Chapter 24 Liver and Kidney Protection Soup
Widow Liu left not long after she stayed. Su Wanwan still felt a little uncomfortable when she saw Pei Changfeng, so she went to the vegetable garden where Uncle Pei's wife used to work and picked a melon, intending to visit Uncle Pei on the way.
During this period of time, Pei Changfeng delivered meals to her every day, but she never visited him once.
As soon as she entered Uncle Pei's house, she smelled a strange smell, as if something had gone bad.
Su Wanwan wrinkled her nose and waved her hand, "What's that smell?"
The yard of Uncle Pei's house was just as dirty as it was when she married Pei Changfeng's family. Su Wanwan looked at the chicken shit all over the floor with disdain, but still couldn't go in, so she simply went home.
Pei Changfeng was washing clothes. Ever since he was able to move, he didn't want Su Wanwan to wash his clothes anymore.
Seeing Su Wanwan coming back with a big melon, Pei Changfeng scooped two buckets of water into the basin and said, "Come and wash it."
Su Wanwan snorted softly and squatted down to wash the melons. She rolled up some of her sleeves, revealing her arms were blindingly white. Pei Changfeng stood up to hang the clothes without looking at her.
"Don't call me stepmother-in-law anymore."
"Then what are you shouting?" Pei Changfeng asked.
"Call her Aunt Liu?" Su Wanwan felt something was wrong. "Call her Sister Liu? That doesn't seem right either."
Pei Changfeng shook his head, took a kitchen knife, cut the melon into small pieces and put them on a plate for Su Wanwan to eat.
Su Wanwan was biting the melon, but she couldn't think of a suitable name for it, so she simply stopped thinking about it and stared at the hens in the chicken coop laying eggs. Somehow she remembered the chicken shit all over the floor of Uncle Pei's house, and she suddenly lost the appetite to continue eating. She felt a little disgusted.
"What's wrong?" Pei Changfeng looked at her with a broom in his hand, "Is the melon not sweet?"
"Sweet," Su Wanwan told him what happened just now and patted her chest, "Luckily I clean it up every day, otherwise it would be this dirty too."
She glanced at Pei Changfeng proudly, as if waiting for praise.
Pei Changfeng smiled and said, "Yes, luckily you are diligent."
After saying that, Pei Changfeng continued sweeping the floor.
Su Wanwan sat on the chair and looked at the yard. She always felt it was empty. After a while, she looked at the roof. She remembered that there was a hole in the roof. She would have to repair it after the hot weather was over, otherwise it would be troublesome when it rained.
She walked around the yard and remembered something, "Husband, do you think my uncle is really crazy or just pretending to be crazy?"
"Maybe it's true," Pei Changfeng answered without even looking up, "but it doesn't matter whether it's true or not."
Su Wanwan rested her head on the back of the chair and said, "Ouch!" "Look at my head. Two days ago, I asked Aunt Li to bring me two pieces of cloth when she went to town. Aunt Li should be back this morning. I have to go get the cloth. It would be a shame to ask someone to bring it to me."
As soon as she left, Widow Liu came back carrying something.
Today is not the time for Su Chaochao to give a lecture, and Su Wanwan is not here either. Pei Changfeng opens the gate and then entertains Widow Liu.
Widow Liu couldn't tell him directly, so she smiled awkwardly and said, "I brought some food with me. I'll ask Wanwan to make some soup for you when the time comes."
Pei Changfeng took a look. The basket was covered with coarse cloth, so he couldn't see what was inside, but he could smell a fishy smell.
"Thank you, mother-in-law," Pei Changfeng poured tea for Widow Liu, "Please have some tea, mother-in-law."
Widow Liu saw that he was sweating from weakness, so she kindly reminded him, "You should sit down and take a rest. How are you these days? You must not do any physical work. It's best to move less, rest when you need to, eat and drink when you need to, so that your body can be well maintained."
She felt that she had said it very clearly, but Pei Changfeng seemed not to understand. "Mother-in-law is right, but the housework is complicated, and it would be too tiring for Wanwan to do it alone. It is my responsibility to help share the burden."
Was she talking about housework? Widow Liu smiled with a fake smile and went back to drinking tea.
Su Wanwan came back with two pieces of cloth, one green and one blue. Widow Liu knew at first glance that they were not what she usually wore.
"Wanwan, didn't you buy one for yourself?"
"I have so many clothes that I can't wear them all. My husband's clothes are all torn. I just need to make him two sets."
