Chapter 17 He suddenly felt indebted
Zhou Chanyue was really scared. She was still unmarried, so how could she let her reputation be ruined? In desperation, she had to frame Wu Sanniang.
Wu Sanniang's eyes suddenly widened. Being pointed at by her own daughter, she suddenly became the target of public criticism. Her face turned red and she didn't know how to scold her because she was her own daughter. At least there were people on the street who knew her. It would be too embarrassing to be seen by the mother and daughter scolding each other.
Wu Sanniang still had some dignity to look at, and gritted her teeth and said, "What the hell are you pointing at, you little bitch?"
Zhou Chanyue was really panicked. He was counting on Wu Sanniang to help him get rid of the accusation of crying thief. So he just lowered his head and cried without saying a word, trying to get away with it.
The stall owner had been wasting so much time that he became impatient and asked his wife to search Wu Sanniang's body. Sure enough, the stolen bracelet was found.
"What bad luck! You wasted so much of my time," the vendor boss spat at Wu Sanniang fiercely. He didn't pursue the matter further for fear of delaying business. "Next time I catch you, be careful!"
Wu Sanniang didn't care about anything and was about to leave by grabbing Zhou Chanyue, but was stopped.
Su Wanwan looked at them unhappily, "Why do I want to leave just because I'm wrongly accused?"
"Then what do you want to do?" Wu Sanniang's face turned dark.
"Pay me compensation!" Su Wanwan stretched out her hand. "You and your daughter were the ones who wronged me first. Even if you take me to the government, I am right!"
When they heard that these two people were mother and daughter, everyone around them widened their eyes. Could it be that these mother and daughter deliberately staged such a drama to frame someone?
Zhou Chanyue pulled Wu Sanniang's sleeve, her face getting redder and redder, "Mom, pay me back quickly."
"I am unlucky to meet you." Wu Sanniang took out a few copper coins from her bosom and threw them on the ground, then pulled Zhou Chanyue away.
Su Wanwan didn't care. She picked up the coins that were floating on the ground and counted them. There were twelve of them.
After buying the walking stick for Pei Changfeng, she still had three cents left.
Su Wanwan weighed the newly bought walking stick in her hand and liked it very much. She stopped shopping and took the ox cart at the entrance of the town back to the village.
After returning home, Wu Sanniang twisted Zhou Chanyue's ears with all her might, "How could I have given birth to such a bastard like you, you stupid idiot with water in your brain."
Zhou Chanyue was pinched so hard that she kept crying, "Mom, please stop pinching my ears. They are going to fall off! I'm not married yet. If someone recognizes me, how can I marry a rich young man? Mom, can't you think about me?"
To be fair, Zhou Chanyue was indeed good-looking, and Wu Sanniang had always planned to marry her daughter off to a wealthy man.
Hearing this, Wu Sanniang twisted her arm hard again before letting go. Still not satisfied, she hit Zhou Chanyue's arm several more times.
Zhou Chanyue dodged, "My queen, don't you want your cousin's monthly subsidy? I have a way."
"Stop giving me bad advice!" Wu Sanniang didn't want to listen.
Zhou Chanyue said, "I heard something happened to Uncle Pei's family."
"What happened?"
After hearing that Uncle Pei's wife had run away and Uncle Pei had gone crazy, Wu Sanniang felt something was wrong. "Is that all you've heard?"
Zhou Chanyue concealed the fact that Pei Changfeng had woken up, lest Wu Sanniang would beat her again, thinking that she had not given up yet, "Yes, mother, think about it, Uncle Pei's family is in such a state now, and we are the only ones who can take care of cousin. As long as we find a way to get Su Wanwan away, won't cousin be under our care?"
"That makes sense," Wu Sanniang nodded, "but she's so fierce. I've never seen a woman like her in my entire life. How can I get rid of her?"
Zhou Chanyue's eyes rolled around. "Su Wanwan and my cousin shouldn't have been included in the family tree when they got married. If they're not included in the family tree, they're not considered members of the Pei family. Now we're the only ones who can take care of my cousin. If we tell the government about this..."
Hearing the word "government", Wu Sanniang shuddered, remembering that she had done it secretly that night, and it was impossible for others to know. She calmed down and said, "That makes sense. We will go there tomorrow. Su Wanwan is a nameless woman, why would she stay in someone else's house and not leave."
The ox cart was shaking, and Su Wanwan dozed off twice before reaching the entrance of the village.
When the villagers saw her coming back with lots of bags, they thought she had bought all these good things to take care of Uncle Pei, and they exclaimed, "This child is so filial."
Su Wanwan rolled her eyes at him when she heard that and left without saying anything. How could she use the word filial piety when she made delicious food for her husband?
She returned home happily, and as soon as she opened the door, she saw Pei Changfeng sitting under the eaves, as if waiting for her.
"Husband!" Su Wanwan put the frame down and ran over, "Husband, are you waiting for me?"
