Xu Yuehuai drew a short sword from her waist, her eyes firm and sharp.
The giant python seemed enraged by their courage and lunged at them. Its tail swept across the ground like an iron rod, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Qi Guze swiftly leaped to the side, simultaneously striking the python's head with his soft sword. Xu Yuehuai seized the opportunity to thrust his short sword into the python's belly, the blade instantly piercing through its scales.
The python roared in pain, and the entire valley seemed to tremble. It suddenly swung its head, flinging Xu Yuehuai toward a nearby boulder.
Xu Yuehuai groaned, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. But there was no fear in her eyes; instead, her fighting spirit ignited even stronger. She endured the pain, stood up, and charged at the python once more.
At this moment, Qi Guze had also adjusted his posture and was fighting alongside Xu Yuehuai. The two cooperated perfectly, one attacking and the other defending, engaging in a life-or-death struggle with the giant python.
Their every attack was precise and powerful, as if they had an inextricable bond with the python. The python, in turn, displayed its ferocity and cunning, sometimes coiling its massive body around them, sometimes lunging at them with its gaping maw.
After a fierce battle, the giant python finally gave out and was killed by Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai.
The valley returned to tranquility, with only the sound of the breeze rustling through the leaves and the distant singing of birds.
The two men sat exhausted on the ground, panting heavily, but victorious smiles on their faces. In this battle, they not only successfully gathered the herbs, but also demonstrated the courage and wisdom of humankind in its struggle against nature.
Qi Guze's resolve to leave this valley only strengthened. He vowed that one day he would successfully bring Xu Yuehuai back to the capital.
"Alright, we've finished picking the herbs. Let's go back and give them to the white-haired youth right away." Xu Yuehuai wrapped the herbs tightly in a cloth and put them in her arms.
Qi Guze immediately helped Xu Yuehuai up and helped her to the thatched hut, and they slowly made their way back.
Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze walked cautiously, surrounded by darkness, with only the occasional howl of wolves in the distance, which sent chills down their spines.
"Aze, do you think we've taken the wrong road?" Xu Yuehuai asked somewhat anxiously.
"I'm not sure either, but the young man in white shouldn't harm us, right?" Qi Guze said, frowning.
Qi Guze sensed that the route they were taking seemed to be the usual route taken by these ferocious beasts. However, this route was given to them by the young man in white. The young man in white had saved them before, so why was he sending them to such a dangerous place again? Was it to train them?
As they were talking, a series of low growls suddenly came from the woods ahead, and then several gray figures darted out of the woods and surrounded them.
"It's a wolf!" Xu Yuehuai exclaimed, pulling Qi Guze backward.
However, the wolves did not pounce immediately. Instead, they stood still, their eyes gleaming with a ghostly green light, as if waiting for something.
Qi Guze's heart sank. He sensed that the wolves were testing them, and that they would be attacked by the pack as soon as they made a mistake.
"Yuehuai, run!" Qi Guze suddenly said, and at the same time, he swung his soft sword, sending a sword aura hurtling towards the wolf pack.
Xu Yuehuai was stunned for a moment and didn't react immediately, but Qi Guze's actions made him understand instantly. He pushed Xu Yuehuai hard and shouted, "Run!"
Xu Yuehuai instantly understood. He pushed off the ground with all his might, and his body flew out instantly. Behind him, the wolf pack had already launched an attack.
A ruthless glint flashed in Qi Guze's eyes. He swung his soft sword again, this time targeting the lead wolf. The sword energy instantly sent the wolf flying.
However, this was only a brief respite. More wolves had already surrounded them. Qi Guze took a deep breath. He knew he had to hold on.
Xu Yuehuai had already run quite far, but he was still worried about Qi Guze. He kept looking back and saw a faint green light shining in the distant woods, the signal of the wolf pack.
"Qi Guze!" Xu Yuehuai's heart tightened. She knew that if anything happened to Qi Guze, she would never forgive herself.
So she immediately turned around and ran back. At this moment, Qi Guze was already surrounded by the wolves. He kept swinging his soft sword, and with each whistling sword aura, a wolf would be knocked away.
However, there were too many wolves, and Qi Guze knew that he would eventually run out of energy if things continued like this.
Xu Yuehuai rushed into the woods and was immediately surrounded by a pack of wolves. However, Xu Yuehuai was not afraid; her eyes were fixed on only one figure—Qi Guze!
She swung the dagger in her hand with great force, each attack precise and accurate, and soon several wolves fell at her feet.
Qi Guze also saw Xu Yuehuai's return and was immediately filled with emotion, but he also felt particularly sorry for her and worried that something might happen to her.
The two stood back to back, fighting off the wolf pack's attack together.
The wind howled and the clouds surged, as if the wolf pack had been provoked, their growls growing even louder. In this critical moment, Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze both knew they had to find a way to escape as quickly as possible.
"Aze, run!" Xu Yuehua shouted again, and at the same time, she swung the dagger in her hand with all her might, forcing back several wolves.
However, Qi Guze did not retreat. He pressed down hard on Xu Yuehuai's back and said in a deep voice, "Don't talk nonsense. We will be together through life and death!"
Xu Yuehua felt a warmth in her heart; she knew Qi Guze was speaking from the heart. Their hearts were connected; no matter what danger they faced, they would face it together.
The wolves' attacks grew increasingly fierce, but Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze's teamwork became more and more seamless. They used the trees and thorns in the forest to constantly block and counterattack the wolves' attacks.
Suddenly, a melodious flute tune drifted over, and the wolf pack seemed to be controlled, instantly ceasing their attack.
They growled a few times, then turned and ran into the depths of the woods.
Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze were both stunned. They never expected that someone would come to their rescue at this critical moment.
A young man dressed in flowing white robes emerged from the depths of the woods, holding a jade-green bamboo flute in his hand. A faint smile graced his face, and his eyes seemed to hold boundless wisdom.
"You're finally back," the young man in white said with a smile. "I've been waiting for you here for a long time."
Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze exchanged a glance, both filled with doubt. They hadn't expected that he would have been waiting here all along.
"Thank you for saving my life, senior." Qi Guze immediately stepped forward, cupped his hands in greeting, and said.
The young man in white shook his head and smiled, "Alright, time is of the essence, let's hurry back."