Widow Liu felt unhappy. When this girl was at home, she had to make new clothes every month. Thinking back to the time when Father Su gave the family two taels of silver a month, he would spend five or six cents just on this girl.
"You still have a drawer of jewelry at home. Do you want me to bring it to you tomorrow?"
"Give it here," Su Wanwan wiped her sweat, "By the way, why are you here again today?"
"I'm bringing you some food, aren't I?" Widow Liu felt really distressed. When Su Wanwan was at home, she had never done these chores before. Her father couldn't even bear to sweep the floor.
Pei Changfeng, who was standing by, heard that Su Wanwan had another drawer of jewelry, and his eyes couldn't help but fall on the silver hairpin that Mu Chen gave her, which was pinned on her head. After a while, he lowered his eyes again.
"What did you bring?"
Su Wanwan followed Widow Liu to the kitchen. As soon as the cloth was removed, she immediately covered her nose and asked, "Why did you bring these things?"
"This is good stuff," Widow Liu lowered her voice, "Your father often asked me to cook it for him. Don't worry, I will teach you how to cook it so that Changfeng will not have any fishy smell when eating it. This stuff... is good for your health."
Su Wanwan was a little skeptical, but didn't say anything. As long as it was good for her health...it was Pei Changfeng who was going to eat it, not her.
I have to say that Widow Liu is quite good at cooking. When the soup was served on the table, Pei Changfeng couldn't recognize what it was.
Widow Liu had already taught Su Wanwan how to behave, so she didn't stay long. She left after the two of them started eating.
Pei Changfeng took a bite of the meat in the soup and frowned slightly, "What kind of meat is this?"
Su Wanwan's eyes wandered, "Pork, eat it quickly, it won't taste good if it gets cold."
Pei Changfeng frowned and drank the whole bowl of soup, "This soup... tastes very strange."
"Well...it's good for your health, just bear with it."
Until bedtime, Pei Changfeng was still curious, "Wanwan, what kind of soup did you drink today?"
"Black bean, pork kidney and pig penis soup." Su Wanwan said softly.
"What?" Pei Changfeng was stunned.
"Black bean, pork kidney and pig penis soup..." Su Wanwan's voice was even lower.
Pei Changfeng: “…”
He closed his eyes and remained silent for a long time. "Don't make this kind of soup for me again in the future."
"But it's good for your health." Su Wanwan explained.
Pei Changfeng took a deep breath and said, "Thank you very much, but it's not necessary."
"Okay." Su Wanwan admitted that she would not want to drink it even if she was asked to.
Zhou family.
Wu Sanniang was lying on the bed screaming, and it was obvious that she was breathing out more than breathing in.
Zhou Chanyue fed her the medicine tremblingly, with two slap marks on her face.
Wu Sanniang was beaten with thirty boards and locked up in jail for a day. Her whole body was covered with skin. She became furious when she saw Zhou Chanyue. She wished she could strangle this evil creature to death and pretend that she had never given birth to her.
"Mom!" Zhou Chanyue cried, "Su Wanwan is so cunning. She must have deceived the officials together with the villagers."
Wu Sanniang spat at her with blood foaming on her face, "You even lied to your own mother!"
"I didn't lie to you, mother!" Zhou Chanyue cried again, "I meant well but ended up doing something bad. I was thinking that when I become an official's wife in the future, you will be able to be proud of me, too."
Wu Sanniang's bottom was beaten to pieces, and she didn't want to listen to this bastard. "Go ahead and dream about your life, you're not going to make it!"
Zhou Chanyue was so anxious that she covered her mouth, "Mom, how can you say that? What if I really can't be the boss in the future?"
Wu Sanniang was too tired to speak. "You are not as good as your brother. I have asked someone to calculate your brother's fortune. Your brother is destined to be a high official, but you are not!"
Zhou Chanyue put down the medicine bowl and stopped serving. She covered her face and started crying, "You just blame my father for running off with another woman after giving birth to me. He doesn't want you anymore and despises you, so you take your anger out on me. I did it on purpose! My brother is good. Then you see if my brother has served you for a day. Wasn't it me who served you when you were sick?"
Wu Sanniang's butt hurt even more after being poked in the heart. "You damn girl, come here and see if I will beat you to death!"
What she hated most in her life was that her man ran away with someone else. As her mother, how could Wu Sanniang not know what kind of person Zhou Chanyue was?
Wu Sanniang was so angry that she couldn't hit anyone. Finally, she stopped trying and waved her hand, "Go and tell your brother tomorrow to come back quickly. If he doesn't come back, Pei Changfeng will be in big trouble."
