Chapter 14 They are in cahoots with each other
"What are you doing?" Su Wanwan's voice trembled and her face looked frightened.
"Everything is just as Miss Su saw. I killed someone." Pei Changfeng did not deny it. He knew that Su Wanwan saw everything, so it would be meaningless even if he denied it.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Su Wanwan forced herself to cheer up. "You just drove Uncle Pei away, and you didn't kill anyone."
She came over with limp legs, "Look, your sleeves are all covered in blood, take them off quickly so I can wash them for you."
Pei Changfeng's eyes fell on her still trembling body, "No, I killed someone."
At this time, the sky was already bright, and a hint of paleness was rolling in the sky.
Su Wanwan glared at him and said, "I'm your wife, how could I not know whether you killed anyone or not?"
She reached out and hit Pei Changfeng on the arm, not too hard. "Don't try to scare me with these words. I haven't settled the score with you for not saving my life. How could you let that woman cover me up? Do you know how smelly that towel is?"
After saying that, she pushed Pei Changfeng into the house, "Go in quickly, I'll clean it up."
Pei Changfeng was unable to say anything by her and was almost half pushed and half pulled into the house by Su Wanwan.
He sat on a chair, watching Su Wanwan shoveling the dirt and scrubbing the floor, his eyes dark and unclear.
Su Wanwan was very panicked.
When she woke up, she smelled a strong smell of blood, but the room was clean without a trace of blood. She walked out of the room and saw Pei Changfeng cutting the flesh off Uncle Pei's leg.
She felt a little nauseous, but she didn't dare show any abnormality, for fear of being discovered by Pei Changfeng.
After Su Wanwan finished scrubbing the floor, she washed her face with clean water and tried to calm herself down. She and Pei Changfeng were now husband and wife, and they would prosper together and suffer together. No matter what, Pei Changfeng did not kill anyone, otherwise he would be finished if he was discovered.
She pinched herself hard, this time she really had to follow her husband wherever he went.
The village chief's voice rang out, and Su Wanwan was startled. She opened the door nervously, "Village chief, what can I do for you?"
The village chief looked a little anxious, "Changfeng killed someone..."
Su Wanwan's body swayed, and the village chief quickly supported her, "Su girl, are you feeling unwell?"
Su Wanwan gritted her teeth and said, "Changfeng didn't kill anyone, we don't admit it! This is a frame-up!"
"Who said Changfeng killed someone?" The village chief was surprised. "How could he kill someone while lying in bed?"
"And what are you talking about?"
"It's his uncle who's gone crazy. He keeps mumbling that Changfeng has killed someone," the village chief said anxiously. "How could such a good person go crazy? I don't know where Changfeng's aunt has gone. It's so frustrating!"
"Crazy?" Su Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief. He was crazy, so crazy, so crazy.
She wiped the sweat off her forehead and put on an anxious look, "Why is he crazy? Is uncle okay now? Come on, village chief, take me to see him!"
Su Wanwan followed the village chief to Uncle Pei's house, only to see that Uncle Pei's pants were wet and he was huddled in the corner of the chicken coop. He looked very crazy and was talking nonsense, saying that Pei Changfeng's father was not a good guy and that Pei Changfeng was a beast.
Pei Yaozu had gone to some place and had not returned home yet. Uncle Pei's mother was also missing. The village chief sighed, "He got old, but ended up like this. Alas."
Su Wanwan wiped away the non-existent tears and said, "Alas, who said it wasn't true?"
After making sure that Uncle Pei was crazy and no one took his words seriously, Su Wanwan went back.
Pei Changfeng was watering the vegetables in the vegetable garden. The hem of his clothes was stained with wet soil. He used a simple wooden hairpin to hold up his hair, and in his hand he held a wooden stick that Su Wanwan had picked up from somewhere.
Although the dress is sloppy, it has a certain style.
Su Wanwan learned the word "style" from her father Su, and she felt that it was very suitable for Pei Changfeng.
Hearing her footsteps, Pei Changfeng looked over, his eyes were as calm as an ancient well, with clear black and white.
"Husband," Su Wanwan was a little timid, trying to make her smile natural, "Uncle is crazy, no one will believe a madman, don't be afraid, I will hold up the sky for you if it falls."
Pei Changfeng could clearly see the fear in Su Wanwan's eyes, "Miss Su, this matter has nothing to do with you."
"I don't understand what you mean by related or not," Su Wanwan clenched her fists. "Anyway, we are husband and wife, and neither of us can abandon the other. If you become rich in the future, you must never abandon me, your wife who has endured the hardships of life. Otherwise, I will not let you go even if I become a ghost!"
Pei Changfeng sneered and continued to look at the vegetables in the field.
As if they were well cared for, the vegetables in the vegetable garden grew exceptionally well and lushly.
Su Wanwan didn't know what she was thinking, "Aunt Pei..."
Pei Changfeng tapped the ground with the cane in his hand.
Su Wanwan's face turned pale. How did Pei Changfeng manage to bury a person in a vegetable field and then restore him to his original state? And this was when his body had not yet fully recovered.
She didn't dare to ask more and changed the subject, "What do you want to eat for breakfast? I'll go cook."
"All is fine." Pei Changfeng slowly walked out of the vegetable garden.
