Chapter 22 Chapter 22 What’s wrong? Does it hurt?

22. Tent

The weather was gloomy, and without checking my phone, I couldn't tell the time. The wind on the island was strong and cold. Jiang Nian retreated into the tent and asked Lu Zhao to come sit inside.

Lu Zhao cooperated and moved inside, supporting his injured hand wrapped in a handkerchief on the moisture-proof mat in the tent.

Jiang Nian looked down, a flicker of regret crossing his face. After leaving the banquet hall, he was busy looking for Jiang Hao and Shen Rong, and later collecting supplies and setting up tents, so much so that he had forgotten about Lu Zhao's injury.

Jiang Nian blamed himself for being too careless. He quickly found a band-aid and iodine from the emergency kit and said to Lu Zhao, "I'll take care of your wound."

Lu Zhao really didn't take this minor injury seriously and wanted to say no, but seeing Jiang Nian's worried expression, as if he was very important to him, Lu Zhao changed his mind, untied the handkerchief, and handed over his hand.

Lu Zhao was wrapped up casually, and the blood dyed the handkerchief and his wrapped fingers red. And perhaps because of the force he had just used when setting up the tent, the wound was still bleeding, which looked a bit scary.

Jiang Nian looked at the wound, his brows knitted tighter. He held the cotton swab and said, "Just bear with it."

Lu Zhao: "Okay."

The distance was so close that Lu Zhao could see Jiang Nian's delicate skin texture and the distinct long, thick black eyelashes. Lu Zhao's eyes swept over Jiang Nian's high nose bridge, and then down to her pale, but very soft lips.

They were staying in the tent at the moment, and because of the noise outside, no one noticed them.

A semi-private space, the person he likes, and such a close distance... It seems to be a good place for something to happen, or perhaps, to trigger some charming thoughts in his mind, but Jiang Nian's expression is too serious, so serious that Lu Zhao feels that it would be a defilement to Jiang Nian if he had even a little bit of such thoughts.

He just looked at Jiang Nian, his eyes so soft that it seemed as if water could drip out of them.

Jiang Nian's movements were somewhat clumsy, clearly not something he did often. He spent some time cleaning the blood from Lu Zhao's hand, disinfecting the wound, and then firmly applying the bandage to the base of Lu Zhao's left ring finger.

This location...

Lu Zhao's eyebrows moved slightly, and a sense of joy inexplicably rose in his heart.

After treating the wound, Jiang Nian retreated and sat down. Seeing Lu Zhao staring at the wound, he asked, "What's wrong? Does it hurt?"

"No." Lu Zhao retracted his gaze from the base of his finger and said with a smile, "Thank you."

Jiang Nian shook his head, threw the garbage into a plastic bag, tied it up, and prepared to throw it away sometime. He suddenly thought of something and looked up again, only to find Lu Zhao looking at him with an indescribably strange look in his eyes.

It's so gentle. It doesn't feel like I'm looking at a friend.

Jiang Nian hastily looked away, suddenly forgetting what he wanted to say.

Lu Zhao asked softly, "What's wrong?"

After several seconds, Jiang Nian said, "...Don't let the wound come into contact with water."

Lu Zhao nodded and said he knew.

The tent fell silent, and Jiang Nian could feel Lu Zhao's gaze still on him. He felt a little flustered, not daring to look up. All he could think about was the look Lu Zhao had given him when he had just inadvertently raised his eyes.

Why was Lu Zhao looking at him like that? And why was his heart beating so fast, just like when he was in danger in the banquet hall? His cheeks seemed to be a little hot.

Jiang Nian tried to find a topic several times, but his mind was a mess. He was obviously a good chatterbox, and he could never be bored with anyone, but now the atmosphere was weird.

His heart pounding, Jiang Nian thought for a moment, finally deciding he was seeing things. Perhaps he was too tired today, and the sudden change in weather made him suspect he was ill. He couldn't help but raise his hand to touch his forehead.

Seeing Jiang Nian's actions, Lu Zhao stopped smiling and his expression turned serious. He asked in a deep voice, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Jiang Nian said hurriedly: "No..."

Lu Zhao's hand was already on his forehead. Jiang Nian's body was stiff, his eyes fixed on Lu Zhao's face without blinking.

Lu Zhao was relieved when he saw that Jiang Nian did not have a fever. He asked Jiang Nian to have a good rest.

Jiang Nian noticed that Lu Zhao looked at him with pure worry, just like usual. He blinked and breathed a sigh of relief. He had indeed been mistaken.

Jiang Nian's heartbeat slowly calmed down, and then a strange sense of shame surged up. It was the first time he realized how narcissistic he was.

That’s Lu Zhao, a gifted child of heaven who is so outstanding. What is he thinking? Is he crazy?

Sure enough, he was exhausted today.

Lu Zhao turned his head and glanced outside the tent. Seeing Jiang Hao coming towards him, he said to Jiang Nian, "Your brother is back. I'll be leaving first."

Jiang Nian nodded, then remembered something and called Lu Zhao again.

He looked into Lu Zhao's eyes and said seriously, "During that snowball fight, I told you that you were my lifelong brother. Now I know that was nothing. This time, we are truly friends for life and death. If you need me in the future, just tell me. As long as I can do it, I will do it."

Lu Zhao's eyes were dark, tightly enveloping Jiang Nian. He raised the corner of his lips and said, "Okay, I'll remember that."
