Chapter 1267 Going Back on One's Promises

The guard grumbled in dissatisfaction, "Alright, alright, he's such a busybody. If you ask me, we should just kill this woman. 'Those who are not of our kind are bound to have different intentions.' What's the point of keeping her alive?"

The Ghost Doctor sighed softly, "What can we do if our lord wants us to stay?"

After he finished speaking, the person waiting outside did not reply.

The Ghost Doctor walked to Xu Yuehuai's side and carefully examined her wound. He gently peeled off the bandage, revealing a deep wound that exposed the bone.

Xu Yuehuai couldn't help but gasp, feeling a sharp pain coming from her wound.

However, the Ghost Doctor seemed oblivious to her pain and continued to carefully examine the wound.

"Your wound has been carefully bandaged," the Ghost Doctor suddenly said.

Xu Yuehuai asked in surprise, "How is this possible?" She had no idea when her wound had been bandaged.

The Ghost Doctor pondered for a moment, "It seems someone is secretly helping you."

His eyes gleamed with a probing light, as if he were trying to find the mysterious person hiding in the shadows.

"I will find out who it is." Xu Yuehuai was extremely calm. Whether the person was good or bad, she was prepared to face them.

The Ghost Doctor gently patted Xu Yuehuai's shoulder and whispered, "I can't stay any longer. I've left you some medicine; you must take it on time. I have to go now. I'll come back to discuss it with you later tonight when no one's around." His voice was full of concern and reluctance.

"Okay, you should also pay more attention to your own safety." Xu Yuehuai looked at the Ghost Doctor gratefully. Without the Ghost Doctor's help, she probably wouldn't have been able to stay here.

That evening, the Ghost Doctor arrived as promised. He brought some rare medicinal herbs and simple food, and tiptoed into the room where Xu Yuehuai was being held.

In the dim light, Xu Yuehuai's complexion had regained some color, but the tenacity and determination in her eyes remained undiminished.

"Ghost Doctor, you've arrived." Xu Yuehuai's voice was still somewhat weak.

The Ghost Doctor nodded slightly, put the medicine and food aside, and began to examine Xu Yuehuai's injuries.

“Your injuries have almost healed, but it will take time for your internal energy to recover,” the Ghost Doctor said, taking out a small porcelain bottle from his robes. “This is a specially made internal energy pill. Take one every day to help you recover your internal energy.”

Xu Yuehuai accepted the porcelain bottle, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She knew she could never repay this debt of gratitude. But she also understood that she couldn't rely on the Ghost Doctor forever; she still needed to deal with the masked man herself.

She took out an internal energy pill and swallowed it, instantly feeling her meridians become clearer.

“But I still have poison in my body,” Xu Yuehuai said, distressed.

A hint of regret flashed in the Ghost Doctor's eyes, and he sighed softly: "I have no way to cure this poison for the time being, I can only use acupuncture to suppress it for you."

He took out silver needles and skillfully inserted them into Xu Yuehuai's body. Each needle was precise and powerful, as if he were battling against death.

"Thank you for risking your life to help me," Xu Yuehuai said gratefully.

The Ghost Doctor smiled slightly, a bitter smile in his eyes: "It's nothing, I just hope we can really leave this dilapidated temple safely."

The two exchanged a smile; in that moment, all difficulties seemed insignificant. They began to plan their escape, using the intricate terrain of the ancient temple to shake off their enemies.

On a dark and windy night, the Ghost Doctor reappeared before Xu Yuehuai. He led Xu Yuehuai out of the window, and the two of them, like ghosts in the night, silently retreated along the predetermined route.

However, just as they were about to successfully escape, a commotion suddenly broke out from the back mountain.

The masked man appeared before them with a group of his men, instantly blocking their escape route.

"Xu Yuehuai, have you had enough fun?" The masked man's voice was as cold as ice.

The Ghost Doctor's expression changed, a hint of panic flashing in his eyes: "Damn! I didn't expect you to have been playing along all along."

The masked man sneered, "Do you really think you can get in touch with her without my permission?" His gaze swept over the two of them, full of provocation and mockery.

Xu Yuehuai stood in front of the Ghost Doctor, saying, "You go first, I can't drag you down with me."

The Ghost Doctor wanted to retort, but was stopped by Xu Yuehuai's resolute gaze. He knew that Xu Yuehuai had already prepared for the worst.

"Trying to leave? Not so easy." At the masked man's command, his black-robed henchmen immediately pounced on the Ghost Doctor.

Xu Yuehua wanted to help, but unfortunately she had no weapon. When she tried to use her fists and feet, she was immediately attacked and forced to retreat. She had no way to get close to the enemies.

Because the Ghost Doctor was lurking here and had no weapons, he was constantly being suppressed by these guys.

But while he was fending off the attacks, he was also looking for an opportunity to break through.

However, the masked man appeared behind him like a ghost and knocked him to the ground with a single blow.

"Take him down!" the masked man ordered, and his black-robed subordinates immediately bound the Ghost Doctor.

Seeing this, Xu Yuehuai felt as if her heart was being torn apart. She struggled to rush over, but was stopped by the masked man's men.

“Now we can talk about the terms.” The masked man walked up to Xu Yuehuai with a smug smile on his face.

Xu Yuehuai glared at him through gritted teeth: "I never expected you to be such a despicable and shameless person."

The masked man smiled dismissively: "Likewise."

"You just want that map fragment, right? I can give it to you, but you have to release him first," Xu Yuehuai said coldly.

A sly glint flashed in the masked man's eyes: "Hand over the goods, and I'll release the person. No discussion."

Xu Yuehuai took a deep breath; she knew this was her only bargaining chip. She slowly pulled a concealed cloth pouch from her chest, inside which lay the precious map fragment. She clutched the pouch tightly, as if it were her only hope.

"Here you go." Xu Yuehuai tossed the cloth bag to the masked man.

The masked man took the cloth bag, opened it, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. He waved his hand, signaling his men to release the Ghost Doctor.

The Ghost Doctor struggled to his feet, his eyes filled with gratitude and guilt.

However, at that moment, the masked man's expression suddenly changed. He abruptly waved his hand, and his black-robed subordinates immediately pounced on Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor. It turned out he had no intention of letting them go!

Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor were both startled; they hadn't expected the masked man to be so cunning. The two stood back-to-back, facing the surging tide of enemies.

"Kill!" The masked man gave the order, and his black-robed henchmen charged at the two like mad dogs.

Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor fought hard against the enemy's attacks, but their strength was gradually being exhausted.

Just then, the rapid sound of hooves rang out. A cavalry unit suddenly charged from behind, scattering the black-robed men. It turned out that Xu Yuehuai's reinforcements had arrived!