Su Wanwan's body swayed again. She didn't dare to stay in the vegetable garden for long, so she ran away rubbing her arms.
Su Wanwan was absent-minded during her breakfast. To be honest, she had sincerely wanted to spend her whole life with Pei Changfeng before, but now she was hesitant.
Forget it, I haven't done anything wrong to him, he can't do anything to me.
Su Wanwan encouraged herself, don't be afraid, she is at least Pei Changfeng's half savior now, and also his wife, not some random person that Pei Changfeng would be reluctant to part with.
But is he really reluctant?
Pei Yaozu arrived just as the meal was finished.
He had just returned from a leisurely trip in town. He had obviously been crying and looked particularly embarrassed. "Pei Changfeng, come out here! What did you do to my father? Come out!"
He kicked the gate open. Su Wanwan was startled and her hand shook, spilling the hot porridge on the back of her hand, causing an immediate red and swollen area.
As soon as Pei Yaozu entered the room, he saw Pei Changfeng sitting upright on the bed. He was furious and grabbed Pei Changfeng by the collar, saying, "What did you do to my father? Tell me! Tell me!"
The village chief and others who arrived worked together to pull Pei Yaozu away and subdue him. When they saw Pei Changfeng wake up, they were all shocked and confused for a moment.
Pei Changfeng woke up? Could it be that what Uncle Pei said was true?
"Changfeng, when did you wake up?" The village chief looked solemn.
"Last night," Pei Changfeng replied calmly, "but what happened?"
"Your uncle is crazy, did you know that?"
"I heard it from Wanwan." Pei Changfeng's expression did not show any concern, as if he was just talking about a stranger.
Pei Daniu was a little uncomfortable, "Pei Xiucai, after all, your uncle has raised you for so long, and you don't care at all when your uncle goes crazy? What's more, your uncle said that you killed someone, what do you have to say?"
"Murder," Pei Changfeng gently shook his head at Su Wanwan, "I am powerless now, how can I kill someone?"
His face was as pale as gold paper, his lips were bloodless, and his body was haggard. He certainly didn't look like someone who could kill someone.
The village chief frowned. It would be better if this matter could be resolved within the village. If it spread outside the village, it would be bad for the reputation of their village. Moreover, Pei Changfeng could still take the imperial examination in the future. If he was wrongly accused and his reputation was tarnished even though it was not his fault, it would be a loss.
Seeing the village chief's thoughts, Pei Yaozu gritted his teeth and said, "It's him! No one else can drive my father crazy. He must have killed my mother. I want to report to the police, I want to report to the police!"
"Okay," Pei Changfeng laughed sarcastically, "report to the police."
Su Wanwan's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly scolded Pei Yaozu, "You said it was my husband who did it? I think your family is malicious and deliberately wants to slander my husband. You can't bear to see us live a good life, you did it on purpose!"
After saying that, Su Wanwan leaned on Pei Changfeng's shoulder and cried, "Wuwuwu, my husband, you have such a hard life. You finally woke up and were splashed with such a big bucket of dirty water. They are all targeting you. If anything happens to you, I will not live either!"
She was really scared, and her tears wet Pei Changfeng's shoulders.
Pei Changfeng patted her on the back and said to Pei Yaozu, "Everything requires evidence. Do you have evidence that I killed my aunt and drove my uncle crazy?"
Pei Yaozu regretted it after he said he would report it to the police. If the government really came to investigate, his family would be in trouble.
But this was revenge for the murder of his mother, Pei Yaozu could not bear it, he roared: "Then why did my father go crazy? How did you suddenly wake up? Who else could it be besides you?"
Gradually, people gathered in Pei's yard. When they saw that it was Pei Changfeng's family again, they all sighed.
The village chief stroked his beard and stood up and said, "Everything requires evidence. Besides, your father Yaozu is not in his right mind right now, so you can't trust everything he says."
"Village head, you just saw Pei Changfeng as a scholar, didn't you?" Pei Yaozu mocked, "My father was like that, would he lie? And my mother did disappear, Pei Changfeng must have killed my mother and hid her body."
Every time he said something, Su Wanwan would bury herself in Pei Changfeng's arms and tremble. She was really scared.
Pei Changfeng hid the body in the vegetable field, and the body could be seen as soon as he turned over. What should he do? Should he pay for his murder? Su Wanwan was shaking like a sieve.
How could she be so stupid? She not only brushed the blood off the ground, but she should also smooth out the soil in the vegetable patch.
That wasn't right. In broad daylight, what else could she do except bury the body deeper?
Sensing her fear, Pei Changfeng gently patted her shoulder, signaling her to be at ease.
"In that case," the village chief said, his face not looking good, "then search it."
After he finished speaking, the men from every household went home to get their shovels and hoes, as if they were going to turn Pei Changfeng's house upside down.
Pei Yaozu rummaged around the house like a madman, searching even the closet and under the bed.
After a while, all the people who had gone back to get their stuff came back. Pei's house was not big at all. One team was rummaging in the yard, one team was digging in the chicken coop, and another team went to the vegetable garden.
After a while, a man came running over and said, "Village chief, the soil in the vegetable field has been turned over!"
Su Wanwan felt a chill in her heart and thought to herself that it was over.
