As the officials drew closer, Xu Yuehuai felt as if they were right beside him.
However, she was seriously injured and could not even open her eyelids, so she was completely unable to move.
"Everyone, take a good look around. Is anyone still alive?"
"We must make sure everyone is dead, otherwise what we've done will definitely be discovered by others, and then none of us will survive."
"Okay, we'll definitely finish them off and make sure no one here can get out."
Then, the officers used their broadswords to stab the other corpses around them.
They would stab each corpse seven or eight times until they were sure the person was truly dead before leaving.
When they arrived at Xu Yuehuai's side, they saw that she had been surrounded and attacked by so many people, and they assumed that she must be dead. In addition, there were three or four corpses lying on top of Xu Yuehuai, which pressed her down completely.
When the officials finished off Xu Yuehuai's corpse, they stabbed him more than a dozen times. Xu Yuehuai was not seriously injured below, but he was still stabbed from the chest to the shoulder.
Xu Yuehuai was already covered in wounds and was enduring immense pain. Her nerves were so numb that she could barely feel the pain anymore.
Now, after being stabbed again, I only felt some pain at the very beginning, but after gritting my teeth and persevering, the pain seemed to lessen.
She didn't know if she could survive. She had suffered so many injuries and was bleeding profusely. Even if she wasn't killed by these people, she estimated that she would bleed to death.
Xu Yuehuai persisted stubbornly and did not give up.
If you don't even believe you can survive, then you really won't have a way out.
Xu Yuehuai held her breath. Even though those people were walking around in front of her, and all around her were the sounds of stabbing and the screams of those who were not dead, she still managed not to make a sound.
If a sound is made at this moment, it will truly mean certain death.
Xu Yuehuai was on edge, waiting for the group of demons to leave.
But after they finished off the dead bodies, they confirmed that everyone around them was dead. However, they were not completely at ease. Instead, they carried some dry trees around and piled the corpses together. Then they set the trees on fire, trying to destroy all the evidence.
It hadn't rained for the past few days, and the surrounding trees were all withered. The climate was also particularly dry. Now that the trees were being burned, the flames suddenly surged and engulfed the entire area, leaving no way for anything to survive.
Xu Yuehuai only smelled a particularly pungent odor, and then thick smoke rushed into her nostrils. She felt an urge to sneeze because of the smoke, but the demons were still around, so she could only bite her tongue to keep from making any sound.
Her tongue was bitten raw, and her mouth was filled with a strong, metallic taste of blood. She felt extremely disgusted, but to save her life, she could only control herself and lie still on the spot.
“These people should all be dead. You stay here and guard them until the flames have completely burned them before you leave.”
"The rest of you come with me to the temporary refugee camp and take care of all the remaining people."
"And those people in that pit from before, we must make sure they are all dead."
After those people left, only one person remained, watching the flames burn.
Xu Yuehuai was buried among a pile of corpses, and at first the flames did not burn her body.
As the flames grew stronger, Xu Yuehuai felt her body getting hotter and hotter, as if she were being steamed in a steamer. She felt like she was about to be cooked, and sweat was pouring down her body. She dared not make a sound.
Now that she was surrounded by flames, Xu Yuehuai was unable to move. Even if she regained some strength, she wouldn't be able to escape from such a huge fire.
She heard a series of crackling sounds around her, including the sound of burning dry wood and the sizzling sound of the corpses on her body being roasted.
Hearing those sounds filled Xu Yuehuai with immense fear, but now that she was facing death herself, she was able to resist that fear.
But thinking that she would die in the same way, and perhaps even worse than these people, that she might be burned alive, would be terrible.
She was only hoping that a heavy rain would fall now, perhaps extinguishing the surrounding fires and giving her a chance to survive.
Xu Yuehuai initially only thought this to herself, but then, she suddenly heard a loud clap of thunder in the sky.
As the thunder grew louder, raindrops actually began to fall.
Suddenly, large raindrops began to fall from the sky, landing on the bonfires.
However, at first, these fires were not affected and continued to burn.
But as the rain intensified, some of the surrounding fires finally went out.
As the fire gradually died down, Xu Yuehuai felt that the temperature was much better than before, and her body was no longer so hot. She breathed a sigh of relief and felt that she might still have a chance to live.
The official who was originally guarding the area saw that the corpses around him had been burned to a crisp. Now that he was standing in the rain with nothing to shelter from it, he quickly ran to the side to take shelter from the rain.
As long as there are no more moving corpses around, it's safe to say that all of these people are dead.
Xu Yuehuai, lying beneath a pile of charred corpses, felt rainwater flowing onto her body. Her mouth was wide open, and she didn't care about the dirt or grime; all she wanted was to survive.
So she swallowed the raindrops, even though they smelled disgustingly burnt, she drank them all.
Xu Yuehuai heard sounds of fighting coming from the temporary refugee camp.
When she told those people to escape before, they wouldn't listen to her at all. Now that they're in this situation, most of them are probably going to die here.
Xu Yuehuai is now on her last breath and can only mourn for them; she can do nothing else.
