Qi Jingyan and Qiu Xia obtained their marriage certificate as scheduled and held a wedding banquet in the presence of their relatives, friends and comrades.
Although it was both of them getting married for the second time, Qi Jingyan was very clear about the respect he should give to Qiu Xia, and it was even no worse than the respect given to most first marriages.
In the evening, after all the guests who had come to the bridal chamber had left, Qiu Xia prepared to sweep up the melon seed shells, candy wrappers, etc. on the ground.
Qi Jingyan grabbed the broom from her hand and said, "It's too late today, go to bed early. I'll clean up tomorrow."
"Then I'll make you some water to wash your face."
"I've already mixed it, you go and wash it first!" Qi Jingyan put the broom aside and turned off the lights in the living room.
Qiu Xia looked towards Mumu's room. "Is Mumu asleep? Why don't we let him sleep with us?"
Qi Jingyan laughed helplessly: "What nonsense are you talking about? How can we let him sleep with us tonight? Besides, he is already five years old, he should sleep on his own."
Qiu Xia bit her lower lip nervously. Although she had been married once, her previous marriage experience was not very pleasant, and she was instinctively a little scared.
The two returned to the bedroom. Seeing that she was very nervous, Qi Jingyan pulled her to sit on the edge of the bed and poured her a glass of water.
"Actually, there's something I should have told you a long time ago, but I never had the right opportunity before."
"What's the matter?" Qiu Xia asked.
Qi Jingyan said calmly, "It's Mumu's life story."
"Mumu?"
"Actually, Mumu is not my child."
Qiu Xia was surprised, "That Mumu..."
"Mumu is the child of my eldest brother and his wife. They were both military doctors. They both died during a rescue mission when Mumu was only three months old."
Qiu Xia gasped. She didn't expect that Mumu was not Qi Jingyan's biological son, and he lost his parents at such a young age.
"Didn't you have been married before? Why did you break up later?" She felt a little regretful after asking this question. She felt uncomfortable talking about his ex-wife on the wedding night.
Qi Jingyan thought of his ex-wife and his eyes dimmed. He had been dating someone before he sent Mumu to live under his name.
The other party was a music teacher with a gentle personality and pretty appearance. The two confirmed their relationship after meeting several times.
Later, when his eldest brother and sister-in-law got into trouble, Qi Jingyan told the girl that he decided to adopt Mumu, and he asked her if she was willing to accept the child.
If the girl didn't want to, he would let her go and wish her to find happiness elsewhere, but he didn't expect that the girl would agree to take care of Mumu with him without much thought.
So the two got married soon after, but less than three months after the marriage, Qi Jingyan found that something was wrong with Mumu. The weight of the almost ten-month-old child had hardly changed from when he was half a year old, and he would cry whenever he was hugged, and he would cry endlessly.
Later, when he was sent to the hospital for examination, it was discovered that Mumu had many needle holes on his body and was severely malnourished.
There was nothing Qi Jingyan didn't understand. This was all the work of his ex-wife.
She sent the milk powder for Mumu back to her nephew from her mother's family and only fed Mumu rice porridge.
After the matter was exposed, Qi Jingyan asked her why she did this.
She said she was unwilling to raise someone else's child, saying that no matter how well someone else's child was raised, it was still someone else's child. She didn't want Mumu to share her child's future resources, so she wanted Mumu to die of illness, and then have her own child with Qi Jingyan.
But she knew very well that Mumu's parents received a considerable pension after their sacrifice, and the money Mumu spent was all his parents' pension. How could he take away her child's resources?
Qi Jingyan didn't even get angry, nor did he blame her. He divorced her calmly.
He could understand her feelings of not wanting to raise a child for someone else, so before they got married, he asked her if she was willing to accept Mumu.
But she said she would!
