-known among them went deep into the southern continent and captured an old priest. He then gave the blood of Aiwass to other ritualists in their tribe and asked them to curse Aiwass, and then he would return the old man to them.
But these trolls weren't completely stupid—especially the priests, whose ability to speak multiple languages showed they had some brains. His father didn't dare to mess with the human and didn't plan to bring him back, but he was determined to rescue his grandfather, so he stowed away on a freighter and swam over when the ship was almost there.
They had originally planned to rescue the man themselves, but the three trolls were young. Having arrived in the Theocracy, they couldn't speak to the locals, couldn't understand the landmarks, and had no idea where the man was. So they decided to hunt Aiwass... Since Aiwass was the man's enemy, it meant he might know where he was.
Aiwass's evaluation is: He has some brains, but not completely, but still some.
"...Could it be the remnants of the Noble Red?"
Aiwas narrowed his eyes and murmured softly, "Humans...humans who serve Xiong Tiansi?"
In the eyes of giants, humans are food.
Does that bear really have human believers...
I fell and sprained my left arm today, and my typing speed dropped sharply... I observed it for most of the day, and there is no swelling or pain, just a bit of weakness and a little powerlessness. I think there is no fracture, so I won't go to the hospital for now.
There’s still one chapter left, meow, but it’ll probably be evening…around nine o’clock!