There was a layer of sweat on her forehead. Pei Changfeng handed her a towel and said, "Wipe it off."
The cloth towel had been soaked in cold water in advance, and Su Wanwan didn't feel so hot after wiping her face.
She took the cane out of the backpack and hid it mysteriously behind her back, "Husband, guess what I bought for you."
Pei Changfeng had seen the cane sticking out of the backpack when she entered the door. Seeing Su Wanwan's expectant eyes, Pei Changfeng guessed, "Is it a mung bean cake? Or a glutinous rice cake?"
These two are the pastries that Su Wanwan had said she wanted to eat before.
Su Wanwan was amused by him and laughed, "You guessed wrong!"
She took out the cane like she was offering a treasure, "Look, my dear, this is a cane. You used that stick as a cane and it hurt your hand. You won't be afraid if you use this one in the future."
Pei Changfeng narrowed his eyes and took the cane, "Thank you, Miss Su."
This walking stick is polished very smoothly and has no splinters, so it won't hurt your hands.
Pei Changfeng watched her take out the things in the basket one by one. There were chickens, ducks, meat, and his medicine, but nothing belonged to her.
"I'll kill the chicken tomorrow and make soup for my husband. It's too hot to keep it for too long. Hmm... Let's finish the meat first and make meatballs or dumplings tonight. Why is it so hot today?"
"Didn't you buy the mung bean cake?"
"Hmm?" Su Wanwan pursed her lips and smiled, "It's too hot now. I don't want to eat those. They taste greasy."
"Oh, by the way," Su Wanwan took out the rice candy that was placed on her chest, "Husband, please eat it! This rice candy is crispy and fragrant, so delicious!"
The rice candy was wrapped in her handkerchief, a small piece with a peanut inside, covered with syrup. It looked very greasy and was not something Pei Changfeng liked to eat.
He took the rice candy, and under Su Wanwan's expectant gaze, he gently broke off a small piece and put it in his mouth, "It's delicious."
Su Wanwan couldn't help drooling at the aroma of the rice candy, "Then my husband, eat it all quickly. I'll go make some bread and dumplings."
As soon as she took a step out, her sleeve was grabbed. Pei Changfeng handed her the remaining large piece of rice candy and said, "I'm not hungry. You can eat it."
"How can you not be hungry?" Su Wanwan didn't believe it, and thought Pei Changfeng gave it to her on purpose. "I'm not greedy, and I don't like to eat this. You eat it!"
"I warmed up a bowl of egg custard for myself this morning and I finished it," Pei Changfeng rewrapped the rice candy, "I'm really not hungry, and the rice candy is hard to digest. I'm afraid my stomach will feel uncomfortable if I eat too much."
"I didn't think it through," Su Wanwan took the rice candy, her eyes brightened, "My husband, you just took a bite, does your stomach hurt now?"
"It doesn't hurt," Pei Changfeng stood up with the newly bought crutches, "The crutches are very useful, thank you for your trouble."
"As long as you like it!"
Su Wanwan happily went to the kitchen to knead the dough. While the dough was rising, she sat where Pei Changfeng had just sat and ate rice candy. Anyone could see that she liked these foods.
Pei Changfeng put his medicine into the cabinet. Su Wanwan was willing to buy him medicine at three cents per dose, but she was reluctant to sell him mung bean cake at ten cents per bag.
He suddenly felt indebted.
Su Wanwan felt bored in the kitchen, so she moved the table to the yard to roll out dough. In the afternoon, the sun hid in the clouds, so it was still hot, but not too sunny.
While rolling out the dough, the voice of Widow Liu came from outside the door.
Su Wanwan wiped her hands and went to open the door, only to see Widow Liu holding a big watermelon and standing outside holding Su Chaochao's hand, "My girl, are you making dumplings? Put them down quickly, come here, mother!"
Su Wanwan glanced at Su Chaochao, who was frightened like a quail, and stepped aside to let the two of them enter the house.
Widow Liu saw Pei Changfeng sweeping the floor, her eyes suddenly lit up, and she said to her son, "Chao Chao, come on, that's your brother-in-law, go and call him."
Su Chaochao walked over, looking back every few steps, her eyes suddenly reddened, "Sister, brother-in-law."
Su Wanwan took a look and ignored it. She guessed what the mother and son were here for. But after all, Su Chaochao was her younger brother and had been obedient to her since childhood. She wouldn't be so stingy.
Pei Changfeng smiled gently, "Chao Chao, mother-in-law, please take a seat."
Widow Liu waved her hands repeatedly but did not dare to rest. She first broke the watermelon, leaving the sweetest piece for Su Wanwan, then cut it into pieces and put them on a plate for Pei Changfeng to eat, and then went to make dumplings.
Su Chaochao sniffed and secretly looked at her new brother-in-law, feeling extremely scared.
The new brother-in-law is so good-looking, I guess I can’t spank him like my sister does…
